  1. Rooney should not be included in the squad, simple as that. We are not a one man team. He's a world class player and a match winner but so are Lampard, Gerrard, Joe Cole, Beckham, Owen and John Terry. One thing we MUST not do, which is really worrying me at the moment, is play another player in Rooney's role. A lot of people seem to be saying Gerrard or Cole should do it. This will be suicidal in my opinion, as it will disrupt the balance of the side and put immense pressure on whoever is asked to do it. If Owen is fit, it should be him and Crouch up front and we should play to the strengths of that combination with balls in behind, flick ons and knock downs for the midfield to come on to. We shouldn't try to put a square peg in the round hole left by Rooney. Rooney didnt score in any of the qualification games and in the friendly against Argentina he scored a scuffed tap in but ultimately it was the presence of Crouch which allowed us to win the game. We'll miss him but we can still do well without him.
  2. I would say we only need 3 more points to see off Newcastle. They'll beat West Brom but I can't see them getting anything at Big Club or against Chelsea without their main man up front. That is the bare minimum but I think we'll comfortably get 6th place by at least 5 points by the end of the season. We'll get 4 points from these next two games, we'll do Chelsea in revenge for last season and we'll beat Man City. It's more than in our hands and with born winners like Hughes and Bellamy in our ranks, we won't let it slip! COME ON YOU BLUES!
  3. My choice has always been Steve McClaren and it still is. I would make a guess that he's got the job already and the FA are keeping quiet about it so as not to take Middlesbrough's and McClaren's mind away from their involvement in the FA and UEFA Cup. How else do you explain Bolton's, Charlton's and City's ###### poor form of late whereas Boro have been awesome. The other three are all sweating as to whether they'll get it or not but McClaren knows he's already got it so is not feeling the pressure. If you watched his performance in the interview after they beat Charlton in the cup, he was like a politician in the way he handled the questions so he definitely has something to hide! One other manager who has never been mentioned at all though is Alan Pardew. He's currently the highest placed English manager in the league and has done wonders with West Ham this year, made some top signings and he plays very exciting, attractive football. I'd sooner have him as manager over Allardyce, Curbishley or Pearce any day of the week. Ultimately though, McClaren has already got the job, mark my words and it will be announced after the UEFA Cup final.
  4. Shillito 2 Id rather have 15,000 hardcore support than 5,000 extra silent ones. The second half atmosphere was the worst I've seen this season today. I believe you're wrong about the crowd not getting us points. We helped a lot against United for example by riling Rio and getting him sent off and we helped the boys through to secure the 1-0 against Arsenal. Against Middlesbrough it was also a superb atmosphere second half and even though we went down to 10 men we still won the game. So I believe you're wrong although the support was poor today I agree. 3 MGP was no worse than Bentley, Bellamy, Savage, Gray or Dickov today so I don't know why you're on his back. His set piece delivery is superb, he's good in the air and has scored 9 goals from midfield in the league this season. No mean feat and he is one of the reasons why we're in the position we're in. So get off his back.
