As soon as I finish Gene Wolfe's Books of the New Sun (which is turning into more of a slog than I'd hoped, although not quite as bad as the similarly themed Tales of The Dying Earth by Jack Vance - fantasy masterwork my @rse) I plan to read Ender's Game ahead of the film coming out this / next year. Read Seventh Son years ago, and remember it being pretty good, but never really got into the series. For anyone after a sci-fi recommendation, Alistair Reynolds' Century Rain is a good read (albeit a bit of a departure from his previous stuff), and Broken Angels by Richard Morgan is just fantastic, even better than it's predecessor.

I've voted no, but not because I wanted Ferguson to stay. Selling Ferguson when we did resulted in the worst possilble scenario from a Rovers perspective. Not only did we lose Ferguson to Rangers, but we didn't even have the time to plow the money into areas of the team which are crying out to be reinforcement (i.e. a $&%£ing striker) The management and board at Ewood have ballsed up badly in my opinion.

What do you base that on? If a fee has been agreed behind the scenes there is more than enough time to negotiate personal terms and carry out a medical. That said, the story does seem to have gone very cold over night, I hope we haven't got our hopes up for nothing.

Got to second that, Bruce had a very assured game. Hope he doesn't turn out to be one who got away from us before he realised his potential.

Ages ago I posted that I would never applaud Craig Bellamy if he played for Rovers, no matter how many goals he scored. In the main this was because I don't think much of him as a person, but in truth it was always something of a hollow threat, given that I didn't think we would ever again have the chance to sign a player of his calibre. How fickle is the football fan! If we were to sign Bellamy it would, in my opinion, represent the single most important purchase for this club since Shearer. I can't believe some of the people saying "well he's a good player and all that, but...". Bellamy is absolutely the best striker we could realistically hope to sign, and at any other time we wouldn't have a hope of landing him. A lucky confluence of circumstances have given Rovers this chance; Newcastle are desperate to get rid before the transfer window closes, Blackburn have a little more money than we thought we would have at this stage of the season, and Bellamy's relationship with Hughes makes us a more attractive destination than we otherwise might have been. Of course Bellamy isn't perfect, but he is significantly better than anyone we have at the club currently, and Hughes has as good a chance of bringing him to heel as anyone. If nothing else, I would relish the irony of benefiting from a Souness vs. player bust up for once.

As regards Ferguson, it is now painfully clear that it is in the best interests of all parties to get him gone as soon as possible. I've always been of the opinion that once a player has made it plain he does not want to be at the club, you get rid, and fast. I don't especially blame Murray for the way he has conducted himself, he is trying to get a player at the best price he can, and is using Barry's proclaimed desire to return as leverage. Any good chairman would do the same. On the flip side, Rovers are in resonably good financial health so can afford to prevaricate in order to coax a better price out of Rangers. If we can get somewhere around £5 - £5.5 million for Ferguson, either now or in the summer, it will go a long way to bankrolling another striker. Just as long as it's not Craig ****** Bellamy.
