  1. This game has all the hallmarks of Rovers getting an absolute drubbing
  2. And we concede so easily. Maybe a foul but it would have been very soft. Nailed on loss today. That's 3 in a row and Mowbray will be starting to sweat.
  3. Looks like 4231 with Armstrong up top, Rothwell left, Gallagher right and Holtby in the hole. I have to concur we look incredibly weak down the left.
  4. Gone from being really excited about the season after Bristol City to not giving a toss. Will still pay my £10 and watch though as I am a glutton for punishment. I can't see Mowbray changing 433.
  5. He's playing it because he needs to fit his "wide strikers" in somehow and that way he can get two of them in.
  6. Spine of the team is decent - Lenihan, Travis, Dack, Armstrong. A few decent players around the squad - Holtby, Evans, Nyambe. But he's done himself by buying absolute and utter garbage strikers to play on the wing for £12M rather than sorting out the defence. Mistakes that big cost you your job. He's only got himself to blame. Hope Venjys fancy dipping into their pocket this summer for a new manager and at least half a dozen new players.
  7. Well I think if you asked Mowbray he would tell you Gallagher and Brereton on the wing does work. He's absolutely convinced about it. The formation is custom made, in Tony's mind, to get the best out of his players. I mean what is clear is Tony spent £10M on those two to play this wide striker role which seems to me and many as utterly mental, but that is his judgement. As for whether we should persevere with it I'm in two minds. Did look very effective against Bristol City who just couldn't cope at all, and while we lost against Wigan we totally bossed it until Travis went off and should have won the game. The freedom it gives Downing is excellent. But equally Gallagher and Brereton on the wings an absolute joke from a footballing perspective. Brereton has started to look better but all he can do is dribble a bit and then lose the ball. Gallgher can be effective defensively but offensively is totally abject. Have either of them had a decent shot in the last two games? I guess it's one of those formations which people will tolerate as long as we win, but if we aren't getting the results it's a focal point for criticism. But Tony's set his stall out, can't see him changing it unless we get hammered.
  8. I can't really see Tony changing away from the 433 false 9 formation. Those who think we will switch back to 4231 likely to be disappointed.
  9. If we stick with 433 I think the personnel breaks down this way False 9 : Dack, Holtby, Buckley, Graham? Wide Strikers : Gallagher, Brereton, Armstrong, Samuel Flanking centre mids : Travis, Evans, Johnson, Rothwell, Davenport CM playmaker : Downing, Holtby? RB : Nyambe, Bennett LB : Bell, JRC CB : Lenihan, Tosin, Williams GK : Walton, Leut
  10. To be honest Travis is our most important player. He's so effective. Whenever he goes off we look poorer.
  11. We're looking really good. Trick to this formation is Downing is always free and we can always beat the full back.
  12. Him off for Armstrong is a no brainer at half time. Need to do something about Bennett too, total liability. Bradley Johnson on?
  13. Holtby looks quality. I like him in the false 9. Generally this formation seeks to suit us really well though Bennett at left back really worries me.
  14. Can't really see Tony changing the team after a very solid win against Bristol City. Maybe Armstrong for Holtby, but I can see how Mowbray fancies him off the bench. Theres a game following midweek so I could see Nyambe,Armstrong and Rothwell coming in for that one. I'm interested to see how this bizarre false 9 and wide strikers formation develops. Think it's the strangest I've seen in all my time following Rovers (and that's saying something - there were some corkers under Souness) but it worked pretty well. Wigans back 4 will be wondering how on earth do you mark it. Edit - it's the sort of formation that screams it has been developed through data mining rather than human intuition. Basically looking at aerial duels won and ball retention, shots per game etc. Money Ball sort of thing...
  15. Well it's probably our worst ever result in a major tournament and he was poor. Got quite a lot of stick for it. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/england-vs-iceland-reaction-too-rich-too-famous-too-much-ego-joe-hart-epitomises-everything-that-is-a7106591.html%3famp https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/ryan-giggs-says-joe-hart-10103381.amp
  16. As the teams were lining up for the game alongside one another in the tunnel he was jumping up and down and saying stuff like "were going to smash them" and "were way too good". Highly disrespectful to the Icelanders, and ultimately an embarrassment of hubris.
  17. Not many international players who have fallen as fast as Hart. Seems like a total nobhead to be fair. All went wrong for him after that Iceland game where he was an embarssment in the tunnel.
  18. Over the last 3 years Venjys have immeasurably improved their ownership by keeping their distance and letting Mowbray get on with it. Also they've put a huge amount of cash in. So credit where it's due. That said if they called it quits and walked away and we started free falling like Bolton I would still say one of the major benefits is we could hopefully get the club back under fan ownership, even of that meant bankruptcy and reconstituting the club. I wouldnt want that, but if it happened I would hardly be devastated either.
  19. It does look like a coconut shy. They really should take Jack down, he does not need to be alongside that shower.
  20. Not picking on you specifically, just I guess I feel there's endless stick on here (including from me) about Brereton and Gallagher but not much praise about Armstrong, Lenihan, Travis etc whose had a phenomenal seasons. We've got four players now who are really top class in this division - Lenihan, Travis, Dack, Armstrong. If we can get a good keeper and hold onto them thats a really excellent back bone to the team. Most promising squad we've had since Cairney left imo.
  21. I think we're pretty down on our own players to be honest. Armstrong has been absolutely phenomenal in 2020, Travis and Lenihan are as good as anyone in their positions in the league. Downing, Evans, Tosin, Nyambe, Holtby all look the part for a top six side. Fair enough Brereton and Gallagher have been very poor, but largely the team's done well this season.
  22. Warren ready used to annoy me but I've warmed to him over time. Hes a Crawley Town fan I think but move north to take Rovers social media lead role and has the passion of the newly converted.
  23. Depends really. Things look okay at the moment, but it's possible the infection rate will increase at some point over late summer/autumn, and if/when it does crowds at the football will be one of the first casualties.
