The Chippendale family came from Waddington in Yorkshire when Harry senior obtained work as an overlooker in a cotton mill. One of his boys, Peter, played for Accrington and Harry junior also had to travel north to start his football at Nelson. Despite his stocky build he could fly and had a strike rate, unusual for wingers of the day. He brought zest and flair to the Rovers right wing for five seasons before he joined a colony of ex-Rovers at New Brighton. He worked for forty-five years at the Brookhouse Mill, and was weaving manager when he retired in January 1927. He also became a linesman in the Football League. At the time of his death he was living in Ramsgreave Road.