  5. Just seen the offside decision and its a joke. The decision should be made WHEN THE BALL IS PLAYED THROUGH. Fowler chests the balls towards Cisse not Morientes so he should be flagged offside straightaway. He then makes a play for the ball but leaves it, wrongfooting the Rovers defence and allowing Liverpool a pretty simple goal. I don't believe all this conspiracy theory stuff, its just vague rules and inept refereeing again. To be fair though, we got lucky when Cisse ONSIDE misses the chance to score and then somehow Friedel got lucky and the ball bounced onto the bar. I don't believe we did enough to score ourselves today, the only proper chance we had was Robbie Savage and he can't kick the ball properly with his right foot never mind his left. Very dissapointed with Liverpool's second half performance. They like Chelsea have so many awesome attacking players but only attack teams when they have to. Their foreign managers are so cautious it doesnt make for exciting football at all, the second half was so dull and slow because of Liverpool's timewasting tactics. Both Liverpool and Chelsea have the ability and the players to completely dominate teams and play them off the park but its very rare it happens unless they are forced to. I'd sooner pay to watch United or Arsenal anyday. Still with 3 wins out of 4 against those two and 0 out of 3 against Liverpool and Chelsea, maybe Benitez was right to be cautious today. This is how far we have come when some of the best teams in Europe show this level of respect against us. I'm dissapointed we're out of the running for Champions League but we're only one point behind where I thought we'd be after these last three games anyway. I thought we'd beat Wigan but lose against Portsmouth and Liverpool. Fair play to Tottenham though as they beat Man City and by all accounts played superbly yesterday. I'm confident we can get two more wins and one draw this season which should secure that 6th spot! COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
  6. Agree with the Craig Bentley David Bellamy combo and the Tug Man in midfield. The Scouse Scruff and the Lanky Fin love it in the air so get in down ont' deck, down t'channels and past their average full backs. Super Rob can get into Neversmiles Gerrard and Greasy Face Alonso and stop the balls up to Stork Legs. We're due a home win against the Stinkin Stealin Scousers and I believe we'll win this one 3-2 with a Pedersen opener by means of set piece, a Crouch leveller by means of impossible to stop header from corner, a second by means of low angled Bellamy finish, a second equaliser by means of Gerrard 30 yard blockbuster and a winner by means of an off the bench Kuqi bundler sending the Blackburn end WILD WILD WILD! COME ON YOU BLUES!
  7. If Sam Allardyce gets the England job I'm leaving the country. Give it Steve McLaren. He knows the current England set up and the players inside out. He's worked with the best (Fergie and Man U) he's English, has as much if not more experience as any of the other candidates and would be able to command respect from the top players. He may not be doing especially well for Middlesbrough in the league right now but he's awesome in knock out football and we're going to win the World Cup anyway so he'll be under no pressure to acheive great things as we'll have already done it.
  8. Think 4th -7th will be between Arsenal, Tottenham, Rovers and Bolton. Looking at the fixtures it will be extremely tight so I think Arsenal's goal difference and Bolton's games in hand will prove valuable, so its either of those two for 4th i think. Spuds have a difficult run in and I think they'll slip down to 7th with Rovers just edging into 6th place. There'll only be about 3 or 4 points between all four clubs though so anything could happen! COME ON YOU BLUES!!
  9. Great to see a team create lots of chances at Ewood for a change, Villa caused us more problems in 10 minutes than Arsenal did in a whole game! All this Villa deserved to win is crap though. Rovers scored 2 goals, Villa scored 0. Poor finishing will lose you a game just as much as poor defending will and Baros is a poor finisher. If O'Leary prefers to have Angel on the bench, Luke Moore out wide not involved and Kevin Philips playing slightly deeper, thats his problem and its ultimately what cost them the game. Villa stopped Rovers playing first half superbly. Like against Spurs we tried to play the ball down the channels but Villa always had 1 player pressing the ball and 2 backing up. With Bentley in the middle, we were too lightweight and also missed Tugay who would have kept the ball much better and stopped Villa attacks being created so quickly. Hughes countered this by putting Reid central and we were much better from that point on. Second half I thought we played well, took the game to them and this pressure ultimately led