  1. First for me would be a CB with some pace. Then a DMC. And if I'm allowed I'd then be greedy and go for a new striker!
  2. I thought Duff's celebration at Chelsea was quite reserved. As for Dunn, I thought he did well yesterday, didn't celebrate in an over the top manner, and although not as effective as he has been for Rovers, showed some good touches. And for what it's worth I'd love to see him back here. Although whether this will ever happen I have no idea.
  3. I know this isn't the most constructive of exercises, but I thought I'd throw in my two peneth too... So players who just aren't up to the job: Ammo NEJ Todd Flitcroft Reid Dickov Boothroyd (harsh I know as not had a chance to impress, but he's not, well, impressed me yet) So that's 7 players right away, and worryingly, 7 regular 1st team players, which I think sums up why we are where we are - a lack of quality.
  4. Living in the South I don't get to see many home games, normally just a couple a year, but I try to go and see them away. This season I've been to Southampton, Arsenal and on Saturday, Chelski (all of which we've lost - hope I'm not bad luck!). After the 1st 2 defeats I at least left having seen some promising play. Second half v Southampton we were the better team and in the 1st half v Arsenal we could have gone in ahead at the break. However, Saturday was the most disappointing display I've seen from Rovers for a long, long time. What struck me most was the lack of ideas and confidence this side has. There seemed to be panic whenever we got the ball, especially in defence, and we'd just hack it clear, straight to a Chelsea player. We didn't create a single chance of note in the game, and seemed to have no ideas once we went behind. To be honest, I didn't expect much from the game, I know Chelsea have far better players and we’re on a poor run. But it was so disappointing to see the level of performance we gave, and it has me feeling very worried for our future. I'm hoping Hughes can bring some player in during the transfer window, but that's 2 months away yet, so he has to work with what he's got. We're now bottom, and as any pundit will tell you, the team who is bottom at Christmas always goes down. So many of our player just don't look Premiership class, and that's what has got me worried, form is temporary, class is permanent. I'm hoping Hughes can turn things around, but I'm getting more worried every time he mentions January, as the way things are going, it could be too late by then.
  5. Yes, there will be quite a few clubs eying up players. Interesting interview on 5 live last night, with an agent. She was basically saying that although the wages that a lot of them are on are out of the reach of other clubs, because they get their contracts paid up, they will be able to sign for clubs with lower wage structures, without being out of pocket. In fact a lot will make money on these transfers, depending on how much of their contract is paid up. Not sure if he'll be let go (in fact I doubt it) but Robert Huth would be a good one to keep an eye on. Maybe even a loan deal?
  6. On paper it looks a reasonable deal. £100k for a player who got 13 prem (or whatever it actually was) goals last year. However what concerns me is what it means for us next season. I certainly don't want to see Cole replaced by Dickov, or Stead for that matter. And Gally needs to be given 1st team opportunities when he can. So I'd hope that he'd be a squad player for us really. But what leaves me feeling a little disappointed is that I just don't rate him as a player. Yes he's very good at scrapping for the ball, but I'd like us to have a little more ambition than that. To me this almost seems like we're saying "right, its backs to the wall again next season". It strikes me as a step backwards, a short term signing at best. It's just a little underwhelming, and whilst I'm sure he'll give 100% for us, which is what we like to see, this all has the same taste to me as Ashley Ward. Yes, he'll run around all day, but in the premiership, you sometimes need a little more than that. Of course we can't sign Henry or players like that, and I don't know of anyone else we could have signed for that money (although personally, I'd have looked at defence, then midfield before I looked at our front line for transfers this summer). But this transfer has failed to excite me. By all means I hope he proves me wrong, but I can't see him being anything more than a squad player and someone we play from the bench when we're 2 down, and we need to lump the ball forward and have someone kick at defenders ankles. All in all, a disappointing start to the transfer period, although I hope I'm proved otherwise come August.
