Look stats. When he did and didnt play.

Im logging off else ill get banned. Disappointing to see so many ' he is shit anyway' morons. Kids was with the club many years, put in close to 200 appearances.

Jason Lowe racked up a load of appearances coming out of our academy. That's not a great measure of quality for the argument.

Don't necessarily disagree on your feelings about Nyambe though. He'd developed into a really solid defender for us after many years of frustration and I was disappointed that he left on a free (as I'm sure he is now). He had a lot of shortcomings though, especially in an attacking sense which has become a really important trait in modern day football for a full back.

The Phillips rumour is no more than the Styles, Bowler or JPvH rumours.

Let’s just see how it pans out.

For all we know, he might be able to press the button on his pro contract with Rovers and is looking forward to making his debut for us this season.

Whilst I completely agree with your point, these sort of rumours (I.e. players you ideally don't want to leave leaving) tend to come to fruition compared to potentially amazing incomings.

Just us and Norwich that have 2 or less.

Admittedly though, that's a quick glance and you would assume that not all the signings listed are first team ones.

I don't think that list shows us up much to be honest. Looking at the ins and outs objectively, I'd say Luton, Boro, Preston, QPR, Sheff Utd, Stoke & West Brom have improved and mostly only marginally.

Personally I think West Brom have done the best business bringing in Molumby, Wallace & Swift. They do look a keeper light with Johnstone gone though.

I wish I could share the optimism but I really can't.

I don't think anyone can seriously put a case forward that we are anything but weaker than we were last season. It's all well and good saying that the window isn't closed yet and that other clubs are also struggling to bring players in but I don't think many will have a lack of depth and experience to the extent we do, nor will many others have lost so many from last season.

We are basically hoping that Tomasson turns out to be a good manager, at least better than Mowbray, and that the younger players can step up / we don't get many injuries.

A dangerous and reckless way to approach a Championship season IMO but seems the majority are happy to gamble with it.

Completely agree with you and all of your points. A couple of injuries and things start to look really desperate.

We're in urgent need of a centre back, a centre midfielder and a striker in my opinion. Anything beyond that would be a bonus. We'll be starting the season on Saturday with less than what we need.

Oh there will be signings but leaving it late means you've missed the best players on offer and the players you bring in are panic buys at the last minute.

Minimum of two centre backs, a right back, midfielder and 2 strikers are badly needed.

I can see the club finish 13th or worse this season.  The way the club is run is a farce.

I completely agree with the sentiment and the shopping list.

We were saying the same thing last season and we ended up finishing 8th. Farce or not, the situation is recoverable. We just have to trust we have the right men in place to bring in the players we need. Important couple of weeks.

BBD is going to be sold almost certainly I'd say.  IMO its been a disastrous off season to date.

Yeah I'd say so. But with the same amount of certainty, I'm sure we'll make signings in a few key positions before the window closes.

The new set up were always going to be up against it straight away. The club never seem to act fast during the transfer window, whether that be due to ineptitude or poor internal structures. The recruitment process to bring them in took far too long, considering it would've been known that Mowbray was going. Plus GB & JDT have only really got a good look at the current squad last week and have had to reshape previous transfer target lists.

It doesn't look good at the moment, but it was always going to take time for them to make changes. As they both said when they arrived, it's going to take a bit of patience.

    Carter Ayala Wharton Pickering

                    Travis Buckley

    Markanday Dack Brererton

                 Gallagher

That team is better than at least 5 or 6 teams in the division

This team is a lot better than most of us are making out. I'm quite anxious about the lack of signings to date and us seemingly missing out on targets. But we'll be competitive in this league even with a few of a our better young players thrown into the squad. I'm sure we'll have strengthened before the window closes.

What I'm reading is that he left on his own decision with the team at the top. So assuming he is looking for bigger prospects...the question still stands why the Venkys circus would be his choice.

We're a better prospect than Malmo. He's been in the running for the Hibs job apparently. I'd like to think we'd be a more attractive move in comparison.

After glancing over a few stats...

His Malmo team seemed to find the net a lot, scoring more than any other team in the league whilst also conceding one of the lowest amounts - 2 goals for every 1 conceded roughly. Have also seen that they averaged just under 60% possession over 2 seasons in which they won the league both times.

Suggests a decent attacking style to me - dominating possession, effective in the final 3rd and not conceding too many.

That's in the Swedish league mind, not quite as competitive as the Championship - but if he was to implement a style like the above with us, it could work wonders.

All guess-work based off stats really, if anyone has actually watched Malmo they may be able to back or disprove this.

From the very few times I watched them, they were dominant in possession and tried to get it out wide where they had lots of pace. Created lots of chances.

Former Rover Marcus Antonsson was playing for them.

He needs to have a good look at the staff and weigh up what style suits our players abilities best rather than shoe horning them into a style he used at his last club etc. We had enough of that with Mowbray.

Agreed. Just answering the question. I recall watching Malmo play a couple of times when he was there and they played with that formation. Like you say, any sensible manager will weigh up the resources they have before deciding on formations, tactics, team needs, etc.

Such a weird thing to impose. If Lowe and Benson were highly rated I'd get it but neither seem to be?

Probably cost us a potentially good manager and left us with another dolloper.

Not sure that's necessarily the case (them not being highly rated). Can't speak for Lowe, but from the conversation I had apparently Benson is highly rated behind the scenes and by other clubs/players.

I was surprised but only really in comparison to some of the stick he gets on here.

If the new manager is being forced to work with Benson and Lowe we are definitely not going to get anyone decent. The compensation for them would be way less than the money we’ll lose with Darragh and Ryan leaving. A good manager would have been able to keep them. We are not showing the players any ambition with the way we are going about this.

I think this has been fairly well established by other posters, but I heard from a good source yesterday that the incoming manager can bring an assistant with them but need to work with the existing coaching staff (Benson, Lowe, Johnson).

Couple that with the DoF role not being filled before the manager role is, it's a weird way of doing business.

Re Wagner. This is the man who once Huddersfield had secured a top 6 finish rested his players against Birmingham in 2017 to make sure his team as in the best possible form for the play offs. Which they duly won and made millions by getting to the Premier League. Top club management and job done. It wasn't his fault Coyle had been so shite.

When Mowbray rested half of his team at Charlton after we had been promoted, which potentially cost Plymouth a play off place, I don't recall Rovers fans slating him for on behalf of Plymouth. (More so on behalf of us winning the league).

I went to that game with a Plymouth fan and we both fumed about it, albeit not via social media.
