  1. Absolutely spot on. I am one of those supporters who will not countenance Barton playing here under any conditions what so ever - even if he paid us for the priveledge!!!!!. I just hope that if anyone conected with Blackburn Rovers gives the idea of signing Barton more than a nano seconds considerations they look at this thread. A number of posts have eloquently explained Barton's faults and problems. This is a complete no brainer. A bad joke.
  2. I love Benni's interviews. He is one of the few footballers who is genuinely interesting because you never know what he might say. Most footballers have been programmed to say the right things and all the usual cliches, "it doesnt matter if I score or not as long as the team wins", " I am just thinking of the next match" an so on. Benni manages to come up with the unexpected on a regular basis. Also delighted that he seems to have got his touch back for some reason. An inform Benni is one of the best strikers in the division and a joy to watch
  3. A bit wickled and cruel of Anti Europe Smiths to take the mickey out of those who wanted to bring Barton to Ewood. But also quite clever and deserved. I would never want to see someone like Barton at Ewood at any price - literally. As someone once mentioned on the lee Bowyer thread " I would not touch him with a Barge pole .... unless it was to push him under.
  4. When Bellamy was with us I thought he was truely astounding, an absolute match winner. We got a fantastic return from him despite a season limited by injury. I truely thought he would end up as one of the recognised top players in the premiership. And all this was without a top flight striking partner to complement him. However he looks a long way from these acolades now. I think the best season of his career will be the time he spent with us and think it is great credit to our management team and club that they got the best out of him.
  5. This is a great pity. It is like a love afair when you realise that you care about them alot more than they care about you. But what can you do. I dont think he will go unless it is to one of the big four or as he says a Champions league club. Hope there is no clause that means he can go for a knock down fee though. Benni is real class. He has that eye for goal that very few have. Stats dont lie
  6. I think that this is a big gamble. Logic says that this is not a good deal. If it comes off, I think it will rank along side MH getting Belamy to the club, realising how good Benni could be, discovering Ryan, realising what potential Bentley has. If it does work we will all be delighted, especially the doubters like me. Also you have to consider where can we get hold of the quality of midfielders that we need that ar,nt going to cost silly money.
  7. I will mis him. He was a great character. Part of football is the memories not just the results. The swan dive was fantastic. He always worked hard. I thought that he was a real nuisance to lot of opposing defences ( apart from the best.) He was good with his head. Some of the unintentional ricochets off the shins were frustratingly memorable in their way. I think he did well. He did score goals which some previous strikers failed to do. I am not surprised he is in demand in the championship. Good luck to him and I will keep an eye out for how he does in the future
  8. I have been watching Jemal Johnson for a number of years now in the reserves. Anyone who thinks he is slight / small now should have seen him when he first started playing in the reserves: he was tiny then and has bulked up no end recently!!. He use to be simply pushed off the ball by strapping by 6 foot 10 inche 16 year old centre backs. However, he always stuck to his task and developed a range of tactics to cope with this including spinning off the ball. He was always good at getting a shot in and sometimes was very direct often to the surprise of defenders. He was always one of the best 2 prospects that I saw in the reserves ( The other being Gallagher who had a great goal scoring record ). He really shone in the reserves and I was somewhat surprised that we let him go as I did not think that he had yet peaked. So good luck to him. I hope he does really well and I will be able to say that I saw him as a youngster and thought he had something special about him.
  9. I would have been quite pleased with our performances against Chelsea and Everton if it didn't mean we had 1 point out of 9. Win the next 2 matches and I will be quite bouyant. Loose a couple more and .....
  10. I posted earlier that whilst I am usually nervously looking at the clock half the time to see if Rovers can force a winner or hang on for a result, I didn't expect to have to do so on Sunday with it being an end of the season game. Wrong! Just when I thought that the game was one Tugay kindly makes the final half hour much more interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and as usual there were pleanty of issues to think about. Without the 4 missing players Rovers didn't look the same team at the start. I didn't think we played too well up until the goal. Savage is always very reliable and always puts in such a great deal of effort. For a player whose game requires so much energy he could have been forgiven for a below par game at the end of the season but this was not the case. I am getting more impressed by Khizanishvili every time I see him. What a find.! I thought that Emerton looked very out of sorts at the start of the game and lacking in confidence. Nothing seemed to be going right and I could see what his detractors are going on about. Therefore I was delighted with his run down the wing and the excellent cross. He seemed to get alot better after that. Still not made my mind up about Bentley I think Blackburn should be eternally grateful to Dickov as he was the player who could be relied upon last season to score goals. But I dont think he did enough or worried the Man City defence enough on Sunday. However Kuqi definitely can make a contribution at Premiership level. The other forward needs to learn how to feed off his flick ons etc. Great game. Having withdrawl symptoms already.
  11. Tomorrows match will be the first one in a long time when the result isn't too important. I usually spend half my time in a highly nervous state watching the clock tick, down wondering if Rovers can make the equaliser, force the winner or hang on for the result. This time I will just be able to enjoy the football. I think some end of season games have been a bit dissapointing but hope that under Hughes he will want to go out on a celebratory note and with a win. Rovers to win 2 - 0. Bellamy to score and Pongolle ( making us wonder if it is worth us keeping him on ) [ Hopefully 3 - 0 with a Shefi Kuqi final goal when he comes on as substitute and then brings the house down with the swallow dive]
  12. There are some very good reviews on here which only goes to show how perceptive and knowledgeable Rovers fans are ( well some of them anyway ). I just wanted to add my comments following a marvellous evening. I was impressed by the contribution and effectiveness of even those players who are not deemed to have had a " great game". I am thinking of players like Bentley and MGP who would not have been many peoples nomonation for man of the match on the night but still worked incredibly hard and made a real contribution although not in a particularly eye catching way/ match winning way . It must be very difficult to play against Rovers when everyone is playing to such a high standard Zurab's dribbling out of defence ( against Crespo?) was a delight. I have been unsure to a little negative about Pongolle in the past but got the feeling on Tuesday he was really keen to make an impression and be asked to stay at Rovers ( and why shouldn't he be - it is a chance to stay at a top 6 club, in Europe and with the potential to go further ). Well done!!. Thanks for a great season. ( What can Hughes do in the transfer market this summer? Another couple of miracles would do nicely).
  13. I don't think that some contributors appreciate just how rare a goal scoring mid fielder is. Just have a look at the leading goal scorers table and I think that puts MGP into a proper perspective and on this basis he is in pretty illustrious company. this isn't the whole story but it is an important part of it. I also think that some people are underestimating his overall contribution.
