  1. still has to rate as one of my best memories ever supporting Rovers that. What we would give for the likes of Bortherston, McKenzie, Garner, Andy Crawford et al.....................but most of all what we would give for a Manager like Howard to restore some decorum. Night God Bless Howard. RIP.
  2. Frequent sub from memory Abbey. Played for them down the road also. Night god bless Paul
  3. Remember spending some time with him and Billy in the early prem years. Couple of grand lads. RIP Dominic
  4. Not quite on a par with Stuart Metcalfe in the Navi (the Snug area, naturally !). No class that McCarthy bloke.
  5. Love the latest vid Whittle. Outstanding memories. SPEEEDDDDIE ! Legend. The Saint was right - 'there is no reason why Blackburn can't do a Leeds !' And we did - Champions just a few years later courtesy of Jack & Kenny. Who would have thought when i was stood on that terrace at Selhurst Park a lump in the throat listening to Gladd all Over where we would be just five or so years later.
  6. Remember a few of our heros like a shandy or two at the time ! Remember big col getting that hammered one FRIDAY night he was declared not fit for the saturday. Was great to be able to chat to your heros at the bar.......can't see McCarthy et al sharing a pint and a laugh and a joke with the fans now !
  7. Decent lad who was misled and ill-advised by a very greedy agent.
  8. Altogether now.......... BEAMO BEAMO BEAMO
  9. Just found the programme from the game as wanted to clarify if my memory served me well. Was in the 100 club that day and remember there still been some needle in there too. Went around and got all the players autographs and remember Paul Wood inserted 1-0 within his autograph - little s**t he was.........Garner was in fine form after the game in there - fag and bitter in hand - remember some of the Pompey officials ushering some of their players out for fear it might get a bit tasty in there.....Happy Days - when you could get up close to the players...............can't quite imagine some of our multimillionaires doing the same in the 100 club after the game.
  10. 4-1 to the Rovers. Their fans invade the pitch fronting right in front of us and gave us a nice round of applause if i remember rightly - pussy cats That was the season they got promoted with the likes of Sheringham, Jimmy Carter, Terry Hurlock etc.. Happy Days !
  11. What a Legend. An all time Rovers great. Would always oblige an autograph in the 100 club after the game - pint of thwaites in one hand - B&H pushed into his mouth so he could hold the pen with the other. My generation will talk about Garner with the same fondness that some of the older guys talk about Douglas and Clayton. Whilst he never played for England or in the top division - he was always recognised as the top centre forward outside of the then first division. How football has changed.
  12. Fair Play to Lucas - if someone offered to double my salary - think i may consider moving to ol' London town. Of course it was about the money. Like has been said he is hardly going to turn around and tell the truth is he : 'Yeah well - when Wham offered me 60k a week i nearly fell off my chair - i mean they are worse than rovers granted - but i am on guaranteed 3x more per week even if they go down so really - i would have been a bloody fool to refuse. And besides - got my agent to write a relegation clause in the contract so if they do go down - should be double bubble when some other mugs wanna pay me as much as i am on now - Happy Days !'
  13. I'm up for giving it some of that on his debut to welcome him home. Fingers crossed. I know Dunny has his knockers - but at last we have a bit of excitement at the club - have spoken to a lot of Rovers' fans who are genuinely excited about this. Would be fantastic if Dunny signs and gets off to a flyer. It would really bring the buzz back to Ewood. And once we get the buzz back - together with the intitiatives the club are making on ticket prices - can only help improve ticket sales.
  14. An old favourite can be added to the BBE's repertoire : 'DUNNY FOR ENGLAND'
  15. Exiled - Relegation also costs money. We need to invest in some pace now - both up front but more importantly at the back. Yes - we have been hit heavily by injuries - but i do believe we need a couple of additions to the squad come january if we are to avoid a nailbitng 2007. Rovers have suffered from too many matches - the revised format of UEFA Cup not helping us. The players look tired and what with our injury situation - we are struggling. Hopefully MH will address the issue in January. If he does then i am confident we will ride the storm.
  16. Remember been sat on my old mans shoulders. We had more fans at Gigg Lane that night than we did for most of our home games. Penultimate match of season if i remember rightly - didn't they come to Ewood on last day of season and beat us ! Howard Kendall, Andy Crawford, Big Dunc - happy days
  17. Remember supping in a WMC that day - went with tremendous excitement that this was fnally going to be it. Out sung about 200 palace fans in there - all 2 car loads of us - even doing the party piece of tie a yellow ribbon on the main stage. Being chased by Milwall down some back alleys in their surgical masks on the way to the game Don't want to talk about my memories of the game and the fans - it is erased. Having 2 bottles of champagne in the motor and giving them to a couple of respectful Palace fans who weren't gining it large (about the only 2 on the day). Almost failing my General Studies A Level the next day - it was heartbreaking for a 17 year old to bear. Have been back there many a time and hated it ever since - although always a friendly welcome at Norwood Junction in the Railway. Feel sorry for them having bought Kuqi and also for them that their record att. @ Selhurst of 51k was vs Bumley. Must have been the Clarrots 50k amazing away support
  18. Happy Days - God Bless Mr Sheard from St Georges Avenue !
  19. Stu - still managed to get through as under 12 on bbe when i was 15. Prior to that used to get lifted over nuttall st turnstiles until i was 7 ! Fair play to him - better than staying away !
