  1. As a young player Rooney was a better bet than Ronaldo. One looked after himself and one didn't.
  2. The Portugese Ronaldo is a top player, no doubt about that. As a human being - I'm not impressed. The last Euro final did it for me. He limped off after about 10 minutes. He handed the captains armband to another player, Pepe ? The rest of the team battled on like Trojans without him and eventually won the cup. Who steps up to receive the trophy ? Yeah you've guessed it- the guy who did nothing in the final to win it. A real captain like Bobby Moore would have said to the guy who took the armband - " You and the rest of the team won the cup, you go up and get it " .
  3. I saw Pele enough on TV to know I was watching a football genius. You can watch the extended highlights of the 1970 World Cup any time you like on the Internet. The guy was on another level. He didn't have a weakness. The Brazilian coaches reckoned he was also the best goalkeeper in the squad. In the days before sub goalies he was down to go in goal if the regular goalie got injured. Maradona was on TV all the time, I must have seen him play dozens of times. I'd say the Brazilian Ronaldo was better than the current Ronaldo before he piled on the pounds.
  4. The team as it stand at the moment has got relegation struggle written all over it.
  5. Trust the Chicken Chokers to blow away the recent feel good factor at the club. They never change, terminally stupid.
  6. The England team of 1970 was a better team than the one that won it in my opinion.
  7. He isn't over rated by those who actually saw him play. It the immortal words of John McEnroe - " You Cannot Be Serious Man ". He was the best, you can argue about who comes second.
  8. Spain are at least two goals better than England at the moment.
  9. You can't have seem much of Platini to say that. He was every bit as good as Zidane in his day. Regarding the best - Pele is head and shoulders above all the rest. Maradona is probably next in line.
  10. Summerbee had that killer instinct as a player. If you gave him a kick you had big problems. He was a really hard case for a winger.
  11. How did the " guy from Scotland " go on at Sheffield Utd ? Have we missed out or have we dodged a bullet ?
  12. The only time I've seen him play in the flesh was in the egg cup game at Rochdale. To be honest he looked to be one of our better players that night but that's not saying a great deal. Nobody really looked the part, especially after we went down to 10 men. I thought he had a good touch for a big guy and a good change of pace that enabled him to get past people. He was two footed and could go either way. He played out wide at first but when we went down to 10 he came more inside. I'd say his best position is similar to the role Dack plays.
  13. Mowbray's not infallible otherwise he wouldn't have signed Caddis, Gladwin, Hart, Harper Etc.
  14. That MJ Williams who was released by Liverpool that somebody on here mentioned the other day has gone back to Rochdale. He was on loan there last season.
  15. I think what we're talking about is players who didn't reach the heights that were predicted for them when they first started out. I think you could class Heskey in that group although he had a good career. Having said that he seemed to find scoring against Rovers easy.
  16. I think you're right. He reminded me a bit of Devon Malcolm the old England fast bowler. He was playing against South Africa and at the time there was an unwritten rule you didn't bowl bouncers at tailenders who couldn't bat. They ignored that and bounced him a few times, they may have even hit him with the ball. He was still livid when he came on to bowl. He really got his mad up and bowled faster and more direct than I ever saw him bowl before or after. He gave the South Africans a taste of their own medicine and just blew them away. But he had to get mad first.
  17. O'Sullvan did nothing at Rochdale apart from getting sent off. I don't think he did much at Bury either.
  18. If he's starting games obviously we won't have signed anyone better. Not a pleasant thought.
  19. I'll wait whilst have seen us play a competive game. I've seen us talk a good game and then roll over when the whistle goes too often.
  20. If Conway is a regular starter next season I'll eat my hat.
  21. I'd be worried if it was Johnno.
  22. I hate to say it but Dyche has a terrific record when it comes to signings. Not many flops and quite a few players that have turned out to be outstanding signings.
