  1. Has anyone seen any confirmation or detail about this? Lots of headlines about FIFA "scrapping" (and replacing) FFP, but no idea what it might mean for us. I am guessing worst case scenario it will be a handsome pay rise for Waggott, Mowbray and Venus; Best case - pressure washer in on a two day loan to clean a bit of the moss off the stands. Extra £500 per week each into the offers to our out of contract players. Probably, realistically, it is just causing some urgent Board-level discussions regarding a likely required shift in the now standard FFP 'excuse' for Rovers' failure to spend money from our billionaire owners in the transfer market/contract renewals, year after year. Any thoughts?!
  2. We have 7 games left of the season which 3 are home games(in blue) and 4 away games(in red). Saturday 2nd April Coventry 3pm kick off Saturday 9th April Blackpool 3pm kick off Friday 15th April Peterborough United 3 pm kick off Monday 18th April Stoke City 3 pm Kick off Saturday 23th April Preston North End 3pm kick off Saturday 30th April Bournemouth 3 pm Kick off Saturday 7th May Birmingham City 12.30 pm kick off Tactical approach for the next 7 games I think Mowbray need to drop this 3 at the back formation and we need to go back to playing 4-2-3-1 formation and start pressing high which we have stop doing and play of the front foot. The 3 at the back formation isn't working anymore in terms of attacking and defending in terms of clean sheets. Hopefully the international break has come at the right time where we can reset and re focus again with Mowbray accepting he needs to change tactics and the fact back 3 isn't working. So this would be my line up for the Coventry game Kaminski Lenihan Van Hecke Wharton Pickering Travis Rothwell Dolan Dack Giles Brereton How many points will we need for playoff place I think we need 15 points minimum to reach them maybe 1 or 2 points more. But The players and manager need to be switch on for these next 7 games.
  3. Why is scooter sellars against Liverpool in the league Cup not mentioned?
  4. No lessons learned. No possession football. No plan B. No Joe Rothwell. No defence. No defenders signed. No method. No Ryan Nyambe. No positivity. No progress. No idea. You're a nice bloke, you've done a good job but this is as far you will take us. Don't ruin your legacy, do the right thing and step aside. Charlton are relegation fodder so what does that make us? Go.
  5. Read the full article on BRFCS.com https://www.brfcs.com/magazine/articles/sou-yes!-when-rovers-hired-souness/196 I was in my 3rd job out of college at the time, working in IT for the local council and I was manning the admin cabin at Witton for some local sports event where Souness was presenting trophies or something. He came to the cabin with some councillor who left him in my hands, so I offered him a brew ... "Yes please, tea, milk & 2 sugars." I look around for the tea ... "Ah, sorry, we've no tea" "Coffee then, the same please." Off I go to make his brew, only to find ... "... we've no milk ... or sugar" The look on Graham's face was petrifying, I could feel the blood run from my face and I must have looked like I was going to cry! "Never mind", and he wandered off.
  6. The question has to be asked, because ever since the Wigan FA Cup match, when Wigan bullied us and beat us and knocked us out of the cup, we've been on the end of some batterings and been found wanting. Before Wigan, we were on the crest of a wave in the Championship, riding high in 2nd place and looking at possibly going top, but since then it's been a horrible downward slide It seems to me Wigan provided the blueprint for Championship managers scratching their heads at our brilliant run and wondering how to counter it - rough us up with tough tackles, put the boot in where necessary, knock us out of stride and we'll capitulate. We're the nice lads who don't bite back Sheffield United last night was a case in point, they had some bruisers in their team who weren't afraid to make their presence felt. One was sent off (and it could have been more), but they scrambled a winner by making the corner a jostling physical contest in which Kaminski dropped the ball and they lashed home the winner from the rebound. The Luton, Forest, Swansea, and Hull matches were much the same. Then your look at our team. How many warriors do we have? The likes of Lenihan and Wharton etc are hard lads but apart from Travis who do we have in midfield to mix it with the tough nuts? Rothwell and Buckley certainly aren't that type of player while up front none of our forwards would say boo to a goose. In the case of Gallagher, he's as much physical presence as the proverbial passing butterfly So are we falling out of the promotion race not just because we can't score goals but because we're a basically a bunch of "nice" boys who opponents know can be bullied into submission? Are we just too soft?
  7. An ongoing space for anyone to post songs which sum up how we feel in this strangest of recent seasons. Blue Heaven by Public Service Broadcasting My offering: this isn't as good a season as it's ever been in living memory but let's just enjoy it for what it is. A eulogy to the German film star Marlene Dietrich, an outsider who didn't court popularity. We're a little club punching above our weight. Those city lights don't bother me, Blackburn Rovers, we're proud to be. Any other offerings?
