    Summary

The son of a foreman bricklayer from Montgomeryshire, Evans' was signed by Wrexham from junior football. In his first season he helped the reserves to the championship and the St Martin's Cup and moving to the first team he helped them become champions of the Combination. This exposure brought international caps and although unknown in England he was already a legend in Wales when he signed for the Rovers. He was everything the Rovers required in a goalkeeper, agile and courageous to the point of stupidity but two problems dogged his career. He had a suspect knee which sometimes let him down and there was another goalkeeper named, McIver, who doggedly refused to give best and sometimes unseated him. Eventually the club got tired of switching from one to the other and let both men move. A spell at Croydon did not suit Evans but Coventry was much closer to his Wrexham home and he gave them excellent service. The war affected him badly and he was hospitalised with shell shock. A fine cricketer he played for Huntroyde CC near his home and sometimes turned out for Flintshire. His brother Peter Caradoc Evans played for Plymouth Argyle and the Welsh amateur team.
