  1. Blue Bruce liking my post from 2 years ago drew me back to this thread so I thought I would do an update.

We took delivery of a new MG5 on a two year lease last May and have done nearly 8,000 miles - we are both retired and now with one car only but we travel quite a bit and are in London a lot on the train.

The MG5 is at the cheaper end of the EV market but it has been perfectly good for us. We get 250-275 miles range, dropping to c220 in the winter, which is very good. With CCS charge capability longer trips are no problem at all now. Driving to London a couple of times we have just stopped once for 15-20 minutes to charge, which frankly is what we would have done anyway for a wee and a coffee. In fact most times we have come back to the car to find more charge than we planned to get.

We sold our 6 year old Renault Zoe for £6,800 in September. It had been an excellent choice and no doubt still is for the new owner. As a second car it was the one we always used as first choice going anywhere in a 50 mile range of home. Given it was an early model it only had a Type C charger and a fairly small range (140-200 miles) it was more awkward for longer journeys as the charging was slow. But we had it as a sole car for 9 months and it was fine.

I visit a number of travel websites and often travellers will ask about the practicality of hiring an electric car in the U.K. You inevitably get a string of people saying how it’s wholly impractical, there aren’t enough chargers, lots of them are broken etc etc. All posted by people who have never driven an EV and who refuse to accept any contrary advice from those who have.

The reality is that now driving an EV is perfectly fine, as long as you have somewhere regular to charge it near home. A charger at home is the obvious best plan but I realise not everyone can do that. But there are schemes for home chargers to be shared and street charging is getting more available too. We use Ecotricity for our home fuel and they now have an overnight rate of 7.5p per KWh so the fuel cost for nearly all our driving is ridiculously cheap. And the electricity is all renewable for us.

And also, discounting all the environmental and economic reasons EVs are just so much more enjoyable to drive.

I wasn’t talking about broadcast & production costs.

I meant the club get £X amount from the people abroad who pay to watch iFollow, but they lose  more than £X because people in the Blackburn area (and abroad) watch it on IPTV rather than attend Ewood or legally stream it.

I don't think I get your point Hasta. The club currently make the great majority of their streaming profit from UK sales and they will be losing that. Overseas sales are small, as you might probably expect.

And allows it to be broadcast on IPTV worldwide. I'm sure attendance-wise, and probably financially, they'd be better off not streaming them at all.

I know nothing about the costs involved, but presumably the club will be filming the games anyway and they will still be doing the commentary for the audio feeds, so maybe the marginal cost is minimal?

Rovers will no longer be offering a live domestic streaming service. As they are specific about domestic I assume there will still be a overseas service on offer. This is the reason why:

Rovers will still offer audio in the UK but won’t be able to do TV. They can still offer TV outside the UK but that only gives a small income.

Just to clarify…are you genuinely suggesting that I shouldn’t be able to buy a ticket for myself? 🤔

It’s the 21st century…people no longer necessarily live near to their roots. People also support teams from parts other than their familial roots. If I (a Rovers supporter) can have a Sheffield postcode, it’s not a ridiculous notion that an away fan might have a Blackburn postcode.

I have a friend who is a Wednesday fan who for many years lived in Rawtenstall. Matt Smith has presumably never lived nearer Ewood than Northampton.

  6. I wouldn’t be surprised to see McFadzean take up some sort of behind the scenes role with Eustace. I noticed at the Southampton game that at half time he spoke to every one of the 11 on field players as they came off. I would assume that he is adopting some sort of role already, whether official or unofficial.

Went for Scheffler pre tournament and seen nothing to change my mind but given my winnings today on Rovers, have already put a cheeky £fiver on both Fleetwood (50/1) and Fitzpatrick (85/1) as they are two very talented lads capable of making 'a charge' as invariably someone does.

    And Fleetwood won as well!

    Oh, hang on………….

Iwelumo co commentating on Talksport 2 seemed to think both were fairly obvious pens. I bet you'd have wanted them had they been the other way round!

The Sky commentators were very clear that they thought that they weren’t penalties. And in truth there was no outrage from either Leeds players or fans.

True, and I guess they're a different team now to the 1st half of the season. Never the less, I think every club will have similar feelings around 'I'm nervous for this fixture'. Ideally you want to be playing someone mid-table and nothing to play for (like us tonight!)

Actually the very best teams to play right at the end of the season are those who can’t go up automatically but are guaranteed a play-off place. It’s possible the both Coventry and Leicester could be in that category. Not likely but possible.

