  1. One of my favourite games was the 5th round (or quarter final?) replay at home to Arsenal in 2007. We drew 0-0 at the Emirates and were the first away team to keep a clean sheet there. After the game Fabregas refused to shake Hughes' hand instead apparently saying, "you used to play for Barcelona didn't you? Your team didn't play like Barcelona", and then I think it kicked off a bit. Really wanted to beat them after that, I never liked Fabregas. Don't remember much of the game other than Benni's quality strike to win it which is one of my favourite ever goals. Think we also knocked out Everton and City on that run before the Chelsea semi final and that Pedersen header I don't like to think about.
  2. Chimbonda in the Utd 7-1 game was pretty awful but wasn't he just as bad against Villa in the League Cup semi final second leg against Villa? Am I remembering that right?
  3. I know they call it "silly season" but this is next level.
  4. Was competitive and of a decent standard during the 1980s until Rangers spent outwith their means and killed the competition. Modern football has effectively killed off all competition now as Celtic just get far too much money for the other sides to compete. For a nation a 10th of the side of England, it's a tad unfair to compare the two leagues. It is, on the whole, pretty pish don't get me wrong, so but so is the Championship and the bottom half of the Premier League so swings and roundabouts. There's some good players dotted around, same as most leagues, but some pretty awful ones as well.
  5. We haven't beaten them in what, 7 years? I want to play them in both cups every year until we beat them, don't want them coming anywhere near our recent record. Can you imagine how gutted they would be to still lose to us when we are two divisions lower than them? They would know deep down it's because we will always be top dogs.
  6. Luke Varney own goal, what a player. Puts him on minus 1 in his Burton career so far. Can't see that changing much either.
  7. As far as recent Celtic rejects goes, this one takes the biscuit. At best, a marginal improvement on Coyle.
  8. I also did it on a treble that includes Burnley going down so I'm not even going to win anything.
  9. And continues to do so. There's been plenty of Chinese transfers that have been better value than the likes of John Stones and Andy Carroll. A lot of countries are resentful of how much Premier Leagues clubs earn just because there's a lot of people in China and Thailand who want to watch Liverpool and Man Utd. I remember French journalists moaning that Payet, one of the best players in the league and playing for a team like Marseille, was moving to a nothing club in West Ham. Same as Ajax and Feyenoord's best players moving to teams like Newcastle.
  10. I do think he has mental health issues but he certainly doesn't help himself. Hopefully see Klitschko vs Joshua, GGG vs Alvarez and Broner vs Ricky Burns in the near future.
  11. "There is a name for what I have," he says, "where, one minute I'm happy, and the next minute I'm sad, like commit-suicide-sad. And for no reason – nothing's changed." Sitting in his armchair, wearing a vest and shorts, Fury looks at me evenly. "One minute I'm over the moon and the next minute I feel like getting in my car and running it into a wall at a hundred miles an hour. I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm messed up." Can he overcome these feelings? "No," Fury says calmly. "I just live with them. I think I need a psychiatrist because I do believe I am mentally disturbed in some way. Maybe it was the fact that when I was a kid we didn't have a family life. My mother and father were always shouting and screaming and hitting each other. My dad had different women and different kids down the road. My mum had 14 pregnancies – but only four of us survived. We had a little sister born for a few days and she died. There had to be a funeral. That would affect you." I dunno what I want out of life, me. What's the point of it all?" I'm looking for something different that's just not out there. But when I get in the ring I don't have this feeling I've got now. Right now, I really feel like smashing this place up."
  12. I've got us at 10/3 to go down this year and I feel like I've completely mugged off the bookies at that price. I was at a work's event yesterday and it was only when my brother text me at half-time saying "how bad are you?" that I remembered we were playing. Any other year I could probably tell you who our first 6 games were against. Now I don't even know who our next opponent is. Very long season ahead.
  13. Banshee is one of my favourite series. Shame it's finished now. They said they wanted to go out on a high but they definitely could have got a couple more seasons out of it.
  14. Hibs fans have a pitch invasion like you see all the time, but Rangers are sore losers. Luckily not a repeat of the 1980 one though. 114 years without winning the cup, losing 10 finals in that time, including a 5-1 hammering by their biggest rivals Hearts a few years ago. Great game of football.
  15. Rochina to score first, Granada to win is 170/1. Some things are just written in the stars.
  16. Yea those three are all comfortably better than any English side. This year Villareal have been really good, and are a fair bit ahead in 4th, but usually Sevilla and Valencia are right up there as well. Then it's just who is better at the time, or having a particularly good season, out of the likes of Malaga, Bilbao, Sociedad etc. These are all good sides who usually do well in Europe. The fact there could realistically be two all-Spanish finals in the European competitions this season means they obviously do have the quality. I'm not sure what can be more competitive than three teams at the top within a point of each other with three teams to go, and the bottom half teams I would say are about par with their English counterparts, who for the most part are average at best. You might get more upsets in England in terms of the top sides losing to the lesser ones, but that's only because the top 3 in Spain are better sides. Put them against mid or bottom half English clubs and they would win comfortably.
  17. The Ryder Cup is the best spectacle for me in golf. That comeback win a few years ago was one of the all-time greatest sporting triumphs imo.
