  1. Does it really matter what they are paid - we're talking about millions of pounds in turnover - does anyone give a sh1t if Williams and Flinn are earning an extra fifty grand?
  2. what a load of sh1te - Dickov wasn't even playing tonight and hes already being made the scapegoat. He is by far and away the best value for money signing that anyone got last summer and all this @#/? about bringing Tristan in but perhaps not Carew or maybe Mccarthy - be greatful that we got a striker scoring 7 prem goals for £150 000.
  3. I hate this attitude that just beause Savage wants to leave the mighty Birmingham then he must have been tapped up. Maybe he does just want more money - so what? He wouldn't be the first he won't be the last. Maybe he just wants one more pay day so just get on with it and shut up.
  4. Don't you feel ashamed by Sullivan - he seems to take a bid for a Birmingham player as a personal insult but surely that is his job? All this rubbish about Hughes being naive and Bowen bitter seems quite petty and childish to me. Add to that Karen Brady's 'joke' that Savage should think twice before joining 'Welshpool' which just isn't very funny just fankly embarrasing. I think Hughes and the board have acted in the best way possible since Birmingham's comments and you can be certain that if Bruce and Sullivan had said what they said while Souness was here that Graeme would have come out guns blazing ready to fight Bruce to the death - which he sooo would have won - but actually would have done no good in the end.
  5. Totally agree with Brad being at fault for two goals Too slow for the first one and a combination of poor organisation (from him) and poor positioning and a bloody good strike lead to the second. IMO he has been a bit hot and cold this season
  6. Don't think we shuold be getting too carried away... but anyway, did anyone else notice that Jansen, Cole and Yorke all scored yesterday. All Souness cast-offs - seemed ironic to me, but Cole did seem to have taken something from Souness (did you see that punch?)
  7. WTF! We beat off clubs (12 in Dickovs case) to complete the signings of Dickov, Ferguson, Cole and Emerton and each cited the manager as reasons for coming.
  8. Cole paid back his fee in scoring the winner in the Worthington Cup, Ferguson is our captain and best midfielder but he is a bit unproven although he is now starting to shine and Grabbi was a mistake but his only real big one. He obviously did think about what to spend that £21m on and he has had some undeniable succesess in Stead, Tugay, Friedal and Neill and I for one will miss him. It'll be hard if we recruit a placid manager in the Wenger - "I didn't see it" mould, after four years of Souey passion.
  9. Sven's job is looking a bit shaky... (two posts above beat me to it!)
  10. The People said last week that De Pedro might be heading home after one of the shortest stays ever in football... but the transfer window has gone now so i guess it was crap.
  11. He was saying hello to the side he won the treble with!!! Its okay to be frustrated with Yorke, god knows every Rovers fan has, but he did well today and saying hi to some old friends doesn't warrant criticism
  12. I really don't understand this obsession with Gallagher. He played okay for a bit last season and he ran alot but without much substance. Yorke did really well when he came on, he won free kicks and held the ball up. Whenever we don't play well there is this outcry for Gallagher and Jansen to be recalled which I'm afraid is based on nothing but nostalgia. To the game - we already look twice the team we did last year and if decisions had gone our way we would have 5 points from 4 games, and presuming that Arsenal go unbeaten - or very close to - for the rest of the season that would effectively (against our rivals) be 5 points from 3 games. It hasn't gone that way but its looking up for Rovers
  13. He is wearing 43 in the picture...!
  14. I can see what Souness is trying to do with making us harder to beat but I don't think it has occured to him that making the team more defensive might have the opposite effect - inviting teams on to us. When we played Duff on the left and Gilly/Dunn/Thommo on the right this made Neill and Gresko actually look quite decent defenders because teams weren't coming onto our rather fragile and slow central defence. IMO, there is no use in playing 'versatile' - and they can't be called versatile if they are crap in their second posistion (Emerton and Matteo, you you know who you are...) - in posistions where, at best, they will contain. The reason we beat Arsenal twice and had such a good season in 01/02 was a) Friedal and then b. attacking football and not sitting back. Our defence was pretty poor then but we simply didnt defend us much as we do at the moment With that in mind my midfield would be... Thommo Ferguson Flitcroft Tugay Pedersen And I would give Thommo and MGP licence to push on with Flitty sitting deep - almost like when Man U play Giggs and Scholes in free role.
