  1. Backing up this analysis by Lennie: -Venkys dont sack anyone....they leave in frustration and wanting to save their own credibility -the MacGuire deal was changed at the 11th hour and needed 'signing off' by Pune again At 9pm on deadline day you do not delay and risk the documents getting clogged up with the last minute rush by pressing 'save' and then celebrating. They were waiting for final approval from Pune and it did not come until very very late, by which time the key men HAD followed instructions/procedures. They would have been in trouble IF they had sent the documents without Pune final approval. None of the Management probably take any responsibility except to shield the Owners. We never seem to have admin difficulties in selling players!
  2. All fans should try to look at www.ewoodpark.jimdofree.com All the sections are pretty good, especially " The Venky's Reign of Terror" Lest we Forget.
  3. The words of Muse: "Resistence" on the Jumbotron/ Tannoys whilst the song was played at full belt. That would really resonate. A true "T -wa-t-s" moment in the history of Blackburn.
  4. sw4ggott@rovers.co.uk After this the Riverside will be seen as fit/unfit for closure. Managed Decline.
  5. Great input from JH Rover. As a protester I was mocked and shouted at, as if the Venkys were the 'golden cow'. After 5 1/2 years as Chair of the Trust, I came to the conclusion that the only solution to the managed decline was for things to get worse and, at last, Venkys to sell. I am now no longer active in trying to be a 'critical friend'. Willingly or unwillingly, We are the Rovers is now in new hands. Have been shouting in the wilderness re the Riverside and now they decide to start shutting the BBE. (Players have been commenting on lack of supporters in the Riverside, reach your own conclusions) If they would only attend matches, we could run them out of town!!
  6. Interesting developments are not usually in the Rovers' interests. This morning I contacted Steve W. for more reactions/background to this. We are THE Rovers has its next Meeting with the Club Board on the 28th September....he is on holiday at the moment. Owners of a Company get all sorts of their 'expenses' siphoned thru their Company or separate Companies. Whatever the Country. The Indian Government may have lots of success with their investigation. The wider issue is that the Modri Government is now flexing its muscles as a 'non-aligned' G20 member. There is a move to change the name of the Country to Bharat ....away from its Imperial/British imposed name...and an attack on Venkys may be part of the political manoevres. Modri comes from Gujurat Province, the origins of a high percentage of Asian heritage Blackburn citizens. The name of Bharat is of Hindu origin so it also has religious significance. Read into all that what you want. It does give Venkys a reason to liberate the Rovers, as they are loyal Indians and have to obey the direction of travel of the new Country. Maybe take more interest in the G20 Summit....based in Delhi.....starts soon.
  7. As Chair of Trust when we were offered the chance to sponsor the pre-Season friendly I immediately thought of a few personal and Rovers targets: -can "We are THE Rovers" do it?!! -can we get near to 5,000 supporters there? -will the other Fan Groups support us? -can we show the Club that cheaper Programmes can sell larger amounts? Thanks 4,000 Holes for a supreme effort. -will the Crowd take up the edited version of "A Day in the Life" from Sergeant Pepper at 2.55pm(Goosebump time if they sing it)? - can we have a good day out(inc Band) and get a last minute sale of Season Tickets.? Lets support our young Team from our superb Academy. But keep thinking Big! Please say hello to the Trust people on Saturday- if 4,000 Holes will let me, I will be selling lots of Programmes(£2 in coins please) THANKS to everyone who has tried hard to put this on.
  8. As Chair of Trust and a long-time Riversider, I was instrumental in emphasising the role of the Riverside in getting more supporters inside the Ground eg a cheaper Bleachers section,; clearing one wing section for 'safe standing' ; and using the Riverside NOT to cheapen prices in other zones of the Ground. This would allow Steve Waggott to maintain his position on financial targets but consistently punch home the Trust's position that 12k ST holders plus walk-ons is preferable to a sequence of 'offers'. We maintained this push all 2023/24 but we feel it is a lack of understanding of East Lancashire and the financial pressures on ordinary families coming from our Owners elite life-style. Elsewhere on this thread Miller 11 re-quotes our 6 main 'demands'. As the Trust becomes stronger we will not water down these key changes in tactics from Ewood. We are THE Rovers.
  9. In line with the Rovers Trust Marketing Prospectus( see www.roverstrust.co.uk) I have asked the Club(and a Coach traveller) for a list of where all the Coaches for Sunday are actually coming from. In our discussions with the Club we have been aggressively suggesting Facebook groups for "Rovers Helmshore Fans"; Lancaster, Leyland, Whalley etc etc and in selling Season Tickets to reclaim our outlying areas that have always been Rovers fans! We have always punched above our weight and the FA Cup has always been a key element of the DNA of any Rovers fan. Its hard work to get them to understand us....this Sunday really helps that over-lengthy process
  10. £15k+ per week and 2 years out = £1.6million Where has he showed he is back to anywhere near? Poor Matt Jansen did more. Very sad and I blame that PNE player, but the club has moved on. If top 2 paid players are Ayala and Brad then there will be lots of scope for the Head Coach and Greg in 2023.