  8. Do we think this new fitness coach will make any difference
  9. Why does he look like a competent left back whenever i see him playing for Luton. Yet in all his time at Ewood he rarely looked like he had left league 1 ?
  10. It's looking likely if we get promoted it'll have to be via the Playoffs so who are the other 3 teams you'd want to be up against in the playoffs and any teams you definitely wouldn't want to be up against? For me the 3 i'd want in it with us would be Sheff Utd,QPR and Middlesbrough.3 teams i would be confident of putting up a good fight with. 2 teams i'd rather not come up against are Huddersfield and Forest, just think we'd struggle with them.
  11. So it’s June 1995 – Kenny Dalglish has lead Rovers to the Premier League title, but then decided to step down as first team manager. Jack Walker has entrusted you with the job and given you £15m to make signings – who are you buying? In real life Rovers added just Adam Reed from Darlington and Matty Holmes from West Ham (with Robbie Slater going in the other direction) before the season started. We were strongly linked with a double move for Alan Stubbs and Jason McAteer from Bolton, but that fell through when McAteer decided he wanted to move to Liverpool. Looking back on it, how much different would history have been had Rovers invested that summer and pushed forward? With the budget of £15m (thanks to hindsight), who should we have bought that would have realistically come to Rovers. As regards to European competitions, it might be worth remembering that you could only have 3 non-English players in your match day squad at that time. I’ve done a list below of some possible targets that moved around the mid-90’s – or potential signings that we could have gone for: Gareth Southgate £2.5m Les Ferdinand £6.0m Marc Overmars £6.0m Paul Ince £7.5m Ruel Fox £4.25m Stan Collymore £8.5m Nick Barmby £5.25m Ruud Gullit Free Denis Bergkamp £7.5m Georgi Kinkladze £2.0m Chris Armstrong £4.5m Zinedine Zidane £1.2m Personally I’d have let some of the fringe players like Talia, Gale, Makel and Harford go. I’d have kept the likes of Slater and Atkins for squad players (ones that we let go at the time). I’d have strengthened at the back with an English centre-half – either Southgate at £2.5m or gone for a 20-year-old Sol Campbell from Spurs. I reckon £7m would have done the trick for Sol. In the end, I went for both as the budget allowed it. I’d have been tempted to go for either Overmars or Bergkamp at the prices above, but the English player rule in the Champions League would put me off them. I always quite liked Ruel Fox as a winger who could provide cover on either flank – so I’d have gone for him at £4.25m. Probably the ultimate hindsight, but we were interested in him in the mid-90’s, but Zidane was reportedly available for £1.2m – so he’s my foreign signing. In (£14.95m) Sol Campbell (20) - £7m Gareth Southgate (24) - £2.5m Ruel Fox (27) - £4.25m Zinedine Zidane (22) - £1.2m Out: Frank Talia Tony Gale Lee Makel Paul Harford
  12. As we all probably know the good old masters football is returning with regional tournaments starting next year. If you have a r recollection of the old tournaments 2003 - 2011 rovers never did well so hopefully our modern veterans can do better. if they stick to the old format that sees 8 teams compete in groups of 4 which will likely be man United, Man City, Liverpool, Everton, rovers, Bolton, Burnley, and between Wigan, Preston and blackpool for the last spot, after not getting round to attending the old tournaments I’m pleased myself that I will get the chance again, hopefully being a yearly thing. who would be in your rovers squad ? Must be 35+ 6 a side three subs also take into account they need to be a fit as poss GK friedel DEF hendry DEF samba MID dunn MID tugay ST Jansen subs nelsen, MGP, Johnson
  13. Just a heads up to anyone who buys match worn shirts: A website I’ve previously bought from and trusted have now started buying replica shirts from eBay and then putting them on their own website as match worn. One shirt was bought that has tags still on it and yet now that’s listed as match worn (?) and even more far-fetched is that they’ve included the story that the Holtby shirt was given to a fan in the crowd at a game even though they have literally bought from eBay where the eBay sellers description states it’s a club shop replica. Just don’t want anyone out there to spend their hard earned cash on something that’s not the real thing!
