  1. Most frustrating game in a while that i can remember. Battered them in 2nd half and got done with a complete sucker punch which you just knew would happen. Rothwell looked class again when he came on. I really think we look a better side with him on the pitch. I thought Palmer also did well. Nyambe run riot down the right and our centre halves won everything but the header that cost us the goal. Armstrong is really finding his feet on the left, se great first touches and unlucky not to score. Disappointed with the result but gopd to see us fight back. 2 points dropped.
  2. This is the typical sort of game that we would expect Rovers to win but will struggle and come away with a point. Being defensive against this lot isn't the answer this time, get at them, put them to the sword and lay down a marker to the rest of the league. I think Evans being out will work in iur favour as it may encourage us to play more expansive football. Get Joe Rothwell in there.
  3. If only it was that simple. Thinking about it, isn't that what TM is attempting to do? Players good enough for them prem usually come with a cost and big wages. If there is some good talent knocking about in the lower leagues then clubs like ours have to take a chance in that market. Look at Andre Gray, Jamie Vardy, many players from the Bournemouth squad. I think once you're up there then you can afford to use the promotion funds to spend on Prem standard players but whilst you're in this league you have to buy accordingly.
  4. Gallagher and Reed would be great for us... With Dack atttacting so much attention we might do worse than getting those 2 plus cash for him.
  5. Unfortunately Reed isn't ours and the way Southampton are at the moment he could be on first train home. He'd be a massive signing for us, arguably the biggest signing we could make since TM took over. I never forsee us playing badly with him in the side just because he sets such a high standard to the rest to raise their game. I think we all just hope he loves it enough to want to stay here but he's an ambitious lad and will want to make a name for himself at Southampton.
  6. Start of the season when fixture list was released i couldn't see us winning many. Now though, we have strength in depth and a decent amount of points on the board without particularly playing that well. We are very diffucult side to beat and that will take you far in this league. I've seen many teams and not one of them has particularly stood out to me. I can see maybe Derby, Norwich, WBA, Aston Villa and Leeds being up there leaving at least one play off spot looking well up for grabs. I don't think this being our first season back should make a difference, we have some good players now and with a bit of luck on our side we could have easily been top of the league. I don't expect us to reach the playoffs but it's certainly a realistic goal for these players in my view, we have quality, grit, determination, leaders and players who hate to get beat. The teams that get out of this league merely take every game as it comes and i think the lack of expectation of our club could play into our hands. There are bigger clubs carrying the weight of expectation into every game, we just turn up every game without burden and give teams a real hard game. 8th without playing well? I'd say that's a team capable of a playoff push. To summarise my thoughts... I expect mid table but we can very realistically have a good playoff push.
  7. Excellent result, crap game. It doesn't take a genius to workout the correlation between us playing well with Rothwell in midfield and poorly without him in there. Williams was outstanding at centre half, looked the real deal there and Lennihan was also class. Other than that no one particularly played well. 3 points is the main thing but that centre midfield pairing needs to be broken up because we won't keep getting results like that with those 2 in there, too similar, too slow, too predictable and we just constantly miss out the midfield and go long because there is no creativity in midfield... Meaning we never really dominate possession. Good result, on to the next one.
  8. Yeah i remember him being almost forgotten about... Unfortunately i think BB has cost us about x7 times more than MGP!
  9. He might need to start a game to do that... ?
  10. Well i did hear that he's straight outa compton...
  11. Got to watch out for Eze tomorrow, decent player.
  12. He can play with two feet but is a pretty big and robust type of player. Rothwell can turn on a six pence, has great ability to pass and move into space in tight areas. Moves the ball around really well. Personally i see him as the sort of player you build a midfield around as we should have done with Cairney. To waste him out wide would be a great shame, coincidentally, something that Bowyer did with Cairney. Some of our best football this season has been when he has made a start, he allows us to play through the midfield instead of missing it out. Against Sheff UTD we were constantly going long to Graham, we looked far too predictable, lost the midfield battle and ultimately lost the game. Against Bolton first half and at times against WBA we looked far more dangerous when our defenders could pick their heads up and find Rothwell and Palmer, rather than just putting their foot through it. It makes us look better than just another championship side but one capable of actually doing something in this league.
  13. I know TM has clear expectations of his players but i think there needs to be someone who's more technically gifted in there. We always seem to be closing down and chasing without dictating play. Tugay's defensive game was pretty much non existant but he could help us get our foot on the ball and make the other team work. Joe Rothwell might not be the best defensively but he's technically the best midfielder we have, if the defensive side of his game was as good as the rest then he'd still be at Man UTD playing first team football already.
  14. I'd probably be more open to giving Fisher a game in goal than Leutwiller. Give him some valuable first team experience and get him pushing Raya.
  15. Wanna see pretty much the same side against WBA but with Conway benched, DG up front and Nyambe at right back. Nyambe is undropable this season so far IMV.
  16. I think it's harsh to presume his end product is lacking, considering he's only had 4 starts and sometimes played holding midfield. He was unlucky not to have got the goal against Bolton. Should have buried the one st the wekend though.
  17. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/17186899.rovers-boss-will-keep-making-tough-calls-with-team-selection/?ref=mac Sounds like Mowbray doesn't really fancy Rothwell because he doesn't work as hard as other midfielders we have. I thought he put a real shift in on Saturday. 11 Smallwood's won't win you games Tony!
  18. Impressive tonight apparently and scored a cracking 20 yarder too. He might still find it tough to get in this side at the moment.
  19. Did an unbelievable block towards the end of the game, was almost as good as scoring a goal.
  20. TM is only human, he's got most things right at Rovers but he's only human, he's is going to make the wrong decisions at times, or ones we don't agree with. I've never understood the argument that just because someone is the manager that they know better... Should we say the same for Kean and Coyle then? Fair enough, the manager is in a better position to make the appropiate decisions but it's not possible for every decision to be the correct one, no one is perfect. I know TM is the messiah but that doesn't mean we can't have a healthy debate about his footballing decisions.
  21. It's not that i'm blaming him, far from it, he's assembled a great squad of players that he has to manage and keep happy, it's a tough task. For me, there isn't space for Conway anymore, second half he gave the ball repeatedly and his crosses never beat the first man. That's a space that Brereton could have to get vital minutes.
  22. Burnley did under Dyche as does Wolves manager. Take a look at most teams who get promoted, they tend to clearly know their best 11. Like I said, changes here and there are to be expected down to injuries etc... But no one can realistically expect consistent results when we're making so many regular changes.
  23. I bet TM loses sleep over this one. I know most of us on here do!