  11. The key thing in the Big Club and Robbie Savage was the distance from Ewood to Wrexham and Brum to Wrexham. BUT the person most upset and had the ear of the Press was 'old Cabbage' himself STEVE BRUCE who at that time was Manager of Brum(I think he has manged every Greater Brum team in his illustrious career)
  12. I have already warned Steve Waggott about the potential mayhem of this match. None of current hierarchy have witnessed this Derby yet and are bound to be looking the wrong way!
  13. The 600 games for Academy players is fine and dandy BUT the sign of a good Academy is the money it brings in for Academy players , as part of the finance and FFP equation. Was Phil Jones the last one sold for an appreciable fee?
  14. Mike England was the Centre Half who we played up front in the mid-60s.....and part of that Youth Cup side with Newton and Pickering. Phillips reminds me of him. My favourite player who gave Burnley a torrid time when he played against Blant et al. Score away from home - 4-2(?). Still alive and living in North Wales.....one of the very few players to enhance his career by moving away, in his case to Spurs.
  15. The linesman was from Wigan....and never appeared again in PL. Totally insane match.
  16. Reidy will always be remembered for that Wigan goal. From behind the nets it was truly frightening. Now an esteemed Coach, at ??
  17. Our minute taker went on holiday the next day.......will chase him up on wednesday 29th. So July 4th is a sorter answer....... on www.roverstrust.co.uk
  18. He will agree to meet Glen M. I am sure. As a 'friend' of his, he is approachable but he will not be too open if he thinks you will broadcast anything confidential or compromising he tells you. He has a well paid but conflicted decision-making role. How has this now changed with a Head Coach and DoF, would be my question.
  19. Whilst the above excellent post is in the wrong thread, as Chair of the Trust, I have also met with Steve W. on many occasions and usually for a long Dinner(where I insist on paying 50% of the time). I usually have a list of issues that I write down and make sure I cover in conversation. Two Christmasses ago I gave him a Christmas present: Mike Jackman's excellent The Essential History of Blackburn Rovers. For a specific reason of course, because one of a number of issues I do not sympathise with him is the lack of any awareness within BRFC of East Lancashire's economy, environment and (most of all) mentality. With the exception of Lynsey Talbot I must add. 3 years ago I did a presentation to the Marketing team(plus 2 Senior staff) and this fell largely on stony ground. The departure of Greg Coar may help, but its slow, slow progress. The Trust "Marketing Prospectus" will be reviewed again and then despatched to Club again in September, specifically for the new Marketing Manager. BUT through all this I have and still regard SW as a friend and under the old system he was at Brockhall far more than at Ewood.....I hope this will change from now. And the 3 things I said to him I could NEVER agree with him were: -Pricing structure and levels -the lack of awareness of the state of the Riverside and its place for fans of the Club - and marketing of the Club(especially after £10 matches) and across Lancashire, not just around Blackburn with Darwen He will eventually retire but Rovers Supporters never retire! And its very much OUR Club. Really welcome JDT and ,especially, Gregg Broughton. More on the future Trust tactics and projects this Wednesday 22nd from 7.30pm....all welcome to Billington Band Club.
  20. And the Season ticket deadline needs to be extended to end June for all sorts of logical reasons.....
  21. Quick update: The Trust will be posting on our web-site www.roverstrust.co.uk an updated version of the Marketing Prospectus to try and guide the Rovers Marketing Department plus Management on what they might introduce over the next 3 years. The last one was produced just before the March 2020 pandemic. The new one covers the 3 years up to the Rovers 150th Anniversary and lays down a few principals eg do not introduce any new measures that may reduce the attendance(no collection of tickets on match day ring a bell?). It goes much wider than the original Prospectus eg Riverside/Safe Standing/2 year Season-tickets etc. Please look out for it on the website from Monday. Comments and ideas are welcome. The aim of it you can judge for yourself!
  22. But who is going to choose all these replacements? Sohail? Mike Cheston? Balaji? We almost need one or two people to stay on during the Summer. Could be a car crash.
  23. Prophetic from DE and pathetic from DA. Cost us a win at West Brom. Have we had a Middlesboro successful signing(apart from the extra long Contracts) ?
  24. WBA had 2 players sent off.....with straight reds. Same pressure for every team. Forward we go.
  25. Very nervous here in St. Kilda, VIC , Australia. Got my Rovers TV subscription but will be back to Lancs on the morning of the Forest match. Hope someone is warming my seat on the Riverside today. Kicks off at 0100 hours here but I will be stood up shouting support into the Laptop! COYB....just play your new, normal game.
