  1. Girls like her are worrying news for any football fan. Can bet your last quid if some club comes in offering 5k+ more a week she will be in his ear telling him to take it rather than stay put and work for a club that adores him. Quicker she gets offered another reality role and has another fling-for-cash with some other talentless dope the quicker Dack can get himself a proper girl. Decent rack though.
  2. The Belgium game is a concern but in truth both us and Belgium should have two good wins vs Tunisia and Panama and more or less guaranteed ourselves qualification. We should win the Panama game by 3 or more goals even if this is a World Cup game. Belgium's first 11 is fantastic but looking past that and you have some average players. Our issue is that we don't have a De Bruyne or Hazard - players that can single-handedly win games. Ideally we want to be winning our first two comfortably and then go into the Belgium game knowing that we are only playing for top spot.
  3. Payne is good back up though and you'd much rather have him than, say, Gladwin. I'd be looking at signing Payne as he can play out wide, the 10 role and central midfield if we really need him. Every successful sides have back ups of the quality of Payne! Bare minimum requirement, in my mind: centre back, central midfield x2, 2x wingers and striker
  4. Tyrone when we removed Samuel and put Armstrong there vs Bradford the game completely changed. Granted we were all over them throughout but we looked like we could score every time we got the ball for the brief spell he lead the line. I could see him, Graham and Dack being a powerful front 3. The only issue being is that all 3 players are narrow so unless you have top full backs bombing on all the time it becomes a bit too congested. Armstrong is good enough to play up front on his own but I think playing him with a Graham type player, who will hold the ball up and find his runs from deep, is where his real potency lies. I think Mowbray sees that too as it's exactly the way he's been playing even when out wide. He comes inside and makes that terrifying diagonal run across that every centre back hates. If we can maintain the quality passes from Dack and Graham then I'm sure, even from a wider position, he'll continue to score goals for Rovers. As for Newcastle - @#/? em. Their loss is our gain. Signing Armstrong next season is an absolute must in my opinion. Not only has he scored goals for fun since coming to us he's scored goals for fun every time he's played under Mogga.
  5. I can't see that happening. We have arguably a much better midfielder in Smallwood. Plus Evans has got into some fairly decent form the last couple of games despite a relatively uninspiring season. There are a million central midfielders better than him and I'd imagine Mowbray has his eyes elsewhere than Lowe. We've seen more bite in midfield this season than in the past 3 combined!! We do need another central midfielder though but I suppose that is looking too far ahead.
  6. Amazing how out of all of them Danny Guthrie couldn't get a contract in England. I'd say he's one of the better technical players on that list but unfortunately couldn't get fit. How Hopeless and Lowe got contracts in the Championship is beyond me and it's of no surprise both clubs they are at are fighting relegation.
  7. 20 million and you end up with overpriced, over paid players like Ross McCormack. You don't need that amount of investment but you do at least need millions to spend. 5-10 million should see us put together a good squad. That's if we go up, that is. If we don't I suspect this "investment", as some call it, will be recouped in other ways.
  8. I think it's more the lifestyle now Mattyblue. The vast amounts of money involves turns the most average of international players (who still, by merit, are very good players) into thinking they are something special. When you look at the England team you see a bunch of lads all very good on social media, or on their Soccer AM appearances going through old tweets, but you don't see somebody who is going to roll his sleeves up, slap his badge and get stuck in when we need him too. The players in question will get their 100k+ a week, appearance bonus, sponsorship money, tv appearance money, international cap bonus whether they win or lose. They don't mingle with the general public like they used too because they are the elite now so why bother what the general public think. That's my belief anyway. Although you could argue that it's the same around the world and other countries perform regularly. Italian, Spanish, German, French players etc all seem to take great pride in putting on the shirt - you get the impression with England players it's just "part of the job".
  9. From a physio standpoint it's just as bad that another, presumably more healthy part of his hamstring, has pulled. The measure of severity of the injury will be whether he's pulled, snapped or just strained that part of the muscle. It will be further scar tissue either way and result in an even weaker hamstring. Hopefully he's allowed proper recovery time and doesn't feel pressured to play again. He's been a joy to watch in his short spell here but we must conserve his career like you say
  10. The issue with hamstring injuries is the scar tissue it leaves behind. It means players can be far more prone to reinjury. Consistent hamstring injuries are the end of some careers. See Sturridge for the most perfect example. He has to give himself time to recover and if I was him I'd be looking at missing out the season. He's young and has the next 12 years to think about
  11. Livermore is part of one of the worst squads in the Premier League and has played (almost?) every game since Southgate took over. Unbelievable. Are there no better English midfielders?
  12. I don't like it at all, mainly because my cynicism tells me that given a few hours FIFA will have it packaged, branded and turned into a show. There will be "VAR sponsors" plastered all over our screens whilst they deliberate, firework-like displays when a decision is made, silly rhythmic clapping awaiting a decision and so on. Atmospheres like that make a game of T20 fun for some because they don't like the more subdued 50 overs or test match cricket. In football there's no such problems and slowing down a game, with such scope for commercialism, has 0 benefit. I think if you look at the amount of decisions made in a football season and take a % of those that are wrong and game changing we'd see that our referees do a very good job.
  13. You said his legs had gone and that we should sell him ASAP
  14. £500,000 is a huge amount to be fining someone by any standards. If a player is earning 30k a week you'd be ok with fining them 17+ weeks of their wage for "cheating"? It seems rather a contentious subject to be handing out such substantial fines. It isn't even comparable to every day fines for breaking the law.
  15. Not paid to talk about players but assured enough in his ability to spot talent to tell us how much of a failed signing Armstrong is. Weirdo.