  20. We used to have these types of threads and would slag every man /woman / boy and girl who said that they were no longer prepared to pay the increased pricing levels. We now have a totally different attitute towards these people and we have a lot of real constructive views on the subject. i) Yes, Rovers need to maximise their revenues. Absolutely spot on. And as long as people continue to pay that price then you can charge it - basic supply and demand. However - i think the proof wil lbe in the pudding and i have seen may Comapny's go out of Business as they do not understand the threshold of the paying customer to walk away. I think the interesting thing this year will be to see how many casual NON-ST holding fans turn up to watch the blues. ii) We shouldn't fall into the trap of comparing our prices vs. other clubs in the area. I don't think we lose much custom as once you are a blue you are always a blue and the days of people going to watch a game every weekend have long gone - as people can rarely afford a game every weekend. Jan makes a good point when comparing what else we could spend our money on - but going to watch Madoona is a once in a 2/3 year cycle - a bit like us paying similar prices to go to a European game abroad. What we do forget is that for a family of 2 and 2 kids - i can spend over £100 for 90 mins football where i am not even guaranteed to be entertained vs bloody Everton ! Where else can i spend my £100 - i can go to the races - and pay £25 for the family where i know i will be entertained. I can take the family away for the weekend - Premier Lodge rooms at £50 per night ! Options are endless. A ton is a hell of a lot for the working man to shell out in a mnot so prosperous area like Blackburn. iii) Whilst we still have good local support - we have also seen a lot of support move out of the area so when you add the travel piece into it and the travel time - it can be at least a full day out of your time. Before having a family i was more than prepared to do this - now it gets more difficult. Don't have the answers but people will definitely vote with their feet and when a customer finds something else to spend his money on - then it is very difficult to get them back. Still think vs. what we charge / size of town / average income that Rovers don't do badly at all with Gates regardless of what anyone says - but be interesting as SG says above whether the £36 threshold will just be too much. The story for me was summed up last season where we couldn't seel all our rickets at home to the Mancs. Can't remember that happening since the PL days and ticket prices & ability to watch it at home on sky willl only alleviate the problem. The one thing that will get numbers back on the gate against this backdrop is good quality, attractive football, and a run of victories and goals for the likes of McCarthy. Just hope the boy does the Business for us.
  21. My favourite season as a Rovers fan (perverse i know - but used to love trapsing around the lower leagues - same old faces at away matches - proper football !) Plymouth away was a fantastic day. Down on the train from London - hooked up with another blue - and formed Berkshire Blues that day ! (Lost the flag at Wimbledon away following season after 1 too many sherberts). Down there early doors - chating to a couple of Plymoth fans on train who advised us not to avoid a couple of pubs - the Strawberry and Cherry Tree. Walked past both en route to ground - both were taken over by Rovers fans. Godd few beers in there before walking through a funfair if i remember rightly at back of away end to get onto ground. Game was extremely memorable - a wrench of emotions - them going 1 up and then Speedie doing the Business. 'Ei Ei Ei Ei Oh, Up the football league we go......' throughout the second half. Their fans gutted - on the pitch at the end with the police dogs. Got ran most of the way back to the Station by the Central Element. Got ###### on train - chatted to Michael Foot who looked about 107 even then! Game of football on the train with empty beer cans with some Plymouth lads - good lads they were too ! Some sore shins on the way home from both sides. Big exodous off train at Newton Abbott as many Rovers were staying over in Torquay. What a day ! Nearly as good as the rest of the season !
  22. Waggy - my favourite all time rovers song this one.....on the famous boxing day ! Ozzie - also remember the other version : Bob Lord was a butcher, He made his own meat pies, He ate one by mistake one day, Thats how the bugger dies, NA NA NA NA NA NA Was in Cricket Field Stand this day and will never forget the fighting continuouly in the Bee Hole. Remember Macky up the railings at the front with his Whitbreads BRFC flag. Happy Days.
  23. Wellesbourne's one and only blue will be there. Wouldn't miss it for the world. Don't go to Ewood as much as i would like, but this is my first time at an FA CUP SEMI after 26 years of following Rover's. Wet nights at Chesterfield and Wrexham many moons ago - who could ave dreamt then where we would be now. I intend to bloody enjoy saturday - so lets get behind them toa man. Yes it's a dear do for all of us - and respect to those who are and aren't going - lets just hope we are back on here on the sunday congratulating each other with sore heads and anticipating a repeat trip to the Milennium !
  24. 2-1 for the Rovers. Just hope it is easier getting a pint than the Burnley away game on the sunday am in Blackburn ! Bring on the semi - Bring on the Final - Bring on the bloody Cup !!
