Agree. Although for me Santa Cruz was better than McCarthy.
What Benni needs to understand is that Sam trying to make him put the effort in was for his own benefit. If only he'd learnt this lesson in his younger days he could have been an exceptional footballer. For some bizarre reason people seem to think strikers fall into two categories. Ones that try and ones that can play. The true greats do both. If Benni had any sort of work ethic he could have been a world beater.
Santa Cruz worked hard for the side and, in my humble opinion, is one of the best target men in the game (when fit). For this reason i will remember him long after Benni McCarthy is a distant memory. When i consider the true greats who played for us in recent years alone (Shearer, Sutton, Hendry, Berg, Jansen, Dunn, Duff, Tugay, Bellamy and Santa Cruz) it just confirms to me how far off that bench mark McCarthy is.
Thanks for 1 good season Benni. But selling you on for 250k less than we paid for you seems pretty reasonable business to me.