to the goals even though we were still exposed at the back a few times. Like I said before, its not our fault that O'Leary can't recognise he has three better finishers than Baros! O'Leary is seriously underacheiving at Villa and not getting the best out of his players. Barry, Davis, Mellberg, Phillips, Hendrie, Moore, Angel and Samuel would all be a welcome addition to our squad yet their current team is lower mid table and we are pushing for Champions League. Can't see us not getting at least 6th place now and back to three points behind the Spuds with lots of winnable games to come. COME ON YOU BLUES!! (btw how can anyone criticise Pedersen? the guy is a delight to watch, that little chip over the wall for the free kick was awesome and even he couldnt hide his satisfaction chuckling to himself as he went to take the corner! He also played a major part in both goals with a great corner some good passing for the second)
  10. Superb performance today against the Yids, only let down by a bit of bad luck, we dominated the rest of the game after we went 1-0 down against a great Spurs side. Both teams played superb passing attacking football and great to see the pundits (esp. Andy Gray) drooling over Rovers for a change!! The game was all about Robbie Keane and Craig Bellamy, both bang in form, creating and scoring all the goals. What swung the games Tottenham's way was a bit of luck with the decisions. 4th place is not out of reach just yet with the games we have remaining, we just have to believe we can do it!! Its still there to be fought for and if the players can put in the kind of effort and show the desire we've seen against Tottenham and Arsenal then we'll definitely still be in the hunt come May. Bellamy is an awesome player but to say we'd be nothing without him is a slur on what the team have acheived so far this season. In actual fact, up until the Sunderland game, Bellamy hadn't actually scored any match winning goals, he'd only scored goals late on in games with the game already won, for example against Charlton and Wigan. It was Pedersen, Kuqi and Dickov who propelled us into the top 10 with the great run of form around Christmas. The team deserve a lot more credit from the goldfish memories on here (remember the 6 goals in the two wins against United anyone? Bellamy neither scored or created any!) We have an awesome team, an awesome squad, an awesome manager and we're on the way to Europe!!! COME ON YOU BLUES!!
  11. Just want to say a massive thankyou to Mark Hughes and his boys for making football at Ewood Park awesome to watch once again! You know that the players are going to put everything into winning games unlike under that whinging ego-driven Scotsman. The energy levels and commitment shown by the players right now is superb! I thought Peter did OK yesterday, its difficult to come on that early into a game against a team with Arsenal's pedigree and the only mistakes he made were due to inexperience, such as dwelling on the ball too long at times. Apart from that he's a player with massive potential, a classy winger who loves to get crosses into the danger area and we haven't had that kind of a player since the Chelsea rent boy. One thing that's puzzling me though is why Pongolle is being preferred to David Bentley. He signs a permanent deal then scores a hat-trick against United and then he's forced out of the team for a loan signing. I think SFP would be a good replacement for Bellamy if he's not fit but we need something different if he is. From what i've seen against Sunderland and Arsenal, Bentley has a better first touch and more desire to score goals than SFP. Often Bellamy had the ball out wide yesterday in good positions to cross but SFP would be jogging casually into the box. We need players who want to play for this club with more desire, beating defenders to the ball to score goals which Bentley did for his first two against United. Apart from that all is well and if we can avoid defeat against Spurs next week, we can make a real push for 4th place considering the games we have coming up after that. Wigan scored two there t'other week so I don't see why we can't do the same with Bellamy in the form he is. COME ON YOU BLUES!!
  12. Decent performance yesterday in the sunsheeeeeeeiiiiiine, was particularly impressed with my man Andy Taylor at right back, to say he is left footed and obviously out of position, it was an impressive performance! Pretty solid in defence, good in the air and did well going forward, few neat touches and tricks as well as a superbly flighted ball down the right wing to Dickov who then tripped over the ball! Another one to watch is Sergio Peter who showed some potential with his fast tricky running. Could be a star in the making. Bellamy showed his class and was loving the Kuq-meister who looks pretty skilful for a big guy, and his goal was superb!
