  1. As an aside, is Stoke's 'Naughty Forty' still operational ? Remember them, and saw them at different games, in the late 1990's - they had some real hard cases and head bangers in their ranks.
  2. JDT on Ennis: "Niall got injured the other day for the 21s, it's a player who came into the building with a lot of physical issues," Tomasson said. "He is now injured again and I am disappointed for the boy. "It's difficult for him to get up to speed when you're injured a lot. He can't show what he's capable of doing. We're disappointed that he will probably be out for a couple of weeks." Sorry but just wtf did we sign him!?!?!? Anyhow, think tomorrow we will be well and truly bullied - a magnification of the PNE game and result. Stoke 4, Rovers 1.
  3. Feeling his groin! Think that's at least another 2 weeks out. You'd struggle to make it up with Ennis!
  4. Some interesting names and perceptions. My views (mainly based on those names already mentioned with a handful thrown in for good measure): Hard, uncompromising and able to look after themselves: Knighton, Kendall, Branagan, Speight, Nicky Reid, Speedie, Shearer (no one bullied or dared to bully Alan), Batty, Givet, Stephen Reid Hard, menacing and sometimes went 'looking for it': McNamee, Keeley, Flitcroft, Lucas Neill, Andy Todd, Mokoena WUM supreme: Diouf and he could handle himself WUM: Savage - certainly not hard and needed 'protection' around him of which he had plenty in Hughes' Rovers' team Sadly, we have no one at present who frightens or intimidates the opposition. Any of the above would have Travis for breakfast before spitting him out dismissively.
  5. From Jackson's article on Jan. 2024 transfer window in today's LT: Around £8m of it will go towards wages and salaries, while £900,000 will cover VAT and around £217,000 is marked for ‘repayment of loan’. Additionally, £1.8m will cover agent fees and £572,000 will go towards utilities as part of the day-to-day running of the club. £1.8million on agents' fees !!! Unbelievable (not far short of our season ticket revenue) - think there are some extremely 'soft touches' in our Exec. Management.
  6. Think John Buckley is a 24 year old footballer who is a legend only in his own mind. Not good enough for Rovers and not even good enough for a very poor Sheffield Wednesday rooted to the bottom of the league. Yet another appalling piece of management from Rovers to give him a new 5 year contract just over 1 year ago. IMO, yet another gross error of judgement by Broughton. We really do keep shooting ourselves in the feet - little wonder we average £20million / year losses and are now seemingly borasic. The gravy train just keeps rolling and rolling on for a wide range of Rovers' personnel (playing and other) who, IMO, are quite simply miles away from the standard we need.
  7. Think our hopes and aspirations for January's window will flounder in 'the bleak midwinter' !
  8. We are told Ennis was 'sought after'. I would not think his wage is 'really low'. IMO, factoring in employers' NI which is 13/14%, likely cost to Rovers over 4 years will be in the £2.4million to £3.6million range. At this time, it's looking like big money down the sh1tter.
  9. We lost! They scored more goals then we did. Football is a simple game - too many feckers try to be clever and over complicate it.
  10. Indeed. There's little point in trying to engage in any sort of discussion with him.
  11. Preston North End captain Alan Browne believes Preston North End's experience helped them beat Blackburn Rovers, describing the game as 'men against boys'. Stark reality. They bullied and intimidated us. We had no answer. Every objective Rovers' fan can see this. For the deluded, rose spectacled brigade, keep dreaming.
  12. Sadly, when the injured players return and some not until January onwards, I suspect all hope of making the top 6 will have gone as we will be too far adrift. We will have paid the price for a paper thin and inexperienced squad. This will not change until our owners decide to back JDT. The more likely scenario is he will be gone long before next season kicks off.
  13. There will always be a place in football, no more so than in the Championship, for a physicality and a controlled aggression. We are a small, lightweight side with little aggression and the opposition know this and we get bullied - this must change if we are to be successful when it matters. You know full well what I am talking about concerning potential new coaches who turned us down pre JDT's appointment. If my memory serves me right, you were salivating about at lease one of those appointments. I have better things to do than revisit that thread but I suggest you do. As for your confidence that the club would back JDT if he wanted to change Benson and Lowe see my previous point and start being realistic instead of pretending all is wonderful at Rovers and every decision made is correct. JDT has wanted a proven c/f at the last 3 windows - didn't get one, JDT wanted an experienced c/b in the the summer - didn't get one, JDT wanted the financial backing he was promised on appointment - hasn't got it, JDT wanted to fly to long distance matches to save travel time and impact on players - hasn't happened. I could go on and on and there is enough there to illustrate that JDT does not get what he always wants!
