    Summary

Diouf left his homeland at the age of 19 to join Molde in Norway, where he joined two countrymen in Pape Pate Diouf and Madiou Konate. This helped him settle easily into life so far away from his birthplace and he was soon joined by his younger brother, Mame Mbar Diouf. He quickly made a reputation for himself as a goal scorer and he and Pape Diouf contributed many goals to Molde’s tally. In July 2009 he was signed by Manchester United but allowed to see out the year with Molde. Introduced gradually as a substitute by United it became obvious that his appearances, and development, would be restricted and so he was made available for loan. The friendship of Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce plus the fact that El Hadji Diouf had been acting as mentor to the young man when he arrived in Manchester, meant that a move to Blackburn was a logical step. Although he started well, with a League Cup hat trick, it became apparent that he had much to learn in terms of consistency and steadiness in front of goal. Although his pace was useful he simply was too unpredictable to hold a regular spot. He proved himself in Germany and after watching his progress Mark Hughes signed him for Stoke City, where he proved a success, scoring freely.
