    Summary

By the time that he was  signed Bogan had lost the characteristic speed and nimbleness that marked his best football. At his most effective during the war years even they were blighted by a broken leg, received after 90 seconds of a war time international against England. A persistent knee injury marred his first spell south of the border, with Preston, but he recovered at Old Trafford. By the time he came to Ewood he was working as a linotype operator on the compositors' room at The Guardian and Manchester Evening News and he was to spend most of the remainder of his working life there. He died of a heart attack whilst enjoying a game of golf at Wilmslow.
