  1. What I mean, and perhaps I didn't express it clearly enough, is that if the club could build an at least equivalent facility closer to Ewood Park and make some money, then I would be in favour. But, as I said, I can't see how this could be done.
  2. The last couple of pages of this thread have been an object lesson in how some random speculation can run away with itself on the internet. I didn't know Mushy personally before he joined the Forum last October along with two others but I was aware of his name. As ES says he has been a Rovers supporter for a long time. His appointment, like every one that has been made whilst I have been Secretary, had nothing to do with the club. He has contributed a number of times to discussions since joining and made his comment about considering a move into Blackburn with Darwen should the training ground move I think at the March meeting and re-iterated it in May. One of the reasons for his suggestion was that a training centre within Blackburn would be much better for community use than Brockhall. For what its worth I would be in favour of such a move if it made financial sense and if a suitable site could be found. Right now I can't see how either of those conditions will be met.
  3. I disagree Den. I think it's good to see pitches that are a good balance between bat and ball, rather than some of the pitches you see these days which are flat tracks combined with short boundaries. It then becomes just a matter of how many sixes each side can get away. Rizwan and Roy seemed to manage to get runs last night OK. Lancashire do seem to have depth in their squad right now. Despite 8 players off at The Hundred (9 if you count Finn Allen) they could still field a team with 8 regular starters for the friendly warm-up 50 over game with Cumberland yesterday
  4. Damn frustrating to have been at games there on Friday and Saturday with a small crowd and full social distancing (whilst England were playing to full grounds) and tonight Old Trafford is full.
  5. It took place last night and the minutes are with the club so should be out in a few days. We delayed the meeting by a week in the hope that we could meet in the flesh rather than Zoom. But then Steve Waggott got pinged and had to self isolate so we ended up back on Zoom last night so he could attend.
  6. I understand that the shop is planned to be open in time for the Leeds game.Whether that's next Wednesday or before I don't know.
  7. Given the hotel expansion plans the club have announced and the fact that they're not issuing a bond for members to help it this time suggests that they expect that demand will continue to be strong and that they have access to the money to do the work. Whether they are right os of course another matter.
  8. I understand that Rovers plan to play in their new home kit at Bradford and the new away kit at the Leeds game.
  9. Nah, pint of Two Hoots in the shade in E stand Gav. Yorkshire are batting first so hopefully they will have trouble with the setting sun too.
  10. Me too gumboots. It's a real shame that there will be so few of us there when everywhere else sports grounds seem to be packed (not that I'm sure they should be yet). Finn Allen didn't field last night so hopefully it's not something that keeps him out of the game tonight.
  11. An extraordinary innings by Liam Livingstone tonight. Amongst all the stats the most amazing one for me was that it was the first century scored against Pakistan in T20 internationals and they play more than any other team. Meanwhile I saw an equally entertaining game at Old Trafford- almost 400 runs scored on the night and Lancs just squeezing home. Birmingham won as well so Lancs will probably have to beat Yorkshire tomorrow to qualify for the quarter finals.
  12. Sorry Den you're right. I knew Yorks got 8 points but appear to have typed 3!
  13. After yesterday's incident at Headingley the Roses match has been abandoned as a draw. It was always going to end as a draw anyway but both sides have been deprived of a chance to pick up a few more bonus points to take into the next stage. So Lancs get 11 points and Yorks 3. I think that will mean that Lancs start stage 2 with 16.5 points and Yorkshire 5.
  14. Josh Buttler missing as well Gumboots, although he hasn't really performed in the games he did play this season. Lending Mahmood and Parkinson to England worked well the other day as they virtually won the game by themselves with 6 wickets. I was there - I have a Blast season ticket, and it was every bit as comprehensive as it sounds. They might need to win their last two home games next weekend to qualify though. The Government needs to get its finger out and decide whether Lancs can increase their crowd from 25% for the Roses game next Saturday - still no decision. As a ST holder I'm alright although I have had to book a new seat in case the crowd limit remains. There are presumably thousands who still have no idea whether they can go or not. It seems bizarre that there can be 31,000 at Lords today and 65,000 at Wembley tomorrow and yet they can't decide whether a few more can be let into Old Trafford.
  15. Whilst it was very frustrating to see Lancashire deprived of the services of Matt Parkinson for the last day of the game against Kent on a turning wicket and the game ending in a draw, they have qualified for the top group in the second stage today anyway. And whilst Lancs are now behind Yorkshire in the table by 2 points, when they move into the next stage they will take half the points in the Roses matches with them. After winning the first they are 22-1 ahead. Even losing the second Roses game should see them start slightly ahead unless they get really thumped.
  16. Bugger - just got the notification this had been posted before I had a chance to watch the 7pm highlights programme!
  17. I always felt a particular connection to Tony Field. Whilst Rovers were always my first team, growing up in West Lancs and Southport playing on Friday nights I often went with mates. Then he moved to Rovers and then to Sheffield at the time I moved there to university (although Wednesday were always my team there). Then I got to see him in New York when visiting my brother-in-law.
  18. I can claim to have seen Tony Field play for 4 different clubs - Southport, Rovers, Sheffield United and New York Cosmos.
  19. What a day for British sport yesterday and nothing to do with the football. This year’s Tour de France has had an eventful first 4 days with lots of crashes, one caused by a stupid “spectator” but most of the others rider error caused by the pressure of needing to at the front of the peloton. G has got his customary crash out of the way early but maybe he won’t be fit enough now to be competitive. I think I would struggle with a three week bike ride after dislocating my shoulder even if I had someone to push it back into place straightaway. Then yesterday the seemingly impossible happened. A week ago Mark Cavendish wasn’t planning to ride with his team and no one believed he could now add to his 30 tour stage wins. Then Sam Bennett got injured and a place in the team opened up. Then he won his 31st stage yesterday and cue buckets of tears. I think even Christian Prudhomme was struggling to hold them back. Cavendish himself could hardly speak on the podium.
  20. I understand he knows the Spanish for oatcake.
  21. So is there then a connection with how his Mum now finds herself in Stoke, the pottery capital of the UK?
  22. I’ll take a modicum of credit for that Herbie. The journalist emailed me a couple of days ago (my email is on the club website) and I pointed him in the direction of brfcs for some comments from fans about his debut.
  23. Another great night out last night watching Lancashire win again. Apart from Finn Allen's excellent knock the batting performance wasn't great, with a good few players getting in and out quickly, but 172 seemed a par total at the interval. But Lancashire do what they do best, controlling and squeezing a chasing team and Leicestershire were never quite in it at any time and definitely once the 3 spinners got going. Hartley was the pick of them this time although Parkinson picked up aother couple of wickets.
  24. It was a joy to get back to Old Trafford today for the first Blast game. I suspect that the crowd was about the same as they would have got in more normal times given it was a Wednesday afternoon, although obviously well spread out. Finn Allen's cameo 29 from 13 balls was also impressive - he was really annoyed to have got out. If he can continue in that vein he will get a lot of runs in the Blast.
  25. I wasn’t suggesting it was right, just that’s how both teams are looking at the games.
