    Summary

Known as "Little" Campbell he was one of a trio of Partick players shipped in to upgrade the side with proven cohesion during a depressing time at the club. He was not the most successful of the three but when played in tandem with his compatriot Wilkie his dash and desire brought his praise. His career was not aided by a long spell in the Manchester Hydrophobic Unit to cure head injuries caused by a kick on the jaw. Returning to Scotland he won four cup winners' medals with Rangers where he was described as a "magnificent dribbler, dodger and shot". An accomplished tap boot dancer he gave concerts throughout Lancashire. There are signs that his departure north was not only caused by footballing pressures. Two months before he was in court on an affiliation order and although he denied paternity he was ordered to pay four shillings a week for fourteen years. In later life he became a ship’s steward but died young from tuberculosis.
