Another dispiriting defeat in front of the home fans following on from the Preston debacle

Can you blame folk for not turning up?

It was very full around me this evening in the Jack Walker upper.  I could count the regulars (ST holders) on the fingers of one hand.  Most of the fans appeared to at Ewood as part of larger family groups making it a Christmas outing on a one off basis.

The ST holders looked like they were staying away to be replaced by occasional visitors who would not have been impressed with JDT and our players.

  2. For any moaning minnies out there seeking to blame Rovers if there is a postponement let’s deal with fact not idle speculation.

I was at Ewood for a work meeting yesterday and the pitch looked magnificent; the groundsman TW was even cutting the grass.  He told me the undersoil heating has been on all week along with the pitch ‘daylight heat lamps’.

If it is off blame the snow / referee / local authority / Police not the Rovers.

Looks like he's out for weeks/months. Disaster in the context of our lack of goals recently and failure to sign a striker in January.

    Big big miss.

We did sign a striker, the lad from Spurs.  Sadly he got injured.  It is time to get Jack Vale into the squad.

It is in Preston too now, but it's forecast to stop in a couple of hours. I can see many of the 471 Millwall fans not making it today.

Preston Rail Station is closed to all passengers so I am not sure Millwall fans would be able to change trains onto the minor line to East Lancs.

I am in Leyland at present and the weather is foul and the snow is sticking.  There is sadly a good chance the game will be off.

The story is that Nyambe and his agent met with the Rovers hierarchy on Monday and the impasse continued with regard to the new contract so Mowbray dropped him. That is from an impeccable source. That in my view is nothing short of scandalous from Mowbray who weakened us before a ball was kicked. And to bring Hedges on ahead of Nyambe to play right back in a four told me everything about good guy Mowbray.

Whilst we were on the good run we had eight or nine players playing well which was enough to get us over the line. Now we only have a handful playing well and it's really showing. Khadra, Buckley, Brereton, Rothwell, Giles, Lenihan, Van Hecke and Zeefuik were mediocre tonight. I really think we should have pushed the boat out in the recent window to kick on but we only improved the squad marginally and now I fear that we won't even make the playoffs.

In the week before the end of January there were 3 meetings with Nyambe’s agent.  An improved offer was made however the agent would not shift with regards to Nyambe’s demands.  It sounds like stalemate.  Maybe ‘his head was in the wrong place’.

  6. Lenihan needs a rocket up his backside for that sending off.  I believe the first yellow was his tenth and the follow up for the sending off means he misses two games.  Buckley I reckon is also on 10 and is therefore suspended for WBA.

Mowbray taking off Khadra was bizarre, he was our only creative player.  As for Rothwell he needs a bollocking as well for that stupid yellow - he only started playing in the last 20 minutes.  For all our effort in the 2nd half we never looked like scoring.  It was an easy win for Forest.

Sunderland are donating £1 from every ticket sold for Jermain Defoe's return game, towards the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

Rather than putting an extra event on - could we do something similar?

    E.g:

The big home game vs. QPR at the end of the month.

£1 from every ticket sold goes towards the funding for Tony Parkes care.

Market the hell out of it, get people on board with it, and get a load more fans in the ground. It would be enticing for Rovers fans of all ages given Tony's status as a true Rovers legend.

Obviously benefit #1 is money towards the care of Tony.

Benefit #2 for Rovers - Positive PR without having to fund an extra game, pay staff etc. The £ lost on every ticket would comfortably be remade by extra ticket sales and money spent in the ground. Plus possible future sales with a win made more likely by more fans in the ground for what could be a huge game in our season.

    Easy and effective.

(I would rather £5/10 donated per ticket - just using the Sunderland example as a starter)

    What an excellent idea 👏👏

  8. Surely TP would have an occupational pension as well as a state pension.

If his savings drop then his care will be funded by the State; presumably he has a house and this may have to be assigned to the local authority to pay for his care?

I am not against helping him and his daughter out but many of us face the exactly the same challenges and it is paid for from savings and property and then the State funding kicks in.

Yeah I remember in 2000-2001 we made the Huddersfield and Sheffield Utd games in the run in £10 & £5 in all areas. The Huddersfield game got nearly 30k in, while the Sheff Utd which was midweek got over 25k on.

Different times obviously, but I think the QPR game is perfect for a £10 ticket game, then maybe do something with the Bournemouth one if we're still in the run in.

The QPR is a good one to target.  We are already getting up to 1,000 kids and parents for the BE Upper bussed in via the Ewood Express for that game (sponsored by a local Asian owned business 👏👏) so we could look at trying to fill up the bottom of the DE as 1864 suggests and getting a decent number in The Riverside for a change.  Rovers need to be brave and take a chance….it will work you know ☺️

  10. What a post and what a night for you and your Dad.

Thank goodness he is still with us. 🙏🏻   Well done to the Boro medical team and all the others that helped.  It was also good to hear the good side of football fans and the response from both clubs and both sets of supporters.

  11. It is easy to blame Rovers for everything; what do expect them to do part way through the season if payments have not been forthcoming?
Whilst I am no fan of that vaping stuff I am pleased that SW has made a deal until the end of this season.  Well done Steve 👏👏

‘Lancs Live understands that Recoverite had not maintained payment to the club and that a settlement fee has been agreed between both parties for the contract to be terminated.’

  12. The ‘cash only’ on Saturday is, to put it mildly, bonkers!!

I know Blackburn is well known as a cash economy but I for one never use it.  I have had the same £20 in my wallet for at least 14 months.  We are encouraged to use contactless in all our dealings and this is just weird.

At least Rovers will be getting a share of the ticket sales given this is a cup game. I wonder if that will be paid to Rovers in used £10 notes?

Surely it would be easier from Wigan’s point of view to send us as many as possible, get them sold beforehand, instead of a horde turning up on the day without tickets?

Nowt as queer as football club logistics…

Exactly.  We can easily shift 1,300 on the day.

They are being sold from their main ticket office as well so imagine 100’s of tipsy Rovers fans turning up.

I would have expected they would want to try and manage the crowds rather than creating problems.

I blame SW, TM and the V’s for this god almighty mess 😳

Good effort. I do find it strange that we would only get an extra 500 allocated yesterday, sold out in no time, and now have to suspend sales until Saturday.

Would have made more sense to sell as many as possible today and tomorrow and then make a decision Friday on sales on the day.

Maybe they wanted to make sure that there were more than enough to sell on the day.

We have a maximum of 1,300 available on the day.  I was in the Club Shop yesterday and the Wigan tickets were flying out and a few 1/2 STs still being sold.

15 mins on the train for me from Preston and straight into the excellent Wigan Central bar.
