  1. "Typical" National winner: - Carries 11 stone or less - no winner with more than 11st 1lb since 1983 - Aged 8-12 (not too young, not too old) - Won over 3m+ - Won in a field of 12 or more - No French bred has since 1909. - Must be an experienced chaser (more than ten runs, more than two seasons chasing) - Had four to seven runs this season (as every winner bar Miinehoma since 1990 has) - 14 of the last 18 winners came from the first 8 in the market at starting prices. - Placed in the first three that season prior to the Grand National or alternatively ....... use a pin. I'm going for Backstage e/w.
  2. We know he's loaded (and we are happy that he finished his career with only one winners medal) but we ought to recognise this as an act of generosity. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/6090200.stm
  3. Fierce competition for this, but Garth Crooks is insuferable.
  4. Great game and a great result. We never looked back after this - Bolton realising our permanent superiority were never seroius competition for the second automatic promotion spot. But it wasn't wet and windy. It was perfectly still and dry and about minus 10. Matt Jansen was God.
  5. Lest we forget ...... http://www.gjmedia.co.uk/RoversReturn.htm
  6. Rovers scorers - 1986 Away (3-1) Ainscow, Barker, Thompson (og) Home (2-0) Barker (2) New anorak for Christmas me.
  7. I recall that the family reasons cited were that he wanted his children to grow up in Scotland. This presumably explains why 18 months after leaving the Rovers he signed for Coventry - subsequently playing for our local rivals Bolton and Preston. Wouldn't you have thought that as a mark of respect to us he'd have refused to sign for them?? A pity that Colin sullied his relationship with us by leaving in unfortunate circumstances. We owe him nothing. He career with Scotland ended pretty ignominiously too. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/w...002/1249547.stm

  11. Good stuff from the Rovers this afternoon against an admittedly poor Bolton side. Todd and Johannsen outstanding and Dickov led the line brilliantly against two Bolton ogres. The side looks galvanised - well organised and unlikely at any point to conceded a goal. I'd heard Bolton supporters say that the "long ball" criticism levelled against them is unfair. But having seen it at first hand, how can they complain?? Bringing on the 6 feet 3 inches 48 year old Les Ferdinand to add to what already looked like a rugby team sums up their approach to the game and their pitiful approach as a club. Just be glad you support the Rovers. Always.