  13. My take on the game was there was nothing in it first half, City probably just edged it as they kept the ball slightly better and looked dangerous up until the final third but they were never going to cause us problems to our awesome defence without SWP on top form. Second half Rovers definitely tried their best to force the game but City seemed to be content with a point and sat back. Remember seeing Sibierski at one point in the left back position when he was supposed to be up front, this says it all really. Just because we play 4-5-1 doesn't mean we're being boring. Stuart Pearce said that we just put 10 men behind the ball. It was totally the other way round second half I think. We've seen against Norwich and Southamton that if teams try to go for it against us we can get lots of players foward like Emerton, MGP and Reid who all like to run at opposition defences. However if teams like City and Palace come to Ewood with no intention of making a serious effort to score then we find it hard to break them down. This would be the same for any team, even the likes of Man Utd find this difficult to play against even when they are playing 442 with Van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Scholes, Ronaldo and Giggs playing!! However we play 451 and have poor strikers so its hard for us. We've shown though that we can create lots of chances and score goals if teams aren't so negative against us, with comfortable 3-0 wins against Norwich and Southampton. Opposition managers and the media clearly dont like 451 and the likes of Rovers, Everton and Bolton who all play it get lumped together and called boring, physical and its assumed we put 10 men behind the ball. When the real facts are that all three teams have talented midfielders like Reid, Emerton, Cahill, Osman, Stelios and Okocha who all like the ball at their feet running at opposition defences, forcing the game and creating chances. The fact that we all play 451 doesnt alter this in the slightest. If we had Mark Hughes as manager all season playing the way we are now then we would definitely be up there challenging for Champions League football with Bolton and Everton. Hopefully this is where we will be next season! We have some talented players and with a couple of attacking additions, we are clearly capable of it. I see no reason to ditch the 4-5-1 formation next season though as it quite clearly works for us. I'd much rather be winning games, keeping clean sheets and being very hard to beat playing this formation than being more unpredictable and easier to score against playing 442! So why change a winning formula??
  14. This has probably been said before but the reaction from the media to Saturday has been an absolute F*****G disgrace. Talked to loads of Gooners after the match and not one commented in the slightest about a physical approach from Rovers, in fact most were praising us about some of the excellent football we played in the first half, saying they couldn't tell who were the Champions and who were the also-rans. My view of the match was that Rovers played strong but fair. It certainly wasn't a dirty game, if so then we would have had someone sent off. There were some strong challenges but all were to play the ball, its not Rovers fault that Vieira goes down like a sack of spuds if you DARE to touch him or that Reyes has such fast feet. It was the same against Chelsea, most of the match we played the better football and because we dared to foul the golden boy Robben then we're a bunch of dirty northern monkeys. Against both Chelsea and Arsenal we fell one goal behind against two teams who like to keep the ball and pass it around. Therefore the only way to try to get back in the game was the be aggressive and try to hunt the ball down with strong but fair challenges. BUT it seems that you're not allowed to try to win against Arsenal or Chelsea once they have gone one-nil up because thats supposed to be game over and we are supposed to lay down and die after that just like Newcastle did against United, just so the press boys and commentators can drool all over the excellent football that the big boys are playing. Well F**K that, we never say die we'll not give in to these soft southern idiots. If they want to see football played as a non contact sport then fair enough but hard challenges, aggression and will to win is what the game is all about. You didn't hear the likes of Dennis Law or Jimmy Greaves moaning all those years ago when the defenders tried to kick ten bells out of them. They just got on with it and continued to score great goals and dealt with it that way! This is what Arsenal did but they're still spitting out their garlic soaked dummys at it and it sickens me. Rovers 2 - 0 Palace
  15. Souness isn't doing that good of a job, once they get knocked out of both cup competitions by the two best teams still in them, United and Sporting Lisbon, they will be looking at yet another trophyless season. He inherited an excellent set of players, especially attacking wise yet there has been little improvement in their league position. The cup form has masked this. He's signed two very average players so far and will be losing his main goalscorer and captain at the end of this season. Without Shearer they will struggle next season in the league and Souness won't be able to withstand supporter pressure. Without Champions League football or even UEFA Cup next season they will struggle to attract any top players to join them. Newcastle fans have got to realise that they don't deserve success just because there is a lot of them. They should get behind their manager because he'll need all the help he can get next season without Shearer.
