  1. hope he does. we're gonna win the league next season regardless. i think we should buy robben as a replacement cos hes class. we shud sell bellamy and buy henry and rooney
  2. Some of the comments here have been, to say the least, disgusting. As a Scum player, I hate Smith and his attitude as much as the next guy. But to gloat or show no sympathy for someone who suffered an injury as bad as that is plain wrong, and more than a little pathetic. Dress that up with as much self-justifying gibberish as you wish, it's still the same.
  3. Roll on Wednesday... The lads have done brilliantly over the last ten games or so, it's now that they need our full backing. A new striker lining out wouldn't be bad...
  4. Afternoon gents. My, bit of a thriller on our hands here... COME ON!
  5. That was just lovely. Seriously though, how nice it would be to send this pack of prima-donnas home with their tails between their legs. If we apply ourselves as well as Wednesday night, cut out some fatal sloppiness (Tugay?) and have a fair ref it's certainly possible. The thought of the 'dynamic duo' of Kuqi and Bentley reunited makes me shiver. I just wonder if Hughesy might shake things up a little by playing Emerton from the start and having Pedersen in a forward role. It certainly livened things up on Wednesday night, we looked infinitely more threatening than with the formula of hoofing balls up to Kuqi, who either failed to win headers or mis-controlled the ball. Coming over from Dublin for this one, fingers crossed for some sweet revenge.
  6. A frustrating night. Solid performance from Rovers that was undone by two defensive errors (one unlucky and one careless) and a shocking front pair. No one has faulted Kuqi for his effort, but tonight his woeful lack of control, imagination and ability stunted almost every promising attack we embarked on. He is the sort of hulk that should emerge from the bench ten minutes from time when all else fails. Unfortunately tonight there was no choice but for him to start. Bentley is a lightweight show-pony who barely touched the ball before the last ten minutes. Maybe we are now learning why we got Bellamy on the cheap. It seems that there's barely been a week since August that he hasn't "pulled up in training" or had to come off. Rovers look an entirely different outfit with his superb link-up play and dragging around of opposition defenders. I just hope the physios at Ewood can get to the bottom of his constant niggling hamstring problems. A fit Bellamy playing 90 minutes week in- week out could be the difference between Rovers finishing in the top six or ending up mid-table.
  7. I can also confirm that the charming Mr. Bellamy was wearing a ridiculously oversized, white, Rastafarian-style chav hat on his way out of the ground. Took me a minute to realise it was him. When I did, I said "Hi, Craig" to which he replied with a barely audible, rather cheesed off "awwright". I think he was trying to leave the ground unnoticed, which might explain his bad manners. A little more respect for those who pay his wages might be in order, though.
  8. I don't subscribe to the view held by a lot of people over here that if you're Catholic/from the Republic you autmoatically have to root for Celtic. Personally, I couldn't give a toss about either of the Old Firm. All the same, it's hard no to have a chuckle about the plight of much-missed 'wee Barry'. Ulster-Rover, his crimes are pretty clear. He's signed and appointed club captain, gives a catalogue of forgettable performances (although some fans at the time were reluctant to admit this, given that we'd spent over 7 million quid on the little weasel), when he discovers that he's not up to it at this level he bleats for a move back to his 'beloved boyhood club', one that he was quite happy to walk out on a year previously. And to cap it all off, he refuses to play for us in a cup game as blackmail. After the money, wages and faith Rovers invested in him as club captain, all 'Bazza' could do was belittle the club with comments about our 'big game' being against Bolton. This was tosh, and not something that appeared to concern him too much when he way waxing lyrical about his Premiership dream move when we signed him. In short, he wasn't good enough and getting shot of him proved a success all round. Pity there's been a downturn in the fortunes of 'the wee man' this season, and just as Rovers are starting to realise their potential. Shame, really. Then again Baz, there's always the possibility of a cup clash at Arbroath to look forward to!
  9. Hello all. I've been reading this site for at least seven years now and am familiar with most of the characters on here. The Shearer-worshippers and the "He dumped us" brigade, the Souey-ites and Souey-despisers (Jan? ), the various Clarets bringing good tidings, the "9-post wonders" whose grammar and punctuation could be bettered by a stoned chimp on a typewriter.... I'm 21, my Dad used to work in the Blackburn area and got me into following the Rovers circa '92. I've been over to many home and away games at this stage: The Good (VE Day 1995), The Bad (0-0 Man United at home 98/99) and The Ugly (0-2 QPR at home 99/00). Having just got back to Dublin this morning after yesterday's game I feel compelled to make my first post. What a fantastic performance, unrecognisable to some of the dreck served up by the end of Souey's reign. What impressed me particularly was the HUNGER of the team - which is not something that has not always been the case, particularly since Damien "I Love The Rovers" Duff left. Right from the word go there was fighting for every ball and a real drive to get forward. Emerton shed his usual head-down, Forrest Gump routine down the wing and made a lot of intelligent passes, not to mention the peach of a strike. Reid and the sublime Tugay totally bossed the midfield and apart from a few shaky moments second half the back line was very assured. Dickov, never short of 100% but lacking in quality, had a very effective game and Bellamy is showing a trickery up front we've been lacking since Jansen's accident. His work-rate is tireless - even before his one clear-cut chance (resulting in the goal) he was dragging the Charlton defence all over the place with intelligent runs. After the lacklustre first few games to the season, it looks like we mean business. Pity to see the gaps all over the stadium, but from where I was sat (Row 23 BBE) the place was buzzing - almost non-stop singing and a pleasing reception for Jay Bothroyd. Even in the nervy few minutes after they scored the crowd was very vocal and didn't get on the lads' backs. The way the team approached both halves got people going. Compare that to some of the first halves at Ewood we've seen this season - WBA and Brum come to mind. With performances such as yesterday, and the ticket deals, there's not much else the club can do to entice supporters back. I'd already booked my flight over for the West Ham game before yesterday, and since getting back home I've been looking at flight prices for the dates of other home games. I'm quite happy to spend my limited student funds on Hughes's rejuvenated Rovers. It was a joy to watch. Long may the resurgence continue!
