  1. I think JDT is by far the best manager to walk through the door under Venkys reign, but was really hamstrung at every turn and not given the tools to do the job. Our ceiling was higher under him but with the chaos and financial restrictions meant his and the clubs potential was never going to be met. We ended up being a poor match. Our chaos held him back and his footballing principles were to the detriment of the club.

Eustice on the other hand strikes me as a practical bloke. If finances are sorted and he is backed, I think a point will come where he takes us as far as he can. But he will bring some stability and meets our current needs better than JDT did.

I must say though, I do miss JDT's interviews, his determination to raise standards at the club and him holding Waggott and Pasha to account. I'm grateful for what he tried to do here.

Anybody still think we did the right thing in getting rid of Raya ?

World class saves in that penalty shoot out. He looks as though he's thriving and developing further under big game pressure. Fair to say there's an argument for him being in the top 5 keepers in the world.

    Nice one Tony.

  3. Stay up or go down I'm sure Szmodics will be leaving this summer. I don't think the squad has ever needed a rebuild as much as it does now. If he picked up an injury between now and the end of the season I can't see where the next goal would come from.

He's actually outperforming his Xg by 5 goals this season. He's an absolutely brilliant finisher.

  4. Had Pears not picked up his injury we'd be placed far higher in the league. He's not of the standard of Kaminski but he's a good goalkeeper at this level. Given the drop off to Wahlstedt he's arguably our most important player along with Szmodics.

I'm pleased he's beginning to gain some of the credit he deserves. He was outstanding last night and after his horror show a couple of years back against Wigan has continually improved.

He seems like a key member of the dressing room as well. Hopefully this security and confidence will see him continue to get better and better.

Proof in the pudding will be in how we play rather than soundbites in interviews.

He has a reputation for pragmatic, direct football and we certainly played long ball on Tuesday, it ws horrendous to watch. Its all about results but I think he needs to find a balance as he gets used to the players because aimless punts wont work.

Agreed. It also seems pretty foolish if there is a thought process around a complete switch in style of play from us under JDT. We were way too open under him and we've lost a key player for that system in Adam Wharton.

However, even the biggest JDT critics can't deny that there were aspects of what he'd implemented that we were doing very well, but there was just no balance. Like with anything, the answer often isn't ripping up the script but making tweaks. Tighten up and empower players to make the decision to be pragmatic when needed rather than playing out from the back at all costs.

From his interviews this is similar to what Eustice has been saying, but we've yet to see it. Hopefully this will show when he has more time on the training pitch. I actually think Johnson and Lowe have a big role to play here, as do the senior players. Relaying what we were doing previously so Eustice can tweak the style.

Fingers crossed him having more time on the training pitch will see this happen. As we're desperate both in terms of points and in terms of the atmosphere around the club. I think we're a week or two away from the club turning truly toxic, which could be no bad thing, so long as we survive.

  6. Really hoping Eustice does well but the fact he's Waggotts man unfairly taints him. I really liked JDT. Flawed tactics at times, yes, however he gave me a connection to Rovers. He wanted what was best for the club from top to bottom. Eustice has to do his talking on the pitch as I can feel the fans turning on the club in a far more volatile way if he doesn't. It's very risky business if you end up being seen as a puppet.

Can't imagine Gregg is giving this gig up easily, he's in a position that he doesn't look remotely qualified for to me.

He moves on and he's taking a huge backwards step in terms of club, position, and salary at his next job IMO.

He's between a rock and a hard place. He readily admitted a DoF position was a step up for him. I don't think it made him totally unqualified but needed a club to give him an opportunity. I think he has the skills to succeed in the role.

What he can't afford though is his first gig as a DoF to be a blot on his CV. He needs his work here to be a success to continue having a successful career. I'm sure he can't believe the batshit set up he's found himself in, specifically Steve Waggott. His job has been made very difficult. So, does he walk away with a tainted reputation or keep working in a toxic environment to try and get some credit in the bank? No offers on the table elsewhere and Venkys won't sack him because they despise paying compensation.