  14. I just don't rate the guy Gav. A goalie coach is a really specialised area where I think it's vital to have garnered the know how and experience by having played at a decent level yourself - Benson has never played professional football. I once spoke with Bobby Mimms at an event about the role of a goalie coach and it was fascinating to hear the level of detail and know how involved. When Raya was here, it seemed to me there was a lack of respect for Benson in the pre match and half time routines. Think two big factors in Raya wanting away were the way Mowbray scapegoated him and also his desire to work with a better goalie coach (the Spanish bloke at Brentford was a big draw). I am really struggling to think of a goalie coach at PL and Championship level who hasn't played the game themselves at a good level? As for set pieces, see the article in Mattyblue's post - I certainly knew I hadn't dreamt it! Can't grumble thanks but the body seems to creak and groan a bit more on a regular basis - hope you are well! Potts might not be a hard man, I didn't saw he was. Whether he's a hard man or not, he certainly bullied us in a way that is unacceptable and worrying. The likes of Jim Brannigan, Glen Keeley, Gary Flitcroft, Andy Todd etc would have had him in the Riverside in no time. As for Benson, and Lowe for that matter, to me, it is one of sporting life's great mysteries how these two remain in post at Ewood. I would suggest it's outside JDT's remit - didn't we 'lose' two potential new managers before JDT was appointed because Waggott / Pasha insisted Benson and Lowe remained in place? I've heard gossip / rumour about their respective abilities, or otherwise, as coaches and it's not complimentary; whether the gossip / rumour is correct or not, I know what I see with my own eyes and I've seen Lowe in 'action' at Brockhall, Academy matches and with the first team and I think it's fair to say, that IMO, he's one of the least charismatic and dynamic and uninspiring coaches I've come across. It might be that I have got it all wrong and these two guys are coaching geniuses, somehow, I don't think I'm wrong!
  15. :Reading today's posts there are two common concensuses: We are too nice Our set plays are crap I have posted consistently in JDT's reign, including last night, that we need at least one, and preferably two, nasty hard bastards in our team. We are too nice and the opposition know it and bully us. Potts sent Moran flying into the hoardings early in the game and I'm pretty sure with an Andy Todd in our team he wouldn't have done or at least he wouldn't have gone on to commit other offences in the game and continue to wind Rovers' players and supporters up as he did. Travis isn't the 'hard man' he likes to think he is and I think a eunuch would show more hardness. Think I'm right in thinking Benson is our set piece coach. For feck's sake, is it little wonder we show such little imagination and score so few goals from set pieces. Benson has never played professional football, started off in Carlisle's community program and is now not only our goalkeeping coach but also our set piece 'specialist'. It simply beggars belief and, IMO, Benson should not be anywhere near such roles in a Championship club and is a man at least 100 fathoms out of his depth.
  16. Incredibly frustrating. We have the best manager since Big Sam, play some terrific football and we get some very good results despite JDT having to manage with one hand tied behind his back. Sadly, I think JDT will soon be off and who can blame him. So dejected tonight.
  17. Not sure wtf has happened with Siggy. Seen him holding his groin a couple of times - carrying injury?
  18. All teams need a nasty hard bastard. Think L'pool, Souey, United, Roy Kean. Even Ipswich have Morsy! We lack that nasty, mean streak and teams know it and bully us.
  19. Could have been booked for either. Wouldn't have committed a second offence with an Andy Todd in the team!
  20. Think there will be lots of goals tonight. Head says we will struggle more defensively than PNE. Heart says we win by the odd goal in a 5 goal thriller.
  21. Used to hate going to Burnden Park - horrible experience. Also remember either either 1973 or 1974 when the Bolton mob en masse arrived early on the train in Blackburn town centre. It was carnage and men against boys as Rovers' fans caught up in it took a real pasting.
  22. The mind really does boggle! Some clown at Ewood probably thinks they'll need to hire more match day staff and they can’t do that! I keep saying it but it's very true, IMO, Ewood is a nous free zone.
  23. Nixon reporting JRC out for 12 weeks. Feck - that is some hammy issue.
