We are impotent up top at the moment, creating nothing, and nobody taking what little chances we have. Your point was that you wanted buckley higher up the pitch last week, I said that didn’t work as it wasn’t his strength, you disagreed, you were wrong. Move on

What is it with everyone being so childish on here today?

Buckley had 6 assists and was nominated for the December player of the month.

Brereton, you know, our top scorer? Are you sure you watch the games? He went away for 2 games , came back off the boil and then got injured.

Buckley has gone from passing it through to a lad who scored 20 goals to Gallagher and Khadra. Jesus it's not that difficult to understand surely? Buckleys ability to score himself has been shown up. It doesn't mean he's a disaster where he is

What chances? We barely create any real clear cut chances - and didn’t again yesterday bar the penalty. Apart from Swansea we’ve created 1-2 per match at best during this latest death spiral.

    You don't get a better chance than a penalty whilst playing 11 v 10

We weren't creating a huge amount more earlier in the season, the difference was we were taking them. The Preston game case in point. Nothing until Brereton scored that header

The question has to be asked, because ever since the Wigan FA Cup match, when Wigan bullied us and beat us and knocked us out of the cup, we've been on the end of some batterings and been found wanting.

Before Wigan, we were on the crest of a wave in the Championship, riding high in 2nd place and looking at possibly going top, but since then it's been a horrible downward slide

It seems to me Wigan provided the blueprint for Championship managers scratching their heads at our brilliant run and wondering how to counter it - rough us up with tough tackles, put the boot in where necessary,  knock us out of stride and we'll capitulate. We're the nice lads who don't bite back

Sheffield United last night was a case in point, they had some bruisers in their team who weren't afraid to make their presence felt. One was sent off (and it could have been more), but they scrambled a winner by making the corner a jostling physical contest in which Kaminski dropped the ball and they lashed home the winner from the rebound. The Luton, Forest, Swansea, and Hull matches were much the same.

Then your look at our team. How many warriors do we have? The likes of Lenihan and Wharton etc are hard lads but apart from Travis who do we have in midfield to mix it with the tough nuts?  Rothwell and Buckley certainly aren't that type of player while up front none of our forwards would say boo to a goose. In the case of Gallagher, he's as much physical presence as the proverbial passing butterfly

So are we falling out of the promotion race not just because we can't score goals but because we're a basically a bunch of "nice" boys who opponents know can be bullied into submission? Are we just too soft?

It's a good question and one that interests me a lot. You need hardy boys , battlers to get out of this league and as you correctly say Sheffield pulled a few strokes last night. It shouldn't have been let fly.

I think we have showed it more this season than we have for a long time. Perhaps the fact we are where we are means teams give us more of it. This is new for us, it's been a long time.

I agree the only actual hard lads are Lenihan and Wharton. You can add Ayala too. Travis is comical. I like him and what he does, but a proper hard man would swat him aside. Also agree that Gallagher is a wimp.

Johnson is as well to be fair, but his ability has wained. You add him and Ayala though and we immediately become nastier

Bit of a backtrack from your view last week that buckley must be kept up top because that was working before surely?

are you also still standing by we must not change formation or have you seen the light that changes are needed yet?

fair enough if you hold your hands up you were wrong

Buckley isn't "up top" he's an attacking midfielder. Do you know Brereton? Ya, he was playing upfront and when he was Buckley fit in well in his role. Having said that, we should have won against Sheffield.

No I don't think we should change formation. The issue continues that we aren't taking our chances.

    Do you watch the games?

Who would you have gone for out of interest?

Just looking on Wiki and Ossie Ardiles was the only non-British/Irish manager in the Premier League that season....and he got sacked. None of the British ones stand out as someone that I'd have brought in - maybe Keegan? So you're probably looking at being one of the first clubs to 'risk' bringing a foreign manager in. Not sure who was available that we might have gone for at the time. I see Wenger was mentioned somewhere on here - but that's one that's easy with hindsight. I'd not have been happy with him at the time - unlike a lot of the players that have been mentioned on here.

Amongst the lads doing what? He isn't a cheerleader.