In terms of his performance so far, it's difficult to give too much praise since he's not been successful but at the same time, I'd argue he's been hamstrung at every turn. Is he an asset or a liability? I'm not sure anyone can really say. My main reason for standing by him is I believe his future success is tied to Rovers success, so he's one of the few people in the building who wants to see positive change.

Honestly think you’ve been fed an absolute load of shite here Glen, none of it makes sense.

We provisionally agreed a fee with Orlando for a player we’ve been tracking for months only then to realise that he’s a rookie who’s only played 30 professional games, information that fans will have found out after a 30 second google of his name?

Even the admin girl could see whether the documentation had been sent or not but no one realised that it hadn’t for 2 hours until, coincidentally, just 4 minutes after the deadline?

By all accounts the Fleck deal was done after McGuire, were they processing this whilst scoffing their curry? When they were processing it no one realised McGuire hadn’t actually been sent?

Sounds like they’ve had a few days to come up with a story that blames only one person and I’m sure there will be announcement in the near future stating that this person has left their role, at which point they can say that the matter has been dealt with and we can go on as usual.

    Bullshit if you ask me.

I don't doubt the info Glen has been fed, but it also stands to reason the first thing the group in the room would have done is go into self-preservation mode and get their stories straight. Hence the same timeline of events from four different sources.

As for the error only being realised at 11:04... Trust in the Rovers hierarchy is at an all time low, so it's only natural that people begin to speculate. I wouldn't say it's outside the realms of possibility that there had been private conversations amongst one or two on our board that the deal needed to be scuppered, with the promise of either jobs being safe or a handsome payoff. On the surface it seems as though JDT and GB have been at loggerheads with SW & Suhail. How do we know there hasn't been some private conversations in the background? All speculation and conspiracy theories, but they seem almost as likely as incompetence to me. I'm not even going to bother making my mind up around what has gone on. We'll never know.

No organisation can function when there is this little trust with their paying customers. Regime change is the only way forwards for the club.

I like jdt but if he has agreed to be Sweden manager whilst under contract and still demanded compensation that's a joke.

I disagree. He's been lied to and dealt a dud hand here. He's career focused and ambitious. Any job I do, if I'd had what was promised fail to transpire I'd have half an eye on my future as well.

He's a principled bloke and even though results have been poor, I think he's still been putting in the effort here. He definitely goes with my best wishes.

Those though questions are for Waggot in all honesty - Him are Suhail are the men in charge (after the no shows).

GB will have been ordered to not spend any of the money.

I do wonder where the orders have come from. My bets are from India through Suhail, but I wouldn't put it past Waggott being the one putting his foot down and saying not a penny is spent until the next round of funding comes through.

  11. I don't believe those numbers involved. Admittedly we're going to have to pay more as an overall package, but those numbers make no sense. If we can't scrape together the money now, Orlando will know there's no way of us paying a fee that high.

There is the argument he could perform well and his stock rise enabling them to get a better deal, but equally, what if he flops. His transfer value would be shot.

    TWO MORE LOANS

20 mill in the bank, 2 loans on the way

I'm assuming Sigurðsson still counts as a loan. We loaned him for the season with no fee and he's then signed a pre-contract with us which in theory should only be triggered when his contact with Cska Moscow expires.

So it McGuire and this Liverpool lad come in on loan that is a total of 6, when we can only have 5 loan players in a match day squad.

i can imagine the carnage if id`e have lived in london at 19 with limitless amounts of money coming my way😆

i hope adam keeps to the football side and not the girls, booze and betting one, still think it`s a bad move for him though, another season and he could have had his pick of the big clubs, crystal palace ffs,a club on the downslide imo

Just look at his haircut. Seems the type who's happier to play his xbox in the evening rather than a night out on the town.

  14. It's all gone very quiet. So much for the LTs live deadline day blog. We were being linked with a number of players last night before the inevitable happened. I'm hoping the silence will be broken by 2 or 3 players being announced all at the same time.

But in reality we all know this is an absolute shit show, and we're going to end up with a freebie and a loan, no money spent and Adam holding up a Palace shirt.
