  1. I don't think anyone's blaming Hargreaves as such. Sven seems to stick the guy on whatever the weather so to speak without giving consideration to the opposition or the way the game is going. Readin the thread, people are saying we should have both had a different bench (including on form attacking players like Defoe ) and also instead of Hargreaves maybe used Bent and changed things round a bit. At least he'd have given more goal scoring options.
  2. Well I'll take your word for that mate but regardless as someone else has already pointed out - playing NI why would we need a stopper like Makele. We needed an attacking midfield. Credit to the Irish, they came with the right game plan - one England don't like, i.e. where the opposition really get into their faces and give them no time on the ball. In the first 20 minutes we got bullied off the park. I have to say there were a significant number of rash challenges which the ref should have acted on. His leniency was the perfect vehicle for Sanchez's strategy to pay off. Upfront we had skill and pace but little physical presence. Capaldi dealt with SWP marvellously - full credit to the guy. The Irish were always going to put men behind the ball and hope for a sneaky breaking chance which they got. Great finish - was it a slightly offside? England stood off the Irish as they grew in confidence. IMO we need more physical presence to counter sides that are going to come with the intention of knocking us about, the ref last night should have taken more control, Rooney lost it due to a combination of being out of position but mainly I'd say being roughed up with impunity every time he got the ball and yeah maybe Sven's run out of ideas but can't see him going so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed about next month's games and expecting nothing from next summer.
  3. Not strictly true. The draw used to be a straight home or away draw like the other rounds are today. [/PEDANTIC MODE]
  4. Astounding game last night. Good to see Duff scoring - great vision, fantastic running and very clinical finishing - defensive error maybe but I'd like to have seen Van Nistlerooy finish that chance in his current form (NOT!). Chelsea are hungry for success. They look like Arsenal last season. Heart breaking to see Ferguson choking back his feelings of devastation during the press conference last night On PhilipL's Europe Superleague point, if the current set of clubs who regularly play in the champions league form a Superleague and don't play domestic games then how will they make up the lost revenue of no longer playing in the champions league or a similar competition?? Just a point.
  5. Imagine your disappointment when you discovered that it was the name of a band not a description of their occupation
  6. Right now I'd say the list of least popular people in football generally is likely to include 1. Wayne Rooney (obvious Everton defection thing and various controversial on-pitch antics) 2. Sir Alex Ferguson (for years of pathetic undignified public mind games with league title rivals. Even stuck the knife into Rovers in 1994/5). 3. Souness (We hate the barsteward for dumping us and the Toons hate him for sabotaging their chances of winning anything this season and probably several more til someone decent comes in and rebuilds) 4. Sepp Blatter (For his well documented reputation for consistency in meting out sanctions to players for infringing rules esp on drug testing and his hair-brained reworking of the rules and FIFA structure) 5. Urs Meier (Enough said. If I was him I'd be waiting til I'd awarded England a penalty or let a dodgy goal stand before coming here on mi holidays).
  7. To the tune of "All the Things She Said" by Simple Minds Anywhere you go, you know he’ll still be scoring All the things we said, he’s Stead Little keeper close your eyes, there'll be no compromising Of all the things he said, he’s Stead
  8. But today, there is no day or night Today, there is no dark or light Today, there is no black or white Only Michael Gray
  9. Limp Bizkit's latest offering "Results may vary" isn't bad at all. It certainly doesn't derserve some of the slatings its had. It does lack some of the attitude and anger that jumps off Chocolate Starfish but its still got some decent hard edged LB stuff such as Eat You Alive and Creamer (radio is dead). Plus its got the other single Behind Blue Eyes which is an excellent mellow metal angst track and Down Another Day is another "feel my pain" classic. If you're the pretentious type who can;t be seen to listen to anything mildly hackneyed or cliched you'll probably hate this. But if you're a fan of the nu metal genre and aren't too far up your own arse then I think you'll like it.
  10. Saturday was the first time I'd bought something you could class as Metal for probably 10 years. I picked up Metallica's St Anger. Absolutely brilliant. The free DVD of a rehearsal for the album in Metallica's studio 'The Sanitorium' was really interesting. Revealing insight into what makes a good band tick, i.e. after all these years they're all still best mates, really enjoy their music and know how to have the craic.
