    Zak Gilsenan

I’ve just read on Facebook that he’s signed for our academy after joining from Liverpool. He’s been tagged as the Irish Messi and was at Barca before joining Liverpool. Anyone else heard anything about him joining? He’s still only 15 so definitely one for the future but he was hyped up as some sort of Wonderkid a few years ago.
  2. This is probably worth a poll as it represents a huge shift in how people can watch Rovers. Rough estimates suggest about 10 of the 23 HOME games will not be at 3pm on a Saturday and so will be available for free on the Red-Button. That is an unprecedented number of 'Live on SKY' games for Rovers fans. Mr Waggott was in the LT flagging it up as a concern, and he claims he's always looking for feedback from supporter groups (and this forum is one) so if would be remiss of us not to oblige him. So, basically, will the Red-Button have any impact on whether you buy a Season-Ticket next season? The poll is anonymous. Mods - could you pin-it please?

  4. Guardian article on Ben Thornley today, a Manu youngster in the early 90's. Its claimed that he was the best of his generation---better than Giggs or Scholes or Beckham. His career was ended by an horrendous tackle by Marker in a reserve game at Ewood Park. His knee was apparently utterly shattered and he never recovered. He did sue Rovers and Marker later and received compensation. Don't remember hearing about this at the time. I remember that generally Marker was an excellent back-up in midfield. When we played Spurs at White Hart Lane they were totally confident of winning easily as we our usual central midfielders were out with injury. In fact, Marker and Atkins ran the game and we won comfortably! However, Marker was a dirty sod and ended Ardilles' season when he played against us for Plymouth. Can't give a link but its easily found on the Guardian site.

Anyone know where he is? Pretty sure he hasn't been in the dugout for our last 2 or 3 games.
  6. As I've seen a few posts relating to this in the match thread, rather than taking that too much off topic, I thought the subject deserved its own thread (even if it is a little late as the season is well underway)..... Personally, whilst fundamentally, there isn't much to fear in this division, I think any talk of promotion THIS SEASON is unrealistic. While I'd hope that would be the ultimate goal for the club, to be honest, with the squad we have, I think a mid table finish would be about par for the course this term. Mostly because, at the bottom of the table there are some poor sides that already look like they could potentially be getting cut adrift. Anyhow, I'd be interested to hear everyone else's views on the subject!

    Burnley in bother.

Are they down? Personally I think dyche will do enough to save them. What do you think?
  10. It would seem that the nobbers are turning against their ageing, billionaire owner Trevor Hemmings. The general feeling seems to be that having bought the club cheaply from the fans (by threatening administration if shareholders didn't accept 5p per share), Hemmings used the club for his own ends (tax purposes, soft loans), used the fans to help get planning permission for a training ground and houses - now houses to be built, training ground not so certain). It seems clear that Hemmings is getting ready to sell the club, but the talk is he wants £70m+ for it. We are all too aware what can happen when results deteriorate as a direct result of the owners of a football club. What next for Pne ? Could be interesting.

    Bell vs Williams

Because of Williams' injury , Bell finally got the run of starts that a few of us had been waiting eagerly for. Now that Williams back to full fitness, do you think that Bell has done enough to keep his place? I don't go to games so I know in the eyes of some that precludes me from having an opinion on it. Fair enough, to a degree, but regular game-goers, what's your take on it? However, going on the games I've seen online, I think Bell has done enough to warrant his continued presence in the starting 11. I thought he looked a threat when he was pushed further up the field after Williams came on. My caveat here is that I didn't see a kick of the Bristol City capitulation, so I honestly don't know how he performed there.
  13. Might be a good time, for those who use social media, to offer messages of encouragement to Gladwin. He certainly had the right qualities and skills at one point. If he could find his way back then he might be another welcome addition to the first team. I'm sure he gets loads of encouragement from TM and his staff but haven't seen much in the form of encouragement from Rovers' supporters. If he and Rodwell could be rehabilitated, it would make for a powerful team. Just a thought.
  14. I'm thinking about buying this shirt but it has the gold writing underneath it, "PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS". Was this shirt worn the season after we won the league?? Is it a real shirt? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323437626520

  17. Everybody is very opinionated on here. People are quick to give opinions and not so quick to admit they were wrong. Its now time to own up to opinions you had which have been proven to be incorrect. I'n recent times, my two biggies are:- * Raya will not be good enough to be a number one. We'd have been better keeping Simon Eastwood. * Downing's signing is a knee jerk reaction and will be of no benefit to this club whatsoever. Anyone else want to confess?

    A positive outlook

Given the changes ,due to injuries and a thin squad,a really great result. If additions come in and everyone is fit there are some difficult decisions. On the positive side we ought to be able to put out a strong bench, which for me is always an indicator of a good side. Most folk looking at todays selection and bench would think we were in trouble, but the effort and management got us through. Things can only improve with more availability but it will still take a fair number of games to establish a definite starting eleven. The back four just need to stay healthy and Williams is good cover. Midfield wise I suppose it's horses for courses, but it will be good to have competition. Tactics will be crucial as there are any numbert of ways to approach a game. Weseem to be a positive work in progress, and whilst no doubt there will be setbacks,it's difficult to see a starting eleven and bench as threadbare as today at 2 o clock.. The management seems to know what it's doing though, and the future looks ok. it's certainly going to be interesting, given the wide variety of opinions regarding crucial positions and tactics. What a great result today!

    A tricky jigsaw

Early days, some decent performances, but a lot of questions posed. Defensively a settled back 4 ok so far but little quality for back up. Organisation of midfiel/attack much more complicated and imo will take 10 or more games to sort, undoubtedly with some experimentation in training and games. How Mowbray sees the style and relevant make up will obviously not be to everyones liking as can be seen from the very varied opinions on here as to who to play and where. The limited resources will dictate to some extent as injuries happen. Guys like Smallwood have been criticised lately yet he was a game changer when he arrived. His distribution is poor but he contributes in a different way. Palmer talented but possibly a luxury, decent bench material at his point imo. It will take a fair few games for the likes of Travis,Rothwell,Bennett,Bell,Evans and others to nail down a position and keep it. Mowbrays thoughts , injuries, results, performances, and lady luck are the moving parts for a while. Let's all go to see the optimist for a while and enjoy a positive ride till the picture unfolds a bit more.
  25. By popular demand, here's a new thread to discuss potential incomings and outgoings this summer. Play nicely!