Whilst we might not have picked up many points under Eustace, not only have we slowed down the number of goals conceded we have stopped conceding a lot of late ones since he arrived. Just 1 so far after 75 minutes.

He keeps coming out top of those voting.

Indeed he does but my point was that there is no control about who is voting. Presumably I could go and give Adam a 9 every game without even seeing the game. Likewise I could give every Burnley player a 1 every game.

  12. Whilst it’s nice to see Adam doing so well we need to bear in mind that it’s not the BBC making these judgements, it’s just fans on the internet posting whatever scores they like. I assume many are Palace fans watching the game and making informed scores I think anyone can give whatever score they like.

Do you think there could rationally be 10-15k stay aways, though? Allegedly 42k on, but didn’t appear to be anywhere near that.

The Rovers commentators made the same comment on RoversTV. Sunderland said they sold 42,000 tickets but there were apparently more like 30,000 there. That gap can't be made up by some ST holders not turning up on the day.

    Charlie Cheston stepping down.

I presume all the finances might be managed in India now with maybe all bills paid directly from there cutting out the need to money transfer.

Not sure if that's possible or how it would impact their situation over there but no doubt it'll turn to shit anyway.

It would also increase the need for more revenue in Blackburn to cover any shortfall in day to day costs here, more price increases on the horizon.

The club have already appointed a Chief Financial Officer to replace him - someone who was Finance Director at Huddersfield.

    What was the attendance?

1,591. Not sure how that relates to the post above stating that they had sold 1,800 tickets. Still a record attendance though.

I went to a women's game for the first time yesterday and had a thoroughly good time. Rovers put away two good goals very early on and were then defending for most of the rest of the game. It was a novelty to see a Rovers player at Ewood just completely beat the Southampton defence for pace for the first goal - not a sight we have seen for a while with the men's team.

The front two were lively and the defence very solid but midfield were mostly run over. Hence Southampton had most of the ball but did very little with it apart from a period in the second half when Alex Brooks pulled off a few excellent saves to keep Rovers in front.

Agree. They are really trying to get it a closed shop.

Reading about Forset I was astounded by how unfair these rules actually are. I mean I knew they were, and the City debacle is showing what a farce and how much favouritism is in play, but looking at this case brought it to a whole new level.

Firstly Forest have a lower loss allowance as they were in the Championship for 2 of those seasons. Significantly less losses allowed. That really seems to be weighting the dice against promoted clubs. They try expanding to be premiership level but must have Championship level losses? Very unfair imo.

Secondly the Johnson transfer doesn't count when they delayed the sale to the end of the window where they could ger more money for him - thus being outside of the accounting window (marginally.) That's apparently a business decision not a mitigating factor. My business knowledge is sketchy but even I know that accounts and financial judgements DO make reference to factors outside of the accounting period. Loans that are to come in, big repayments coming up - they are a factor! Bizarre that FFP says otherwise. Sucking the soul out of football.

I agree that the rules are not fair. But Forest knew what the rules were from the outset, but they carried on buying players. They bought 44 players in 15 months, including 5 goalkeepers and three players who have never played a minute of league football for Forest. They were told by their own FD in January 23 that they needed to sell in that window but they bought some more. The Johnson transfer was not marginally outside the accounting window - it was two months later.

Making decisions like deducting points from clubs at this time of year stinks.

About time they scrapped these ridiculous rules and allowed clubs to run their finances as they wish.

It's considerably better to do it now than the previous policy, which would have led to deductions for next season.

I have no sympathy for Forest. They knew the rules, they were told last January try their own FD that they had to sell in the window but bought some more instead. Then they had to sell Brennan Johnson very quickly in the Summer to meet the rules and failed by a day or so.

Ticketing details have been announced for the Southampton game and once again there is a vagueness about them. It's free for under 12's (I applaud them for that) but only with an adult ticket but does this include season ticket holders or is it just if you buy only for this specific match. I think that is the case but it's not made clear. Similarly it says they are only free if you have an adult ticket, no mention of seniors.

    https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2024/march/18/ticket-news--rovers-v-southampton/

Arbitro - I checked this with Fraser Read. It seems to be bad wording rather than any deliberate policy. Any fan can get a free under 12s ticket as long as they are either buying an adult ticket for the game or they are already an adult season ticket holder. Adult includes seniors.

I have asked him to clarify it on the website.

So two months in his bunker instead then.

    Leadership 👏 👏

The meeting is being delayed at the request of the fans, not the club. We wanted a meeting to be after the next court date in India, rather than the day before. Likely to be on 26th now.
