    Summary

Although born in Scotland Gallagher was brought to Blackburn as a young child and grew up in the Shadsworth district, one the High Croft council estate. A rangy left sided player, able to play wide or upfront he made his first impact with a FA Youth Cup hat trick against Exeter. Before the end of the season he had obtained a hat trick for the reserves at Bradford and another in the final of the national under 19 competition. Sandwiched between was a first team debut when he came on as substitute in the home victory over the champions Arsenal and an appearance for the Scottish under 21side. He was fast tracked into the full Scottish side and started to appear more regularly with the Rovers but even though he proved to be a goal threat he was unable to hold down a regular place. After signing for Leicester City he spent much time out on loan and with Preston he became the first English League player to play 100 games on loan for one club.
