  1. Just a quick FYI - shortly all accounts, new and old will need to accept new T&Cs to continue using BRFCS. You’ll shortly get an on screen message which you must accept to continue posting from your account. Please email admin@brfcs.com if you have any questions.
  2. One of the Holy Trinity, with Dunny and Duffy http://www.polarispublishing.com/book/matt_jansen What do you do when the world is at your feet . . . and then suddenly it isn’t? Matt Jansen had it all. He was young, quick, audaciously skilful and, at the turn of the millennium, regarded as one of the most intelligent attacking talents in English football. His potential seemed boundless. After bursting onto the scene with Carlisle in 1997 and helping his hometown club win promotion, Sir Alex Ferguson had tried to lure him to Old Trafford – but foreseeing only a bench spot at United, Jansen instead opted for Steve Coppell’s Crystal Palace. In 1998, he moved to Blackburn, and after blasting them back to the Premier League he earned a place in Sven Goran-Eriksson’s England squad on the back of a 16-goal season that included a strike in the final of the League Cup, which Blackburn won. At 24 Jansen was widely tipped to be part of England’s squad at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, but Eriksson instead surprised many with his conservative selection of Martin Keown over the rising star; Keown wouldn’t play a single minute at the tournament and England would crash out to ten-man Brazil – but Jansen didn’t see a minute of it. While England battled it out in the Far East, Jansen had taken a holiday to Rome where he was involved a serious traffic accident. He suffered a brain haemorrhage and slipped into a six-day coma. Jansen survived and, astonishingly, he was back playing for Blackburn just four months later. But while his body may have recovered, his mind had not. In the shadow of the accident, he was unable to recapture the instinctive genius or the bullet-proof self-confidence that had previously defined him. This was a hidden breakdown – nothing that could be picked up by a fitness test or fixed on an operating table. As Jansen’s career as an elite footballer slipped away from him, he started to discover more about what had happened to him and how he could recover not only as an athlete, but as a person. This is the story of a career destined for the stratosphere, cruelly snatched away by the vagaries of fate. Brilliant, bold, and at times brutal in its honesty, this powerful tale of shattered dreams and a life rebuilt is a testament to an inspiring, unconquered soul.

  8. Link to Telegraph Story Interesting timing... Talk of differences of opinion with the likes of Ayala and Pickering, and then there’s the ongoing training ground saga. Also strange considering we have constantly been told about how much work (and money) has gone into building the recruitment team over the last few years, not to mention they have the biggest job in recent memory on this summer. If someone would choose to go to Sunderland - consistently the biggest basket case of a club for the last few years, it may suggest not all is as rosy at Ewood and Brockhall as some would have believe. Hope this doesn’t mean the Coventrio is about to become the Coventry Quartet.
  9. Hi all, I first posted a marker on the day that the 'news' broke regarding the plans at Brockhall: that was never our intention but a 'knee jerk' reaction to chuck down a marker as a consequence of a 'curve ball' that nobody saw coming. Since then, we've sat back, debated and regrouped: The reason for this post is we've all had enough (and when I say 'we', I mean us all). Our view is, that post Covid restrictions, BRFC can only go in one of 2 ways: explode in a positive sense or whither on the vine and die. There is no time whatsoever for 'contemplating ones navel', the time to act and plan is NOW! WE are wholeheartedly committed in giving it our absolute best shot, that Blackburn Rovers explode rather than implode! Ideally that would be with our owners on board, along with their significant financial muscle and the many staff employed within the club, that feel similar with regards to BRFC, as we all do. That's a prΓ©cis, from Darwen we have bussed people in to Ewood from pubs for more than 30 years, it always more than 'washes it's face' financially over a season and more often than than not, the surplus funds subsidise a 'burster' of an away trip towards the end of the season. We'd like to take the bull by the horns and start to run busses North, South, East and West from pubs in Lancaster, Fleetwood, Blackpool, Lytham, Preston, Leyland, Chorley, Bury etc etc into Ewood and back from the start of next season. When pubs reopen post Covid, they ought to be crying out for potential new ideas and new clientele. It's a 'no brainer'. So, what we are looking for, is a number of supporters, local to each area, who would be prepared to help us bring this together. It wouldn't be too onerous on anyone, we'd organise the busses etc but need 'foot soldiers' on the ground within their specific locality, to source snd sell the concept to the pubs and be an ongoing liaison and organiser. Will anyone that is interested in playing a part, please PM me with their details. Thanks, enough's enough! WE ARE The Rovers!!!
  10. This is going to be a watershed Summer for the club. Lots of player contracts ending and talk of not spending to replace them so we will have to dip into the U23s, freebie and loan market - not necessarily in that order. Out in the Summer Downing, Bennett, Johnson, Holtby, Evans, Rothwell, Bell, JRC, Douglas, Trybull, Elliott, Harwood-Bellis, Branthwaite, (Mulgrew, Chapman) Into last 12 months Kaminski, Lenihan, Armstrong, Wharton, Davenport, Brereton, Buckley, Dolan, Nyambe (if option exists) 2 years or more Ayala, Gallagher, Dack, Travis Looks like a complete rebuild required. If Mowbray isn’t going to be around to oversee it then he really should go now and a new manager be brought in quickly. Sadly I can see there being nobody lined up when Mowbray does decide he’s had enough and we’ll scrap along with Venus or Johnson, or even Barr in the interim. As always we look weak at CB, have nobody at LB and RB is a further problem. The rest of the team would pick itself with Armstrong or only saleable asset and assumed not to be sticking around for the ambitionless season of yet more stability. Of those out of contract how many would we want to renew? How many will want to stay? No wonder the family silver is being weighed up!