  16. You are like a broken record. You've had an explanation to what he brings but now you have reworded your question and gone again. Armstrong scored 20 goals in 40 games last time he played at this level and under Mowbray. His record for Barnsley & Bolton, both struggling teams in the Championship, is irrelevant as he is playing in League 1 now. He has form with Mowbray and form in this league. He's also won major tournaments at international youth level. If you are expecting us to sign league and cup winners in our current predicament then you are pissing in the wind. Your request of an assured forward that has consistently done it at a higher level shows your delusions. Who do you think will come here with that sort of record?
  17. Except being part of the England squad that has won the U-17 Euros and U-20 World Cup. The same squad as Harry Chapman, by the way. He's achieved far more in his career than most of the players above 30 in our squad have. I'd suggest doing a tiny bit of research before commenting.
  18. I'd say 20 goals in 40 league games for Coventry at this level is proven. He's hardly been languishing at poor clubs in League 1. He had one crack of the whip, excelled and then was pushed up to the Championship for, albeit, poor clubs for that league. It has been stated that Armstrong wasn't a good match for Bolton. Their football didn't suit him - I think it was Adam himself who stated this. I'd also say that he is adding to a promotion team. He's either footed and quick which is something we lack in this team. If we are getting results with the players we have then adding a player like Armstrong can only "add" to it. He hasn't taken anything away from it. There are plenty of gripes to be had with the recruitment under Mowbray but Adam Armstrong certainly isn't one of them.
  19. Who do you expect us to sign JAL? There's not much in Armstrong's history to suggest he won't perform for us at this level.
  20. Lenihan is usually a good player on FM as is Wharton! On my FM17 save I've won the league 3 times in a row and on for a 4th with Wharton having played 300+ games so far! Him and another regen wonderkid through my academy called Richard Beck are rocks in defence. Never won the Champions league though in a record that extends 3 football managers. Won it with other teams but still can't do it with Rovers. Closest I got was a final vs City at OT where I got drummed 4-1 by Zidane's side despite battering them 5-0 at Wembley in the FA Cup a week before! It's my curse. I always like starting with Rovers due to our academy being well rated. On 17 I've developed and produced loads of wonderkids, selling players like Rankin-Costello for 30m plus!! Will probably purchase FM18 tonight and give up on another European dream for another year.
  21. As could the huge rise in obesity. I left school 8 years ago and can say that PE simply wasn't considered an "important subject". We had PE twice a week, at hour long lessons, with 15 minutes of that taken up by getting changed/getting in early to change (and if the showers worked, wash) to be on time for next lesson. That is a hour and a half of physical activity per week if weather permitted. Any rain and we took indoor PE lessons (one week the girls would have the gym, we'd have the clasroom and then the next). Whilst in year 7/8 we got hour long dinner times - my group of friends were very sporting and we played football, cricket and even rugby (despite our schools' lack of PE lessons we had 4 huge fields, 1 rugby field, 3 pitches and a cricket field) at dinner times. We also played in the school sports teams. However, in year 9 our new headteacher took the radical step of not allowing 1 hr lunch times, instead opting for 30minutes of dinner time restricted to either the canteen for school bought dinners or the hall for packed lunches. This was to "encourage learning" as she considered childrens' behaviour after lunch as too "boisterous". That took our 1 hour a day of activity away from us and certainly didn't make any improvement into the behaviour of any of us in the afternoon. If anything we were more hyper as we hadn't had our 1 hour to run around like headless chickens. Due to this school sports teams training was put back to after school rather than dinner time. Many of the lads couldn't attend as they played football, rugby, cricket, tennis etc elsewhere. Our school sports suffered. What was previously an excellent school for sports (we produced Ryan Allsop the blackpool gk, Chris Woakes for cricket & currently a young all rounder called Aaron Thomason for Warwickshire who is coming through and even a fair few once-professionals like Daryl Westlake at Walsall/Sheff Utd now playing for Stourbridge) now, from testament from my cousins and sister, can barely get an 11 together for their school football team. Apparently my year were the last real "sports team". We won everything. As mentioned we have produced a good few professionals over the time and a lot from my year currently play at quite high amateur levels. In our year there were a few obese children, like any other. However most of us were sporting and, even up until now, a lot of my school friends still play some sort of sport at whatever level. Again from testament from family still in the school and my friends' family it is now rife with obesity. Children can "opt out" of P.E if they feel uncomfortable doing so, which is pretty much everyone apparently. It's a blatant lack of respect and laughs in the face of government initiatives of pushing physical education and sports in working class schools to help those that can't afford specialist training/combat obesity. The headmistress that imposed these God awful rules is now a Dame; famed for "turning schools around". Because a letter on a piece of paper is looked upon far more favourable than any accolade in sports.
  22. The sterile environment of Ewood Park is only exacerbated by continuing to charge 20+ quid for walk ons. I took a few friends on early doors this season and they all begrudged paying that amount for the dreadful football and atmosphere. It really is awful right now and a far cry from our away support. It is as if roles have reversed. We used to travel fairly well compared to some other clubs when in the PL but was never the largest of away followings but Ewood always seemed to have a good atmosphere - a bit of back and forth between the away fans happened whenever a well travelled club came. Odd how things change
  23. There is a huge proportion of the Argentine population that have Italian descent due to Italian settlement there. It is only right that they are afforded the opportunity to play for their country of descent. With modern day globalism there are players all over the world that play for either countries they have settled in or countries their descendants are from. I wouldn't call it desperation at all.
  24. I was told the exact same story. Warnock alluded to it in an interview not so long after by saying "one particular club don't even know what they want" or something along them lines. Why any club in the championship would turn their nose up at Neil Warnock is beyond me. What infuriates me the most is that nobody has been held accountable: either by publicly apologising or at least answering questions we have to as HOW they came to the decision Coyle was the better choice.
  25. Warnock was lined up to take the job. That's a fact.
