  1. Two thoughts when I saw the line up: Evans and Reed is probably our best centre midfield pairing, but they’ll get no support from the wide players. Well, I was half right. Formation wasn’t great but I felt wasn’t the reason for the worst 30 minutes I’ve ever seen. No-one was up for it and basic mistakes were everywhere. When your best player keeps passing to the ballboy you know you are in trouble. What bugs me about our defence is that every game, at least one has a stinker and gifts a goal. Only Williams is consistently awful but all the rest have it in them to cost us the game. I can hardly remember an opponent actually earning a goal. Going 5-3-2 stopped the rot somewhat and the 3 subs plus 4-3-2 formation in another game would’ve been quite praiseworthy, but we were goosed after the first two mins. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, and I think it’s deeper than Mowbray.
  2. If you count making Samba lumber up and down the field to not win Pedersen’s ‘long’ throws as better.
  3. I think the make up of the defence has got away from Mowbray and needs a complete retooling. Raya has played 100 games and his distribution, decision making and command of the six yard box haven’t improved at all. Nyambe has improved but makes too many mistakes and offers zilch going forwards. Lenihan I’d keep as long as we replace Mulgrew who is little more than a special teams kicker. Both him and Rodwell look great strolling out from the back but neither is a proper stopper, bullying forwards and putting their bollocks on the line. Williams and Bell are terrible, made even worse by having Charlie as the last defender when they mess up. All of Mowbrays other issues are flea bites compared to the state of the defence.
  4. Kendall inherited Faz and Keeley, Sam inherited Nelsen and Samba.
  5. The only valid criticism to my mind is the tendency to concede late soft goals - worst in the division at that. That speaks to not recruiting the right mix of defenders, selecting too many ‘converted’ defenders, coaching, concentration and fitness issues. No-one on here knows how fit Dack is right now; he doesn’t look it, isn’t doing the things he was doing earlier in the season, fannied around taking short passes off Rodwell, and I’m not sure Danny Graham touched the ball more than once when he did come on. Dropped is an interpretation based on insufficient facts; our goals against in the last 15 mins is an unarguable fact.
  6. ...but in today’s transfer fees at least a $25 million fee
  7. Came out of Balaji’s speculative betting pot. If he hadn’t paid for Brereton he’d have spent it on fixing a cricket match. He has another, smaller pot for general running costs because that bores him. You heard it here first.
  8. It was good to have a good look at him tonight. He clearly plays a very different way to Graham: comes short for it a lot, turns the defender then runs at them. No surprise his cameos have been poor in a team set up for long diagonals to Graham. Be interesting to see him play in a team set up to leverage what he does.
  9. We won’t get better than midtable with a defence that can’t defend, Reading really should have had four. I can’t see any of the back five featuring in a promotion team. As to the calls to bin Mowbray, I’m going to go out on a limb here and predict a midtable team losing an away game in February won’t precipitate a crisis meeting and firing. But at least two questions were answered tonight: - Why wasn’t he picking Travis earlier? Because he gives the ball away loads. - Why won’t he play Armstrong in his natural position? Because he’s hopeless at being the focal point of the attack. Other questions still remain, especially about Conway/Rothwell.
  10. As much possession as I’ve seen us have, and plenty of it in their half. Didn’t create much but three really good openings hopelessly wasted by Armstrong (2) and Conway. BB has looked our best player. Bell, however, has messed up absolutely everything and for their goal. I’m also not convinced Mulgrew is the centre back to have alongside a shite left back. Get Rothwell on at HT and we’ll win 3-1
  11. I think the bench would beat the first team even though there’s only seven of them
  12. The pass by Carlos Alberto was almost as good as the header and the save
  13. The goal: 2 yards out, slightly left of centre of goal. First half header from corner, 4 yards out dead centre. Raya rooted both times.
  14. Have to say I don’t agree with the sentiment we are just as good as Bristol City. They beat us twice by an aggregate 5-1 and pretty much all their goals were soft, stupid or where we had just given up. They, on the other hand, gave us nothing.
  15. Did exactly the same in the first half from another corner when the guy headed over from about a yard out smack in the middle of the goal.
  16. Nobody did well today. Raya was rooted to his line too often. Williams is a liability at both ends, Bennett a jack of all trades but master of none. I thought their inswinging corners were targeted at the fact neither of our centre halves attack the ball. Reed has his worst game for us, and if Evans had played like Travis then this thread would be ten pages longer. Armstrong was back to his always shoot, always miss mode. Dack and Graham both looked knackered . And the manager made things worse.
  17. I don’t know what Mowbray was thinking putting Williams in. Charlie free kick is needed. Worst kit I’ve ever seen...and Bristol’s isn’t much better.
  18. Just reading Bill Eckersley’s Wiki entry, he played for England in both the Maracana - debut, no less - and El Monumental in Buenos Aires. Surely the only Rover to have done that, and all while a second division player! MGP my arse.
  19. I’m sure I read somewhere that the 2,000 walk one are far from being the same 2000 each week. Which helps explain why the rovers database of buyers could fill Ewood twice over. Plus it’s a waste of time and effort to try and persuade boycotters and never attenders as price is not their barrier.
  20. The flaw is in the first half of your opening sentence. I’d guess the deal is aimed at the much larger group not on your list - the infrequent attenders.
  21. What an enjoyable video, well done that young lady.
  22. I don’t blame him for extending his visit, it was -35C here last week. This is what -35C looks like in case anyone was wondering...