  14. Hi, New to the forum. Bit of a blow in I so expect some flak and maybe deservedly so!😃 I was an Irish child supporter of Rovers from the early 90s. Went to a game in 1993 before the new stadium was built and was at the famous Blackburn v Newcastle game in 1995. Fell out of love with football in the early 2000s. My father passed away recently and have been nostalgic for the old times we shared together. I started supporting Rovers as a 10 year old in 1992 seeing Alan Shearer bang in the goals. The kit was very distinctive as well. The blue and white halves! Upon my request my father wrote to the club in spring of 1993 and said we would be coming over for a game. I am 90% sure it was Julie in the office who wrote back saying call in when we arrive. So months later that's what we did. We got a great tour of the old Nuttall Street Stand and the oak panelled boardroom. Then we were told to come back the next day. We were brought up the stairs to the bar where the players were having their pre match meal! Got to meet all the players including Shearer . Kenny was not there but still! Kevin Moran the captain sat with us and we talked about Ireland. It was brilliant! It was such a homely club and didnt expect to meet any players! I thought they would be totally separate from fans. I was last at a game in 2003 in the league cup. Great to see the Rovers doing well this season. I recently read John Dueren's excellent book called 'Rovers Revolution'. I just wish he had gone and explored in more detail the 1995/1996 season. I still can't get my head around the decline of Blackburn. I simply cannot understand why Dalglish stepped aside weeks after the Title win. Blackburn in the Champions League, lots of money to buy big names, the reputation of the club at an all time high, new stadium etc.. To step aside was bizarre. He could have built on his success and continued to challenge for honours. Then Ray Harford took over and don;t want to speak ill of him but was an utter disaster. I simply am bewildered how he let Slater, Batty and Atkins go and brought in the likes of Matty Holmes! I mean Matty Holmes! Bohinen was acceptable and did well initially but the club had the resources and wasted them. In a way I am more fascinated by the 1995/96 that the previous season as it really was disastrously run and struggle to understand how this was allowed to happen. What are Rovers fans thoughts now looking back? I know the true fans will say this is where he club has always been and the 3 glory seasons were an outlier in their history but I still wonder what might have and should have been. Apologies for the long winded post.

  16. Heard Rovers shirt sponsor from Wednesday is Totally wicked, not sure what the crack is with recoverite?
  17. Alan Nixon has today been spouting more bollocks in his daily rag regarding Ash Phillips, our 16 year old defensive superstar in the making. I would like to let everyone be aware that he has been part of 'the poison' that has affixed itself to Blackburn Rovers during the past 11 years. Take bugger all notice of anything that he spouts, he's nothing but an unsettling influence on BRFC as a club and its' supporters! As Scousers ostracised The Sun, Blackburn Rovers should ostracise Alan Nixon.
  18. Hi all forgive me if this is a topic that’s been covered. I was wondered which kits have been our worst over the years. I think these are particularly horrible myself
  19. So we're one of the few clubs out there that have had the same shirt design since the beginning. It has been famously copied many times and is absolutely iconic. Over the years however, there have been different variations, the blue and white have changed sides as well as the sleeves changing slightly. Which is your favourite design then? My choice is - Home: 1996 -1998 Away: 1993 - 1995
  20. Joe Rothwell seems to be the one player who nobody can agree on, I think Harry Chapman seems to fall into the category too, but when it comes to Rothwell, you hear so many contrasting opinions on him. Some talk about his ability on the ball, but others have been frustrated with his final product too. What do you think? Is he a bit of a myth or is the hype real? Should he be starting games in 2020/21 or do you believe he's better off the bench?
  21. So a promised change of approach, a few more ballers in the door and potentially a few more to come. What formation would people like to see this season? To keep us on track, lets just discuss players who have signed or are on trial. No potential signings as things can go dream team pretty quickly. Be as elaborate as you like, bring tactics into it too if you know a bit. Can we please not turn this into a moanfest? If you want to moan, keep scrollin! We know we need a keeper and center half. Everybody to a man or woman knows this. Here are 3 potential formations. I think for any of them to work we need to drastically improve our deliveries in the final 3rd. Hopefully Downing can go some way to improving this. We were so wasteful last season from dangerous positions. Bell and Armstrong the worst offenders. I know he has divided opinion as well, but I'm actually a bit excited about having someone in the middle like Adam who is comfortable on the ball and gets it moving forward. 3-5-2 Leutwiler Mulgrew Lenihan Williams Nyambe Adam Bell Johnson Travis Dack Graham 4-2-3-1 Leutwiler Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell Travis Johnson Rothwell Dack Downing Graham 4-3-3 Leutwiler Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell Adam Johnson Downing Dack Rothwell Armstrong 4-4-2 Leutwiler Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell Rothwell Travis Adam Downing Armstrong Graham
  22. Me and my lad, being completely objective came up with this 🤣. I think that'll be the top six Rovers probably 3rd or 4th, could live with 100 points though! For a bit of fun lets see what everyone else gets then we can take an average league position. https://thefishy.co.uk/calculator1.php
  23. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19823058.blackburn-rovers-q-contracts-transfers-team-prospects/ Not sure if this has been linked elsewhere, its finished now, but some interesting content on current goings on down at Ewood.