Even if we remove the assumption that he is feeling low after getting a bad injury and missing a key period for his club and also a potential once in a lifetime international appearance in Brazil. He has played a lot of football with minimal breaks and Mowbray and many of us on here commented on how tired he has been looking. Surely a week with a mental and physical break far away is just what the doctor ordered.

It's hardly as if he has asked for a jolly up mid season when fully fit and the manager has turned a blind eye to it.

Surely the intention is for him to come back feeling refreshed and ready to tackle his rehab head on in the right frame of mind to impact the end of our season with a spring in his step?

What do you think they are thinking?

Have you ever been on a team? I don't know what you mean by cheerleader, but I have been on teams where players got injured and they stayed around, still came to training, still went to games, even on crutches. Gave support, received support, stayed part of the team.

You keep saying about not playing against Brazil and it being once in a  lifetime. He's 22 and has his entire international career ahead of him.

I don't see what physical break he can have off on holidays that he wouldn't be having at home. There is probably more movement involved in going on holidays.

I'm with Tyrone on this one, the other players are probably looking and thinking why is this lad heading off to the sun?

A physical break having played so much football in the last year without many breaks which was notably taking its toll even before the injury? A mental break to get over the disappointment of being injured and missing a crucial part of the season, as well as a once in a lifetime chance to play at the Maracana?

What use is he moping around not even really able to do any rehab so soon into his recovery? Just to prove that Mowbray isn't laissez-faire?!

You're assuming a lot there about what he is thinking and feeling.

He could have a rest at home and in and amongst the lads for a few hours every day. They are a team.

I just don't see the benefit in going off on holidays

I can't claim to have the physio knowledge to know what exactly can be done on an ankle ligament injury in the first couple of weeks when the foot is in a protective boot.

That being said, for a player who has had minimal breaks in the last couple of years and was showing signs of weariness even before the injury, aswell as presumably being gutted personally, an overdue week off to rest both physically and mentally seems fairly reasonable to me and not some sort of pointer towards managerial weakness.

I would have kept him around the group personally

I don't see what going on holiday accomplishes

So you don't think we needed an experience forward in during the window?  As far as I can see markandy has never played a senior game before coming here....was he ever going to be the answer.....

We needed one of them and a midfielder and a back up keeper.

I just don't see how playing 1 senior games makes a difference. What we really need is simply someone to put the ball in the net!

  11. I don't think its a great sign about Hedges. He starts 1 game and then disappears. Disappears when we need goals.

How did Mowbray only make one sub last night?

He is reverting to type I fear. We could be only in the middle of a death spiral, or worse......

Although he hasn't been helped by the club here. Tiny budget, but worse, he was undermined when he said he wanted to sell Rothwell and reinvest. We needed some new energy in the team...

Yep, I was...Buckley was never going to spearhead a midfield promotion team..🤷‍♂️

We should have cut a deal with Newcastle for Gayle, not bought an untried no mark and gone all in for promotion....oh, and we should have bought whiteman last year when we had chance for relative peanuts.

Mowbray is a shit manager and had a bit of luck with Diaz.

Remember you were saying we should have signed Ashley Fletcher, how's he getting on?

  13. Set pieces were brutal last night. Khadra was ok, but when I saw him step up I thought, oh this is 50/50 at best. Then he puffed his cheeks out and I knew he would miss. Terrible penalty.

All our set pieces were crap and wasted. Rothwell very guilty of this.

Buckley is so poor in front of goal he needs to be taken away from being there and either Dolan or ideally Dack brought in. Maybe just swap him and Rothwell?

Gallagher is very frustrating to watch. He backed out of a few duels last night and turned his arse on a few clearances. Big soft spoilt lad, who is unable to use his size and has a decent shot, but goes games without hitting one, pointless forward offensively.

It was a sucker punch, but Mowbray only brought on 1 sub , wasn't it? He should have taken advantage of the extra man

Tough, tough result and could be season defining.

Another 0 in the GF column here and I don't see how people can't be concerned. I'm not sure I've ever seen a Rovers team that looks less like scoring than the current lot - which is strange considering at one point very recently we were second highest scorers in the division. Was it really all down to Diaz?

He was scoring some from nothing, like that header against Preston