  15. I agree, in three/four years hopefully the core of our team will be Stead McEverley, Ferguson and Gamst Pederson, supported by Douglas and Gally. All are young (-ish in Fergie's case) and promising and if we can just build (i.e. stay in Prem) in the next couple of years we should have quite a team.
  16. ...thats Norweigan for Totenham
  17. With Coleman being the only Prem manager willing to pay Cole's huggggge wages and then preventing us from playing a 1m loyalty payment after hijacking McBride which meant we went for Stead, I trust Mr. Coleman whole heartedly...
  18. I don't think it was just the result that D'Urso changed he seems to have ultered the reaction to Souness. At 2-2 we were coming back with a well earned draw, plently of positives and momentum - in the shape of the second half performance - going into the nightmare of the next two games. However three slices of bad luck - 1. Dickov penalty, 2. Svensons (sp) mis-hit slice, 3. Beattie penalty - awoke the Souness out camp. In two games he has changed the direction of the game and if he doesn't quite have the starting XI yet - so what? Neither does the likes of Mourinio and a whole host of other managers and they dont have the players missing that we do. I think we already look a better team than last year and there is certainly more to come - signings, injuries etc - but i think a majority of people on this MB have pre judgements on players - Emerton - He produced more chances than any - any - midfielder last season and he was in the top five tables for assists. There were times last year when he was awful but there were also times when he was excellant so people who constantly say "Emerton wasn't awful today" are, in my opinion, jumping on a bandwagon. Flitcroft Along with Stead and - people forget - Amoruso the reason we stayed up at the back end of last year. I especially remember Fulham when he was stuck on the right wing but still instrumental and I always feel we play better with him as captain. Ferguson This is going to upset a lot of people but I don't see the player we were building him up as. He was shocking when he arrived and started playing better-than-shocking and sometimes well at the time of his injury. He played okay yesterday and he took his goal very well but was constantly over-shadowed by Tugay, hardly touched the ball in the first half and was pretty petulant when he should have got sent off. Jansen I love him just as much as the next Rover for what he did in division one and how unlucky he has been. However, whenever our strikers miss chances and/or we loose "where is Matt Jansen" is not the answer...
  19. I think someone has got a little crush...
  20. There's so much news about our defence, our attack needs strengthening as much with the lacklusture Cole and Yorke being a disapointment until the last game at Spurs! Several failures have graced Blackburns striking team, Corrado Grabbi and Kevin Davies are the most recent disasters. Not to mention letting James Beattie go as part of the Davies deal (that has to be the worst ever deal in the history of the Premiership) Anyone who has news on realistic targets to partner hopefully a fit Jansen next season, feel free to reply

    Strikers

After everyones hysteria about which defenders are coming to Ewood Park, surely we need a striker just as badly. Yorke has play okay this season but his awful body language only surpassed by Coles has been frustrating at the best of times. There is no doubt that if we had been lucky enough to have a fit Matt Jansen this season our fabulous finish would have been even better. There seems to be a curse on Rovers strikers; Kevin Davies although a good player when he came, left as a failure. The criminal thing about that deal is not the 6million lost, the part exchange with James Beattie is perhaps the worst deal in the history of the Premiership. Can anyone think of worse? Corrado Grabbi was supposed to be the next big thing to come out of Italy and the 7mill we spend on him is perhaps the second worse deal in the clubs history after Kevin Davies! So who should Rovers acquire this transfer window? Kevin Philips has been mentioned which would be a good deal, if we could get him for under 2mill, in my opinion. Personally Marvin Haywoood from Nott Forest or Kanu from Arsenal would be my choices if we could get them at reasonable prices. Anyone else heard any stikers linked with the mighty Rovers, feel free to respond.
