  1. Just packed my bag here in Berlin. Fly to Amsterdam tomorrow morning. Then on to the Old Harbour in Rotterdam. This'll be my first Rovers away game in Europe.. after supporting them for 50 years! I'm really looking forward to this one. Just one question.. the last time I was in Amsterdam was in 1965 on a school trip from the, then, Darwen Grammar... do you think it will have changed? All I looked forward to then was a Coca Cola.. and a game of football? I'm then spending two days in Amsterdam checking up old Dutch Artistry of various kinds. So, fratenal greetings from the Berlin UNofficial BRSC. Hope to meet some of you in Rotterdam. And here's to three points.
  2. I'm travelling from Berlin to Rotterdam, originally from Blackburn and a Rovers supporter for 50 years this will be my first away trip in Europe. The full contingent of the (UN)official Blackburn Rovers Supporters Club Berlin will be in attendance... me and Andy.. 2 . Looks like we're going to have a great following.. lets hope the lads perform. If you're staying in Rotterdam on Thursday, which I am, it seems the place to be is the Oude Haven (Old Harbour). Secured for Rovers fans and coaches to and from De Kuip (The Tub). See you there. By the way the beer is not 8/9% but 5%, as here in Germany. A normal Bitter in England is nearer 3.5%. .. so Dutch beer has, in effect, 42.8% more ethanol than English beer. I'm talking draught beer. What a cheery thought
  3. I watched the game on TV here in Berlin... my comments: Krakow 1 - 2 Rovers after a controlled frst half from the Rovers with a number of gilt-edged chances, Gamst Pederson missing, for him, a sitter, we went in 1 0 down thanks to a scabby deflection. We started the second half on fire and eventually got the early breakthrough we needed, and deserved. Savage with an excellently placed header. Just before full time Bentley, who had been great all night, slotted in on the far post. Book your tickets for Glasgow well pleased a mature European performance... on our way to...
  4. roughly tranlated the whole paragraph reads: "Basically I'm optimistic whenever SV Salzburg play. We have tried to cover up the fact that the way we played against Blackburn was bad. But now comes the great game! (When we played Valencia it was vice versa)" btw another clean sheet 2 0 Rovers Not on TV here in Berlin but I do listen to the Rovers Radio stuff on t'internet Come on you blues!
  5. That was just great Bob.. thanks for that... very funny, very apt, and very party time. As I tell numerous people here in Berlin .. We may be the smallest town in The Premier League but we know our football. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...sea/4773571.stm How about Duffer coming back? Cheers and good health .. by the way I'll be supporting Australia in the WM (pronounced /vei em = Weltmeisterschaft) WC to the rest of you Guess why?
  6. Unofficial press release that should have happened. After explaining in detail the new concept to restructure the club along the lines outlined below we have come to an agreement with Tony Parkes that he is to be released from his duties. Together with Tony we have found ways to maintain his interest in and input into Blackburn Rovers F.C. A testimonial will be announced in the near future. Restructuring Co-ordinated, high quality systems in tactics, coaching, training, nutrition etc are to be put in place in all Blackburn Rovers' teams, from Youth to the First Team. This enables the free flow of sytems, know-how and, most importantly players, through the whole of Blackburn Rovers FC. Experience has confirmed that only a common philosophy of football running through all teams enables a club to identify talent early and ensure Academy players are "groomed" and "expected" to reach the dizzy heights of Blackburn Rovers F.C. First Team. Finally we note with interest the changes to UEFA rules which may well be considered at the meeting in Spring 2005 in Talinn, Estonia. Mark Hughes Eddie Niedzwiecki and Mark Bowen Kevin Hitchcock The Board (whoever they are.. no names that I could find on the official site)
  7. If this is the team, as suggested by frosty, Brad Neill NEJ Todd Mcevly Emo Fergie Tommo Reid Dickov Stead Then my prediction is: Rovers 2 0 Brum No doubt. Onwards and , more to the liking, upwards. Come on Rovers!
  8. This is a great thread. Once The Team has been voted upon why not The Squad. But, I would suggst, under the recently discussed changes to UEFA's rules. Squad: maximum 25 from that Squad: 8 minimum with same "nationality" as team. 4 minimum from that team's youth academy. The Team's looking..... good
  9. I'm coming over from Berlin with my daughter for this game. My last trip was at Christmas 2003 .. Villa, Boro etc.. it has to be better this time! Rovers 3 - 0 Villa Stead hattrick SPARKY HUGHES BLUE AND WHITE ARMY! Berlin section reporting for duty
  10. Brian Clough said: "If football is meant to be played in the air god would have put grass in the sky." They should pin this to Amoruso's and Gray's locker. We must start playing football again. On the floor. There is plenty of effort but not enough skill. The final ball tonight was terrible... no wonder Stead hasn't got off the mark yet. This comes down to a poor game by Ferguson. (When did you last see Fliity make a killer pass?). We need a 25 year-old Tugay. Where? Playing football requires mobility and accurate speedy passes over 5-10 yards. We lacked both tonight. I am still realistically optimistic.. no doubt the lads gave 110%.. they just need to get as fit as eg Charlton... But we don't seem to be able to find that "relaxedness" to cut through the frenetic football of the Premiership .. that is to be expected with a new manager. Effort and workrate are the only ways, in the short term, that players can impress an incoming manager. Hence the "headless chicken" act of e.g. Flitty. Possession was ours, 64% in the second half. The team "kept their shape" but the creativity reminded me of the table "football" teams that also "keep their shape". In the first half, as an example, Jansen was notable for winning some nice flick on headers. i.e. the ball was being played like a second division team (Premiership = 1) - long and high down the "inside left" and "inside right" channel. There was great deal of passion displayed by The Rovers tonight. That is to be expected. (see above). A draw would have been a "fair" .. but real fans know that is part of the game. The game itself was not an advertisement for football. Effort, endeavour etc yes... but.... Where? after the Labore is the Arte?
  11. Mark Hughes was my first choice. Rationally: take time to look at what he's done, over five years, for the FAW. Tactically: I'm sure it was his idea to play himself in midfield on that wonderful day in Cardiff. I remember moaning about it as the team sheets came up.. Sparky in midfield?? He totally destroyed the light weights in midfield that day. If you remember Parkes and Souness insisted he go up with then to the winner's platform. Emotionally: He's totally up for it. Linguistically: Very calm and controlled. A bright lad You are at the start of a new and exciting era for The Rovers. Let's stuff the Pompous Gets. MARK HUGH-ES BLUE AND WHITE ARMY
  12. Thompson was clattered from behind by Kleberson. No yellow card - too early in the game for the ref? Thompson's ankle took the brunt and off he had to go. Later Kleberson did get booked.. which should have been his second yellow and a sending off. Why do refs hardly ever give a yellow in the first 20 minutes? Where in the rules does it say "Ref to be lenient during first 20 minutes (especially if it's a Manure player)" Terrible refereeing yet again steals points from us.
