  1. --> QUOTE(Ste B @ Aug 7 2007, 19:19 ) 535192[/snapback] Theres a fans forum meeting next week, and the DRUMMERS are keen to hear any alternative suggestions, and meet with people who can put something forward. The drummers believe they improve or add to the atmosphere, personally I think the exact opposite but would challenge them to prove me wrong. I think they should hang up their drumsticks for three consecutive games next season. If by the end of the third game the atmosphere is worse than it was before then they will have proved their point. If it is better then it will have showed to them that their efforts as fans are needed but their efforts with the drumsticks are not. Personally I don't think they will be willing to take up this challenge as they are afraid of it proving that the atmosphere is in fact better without drums, but I would be delighted for them to prove me wrong and put their drumstricks away for three consecuitve games (and then hopefully be convinced to retire them permanently thereafter).
  2. Which bit is excessive? Sending them to Burnley?
  3. Maybe we could send the Blackburn drummers to Basle for training purposes - and with a bit of luck (and hopefully a one way air ticket) they might stay there!!!
  4. Make it a two way mirror and it will make the Riverside Stand the biggest executive box in the Premier League!
  5. To be fair to Fettis he was only brought in as a third choice keeper behind Flowers & Filan to cover for injuries and didn't cost a huge amount of money (relatively speaking). I do recall seeing him play for us against Leicester. I think we were 5-1 up and remember feeling nervous that we might lose the game, as Fettis never exactly inspired confidence the way seeing Flowers in goal did. I think if my memory is right we won 5-3 with Sutton getting three and even Dahlin getting on the score sheet!
  6. Don't like that league table at all - Burnley are above us! Much prefer these ones!!! http://www.krysstal.com/league1914.html http://www.krysstal.com/league1995.html
  7. The article in the People says it was Rovers who faxed the chippy. That could have been a very expensive mistake. The error with the fax might be why we didn't hear about the transfer for some hours, not around midnight like other transfers on deadline day.
  8. I think the problem with Matteo is that he is on quite high wages and is not anywhere near the first team. I think Souness brought him in initially to play in midfield as he had been playing there for Leeds, with the thought that he would also be useful as he could play centre half and left back as well. The problem is that he hasn't didn't do well enough in midfield and I think he has looked a liability at centre half and I'm sure Mokoena would be in the side ahead of him if we had a lot of central defenders missing through injury. Left back seems to be his best position and to be honest was not exciting, but seemed to be doing a steady relaible job there. Unfortunately for him he lost his place through injury and that gave Gray a chance to stake a claim. Gray did perhaps surprisingly well and Matteo hasn't been able to get his place back. I suspect now though with Emerton at right back, Neill is now first choice left back, pushing Matteo down to third choice. If we lose Neill in January without getting a new left back (eg Warnock) then we could find that we need Matteo again. Perhaps the best option for both Matteo and Rovers is that we let him go on loan to a Championship club until January - that we he gets to play in meaningful games, which will help with his form and fitness and Rovers get a contribution towards his wages.
  9. I remember when Henning Berg returned to Rovers. He wasn't exactly quick, but his awareness and speed of thought more than compensated and he turned out to be an excellent signing. The partnership with Craig Short who also wasn't fast was outstanding for a while. I can't see Henchoz being a regular, but bringing him in as cover on a free providing his wages are reasonable would seem to be a shrewd bit of business, no doubt instigated by the loss of Nelsen for longer than expected and possible departure of Matteo.
  10. I agree that it is a risk to sign him that could end up being a complete waste of a transfer fee and wages, or turn out to be an inspired signing - like Jeffers he certainly at one time had the talent to be a star. He may well still have it. At £2m it was a big gamble, but probably worth it providing the wages reflect the fact that he has had a lot of injury problems. To be honest £2m would have been a great deal for Birmingham too as he is in the last year of his contract. I think if it had been any other club than Rovers, Birmingham would have snapped their hand off for £2m, but their dislike towards us (presumably over Savage) means they will not want to deal with us unless they feel they are getting well over the odds! The bid could also merely have been a statement of intent - an indication to Dunn that he is wanted back at Ewood, in the hope that they can do either a cut price deal or pre-contact agreement in January.
  11. Good honest player who gave 100% for Rovers. Not the most talented, but made the most of what he has and I'm sure he will be a success at Palace - Good Luck to him! Made a valuable contribution on the pitch last season, and now a valuable contribution to the finances this season. I think Hughes would have been happy to keep him and the price Palace have had to pay shows or seems to indicate that the club is good at playing it tough. £2.5m was just too much to turn down for a player who was not at best 4th choice striker. It wonder who was the last striker Peter Taylor signed for a huge transfer fee? http://www.laughfc.co.uk/stories/story.php?id=484
  12. I really love Rovers (as I'm sure do the drummers). While I'd put up with the drumming for 3 points at Sheff Utd, as for the rest of it - if that's what I have to do for three points there I don't mind losing that particluar game!!! After all there are another 34 games after that we can get three points each in!!!
  13. I have to agree that when you sign foreign international players you have to factor in that there are going to be times when you are going to lose them to international duty. That is one factor that makes them cheaper than British players. I must admit I hate Sam's complaining about just that - what does he expect? The only time I remember having any sympathy with a manger regarding international call ups was Spurs (must be a first having sympathy for them) when Kanoute switched international allegiance to an African nation having previously when they signed him having been a French player.
  14. Overall I think we did ok in the transfer window. We really only lost one player from our strongest starting eleven (Bellamy) and that wasn't our choice - and did everything possible to hang onto him. We re-signed several players first team players linked with other clubs on new longer contracts. We got rid of several squad players reducing the wage bill, and bring in transfer fees without weaking the first choice team. All the players brought in apart from Brown and Jeffers are for the first team rather than the squad. In the case of Brown he is a promising young international goalkeeper. That being a specialist position you need good back up and someone for the future as Brad isn't getting any younger. Jeffers is a low cost gamble - a once talented young player who lost his way - if Hughes can help him find his way again he will be a great signing, if not there is very little lost. Neither Brown or Jeffers cost us any transfer fee. All the players brought in for the first team were seemingly signed at transfer fees that were lower than you might have expeceted to pay - so there seems to have been good work done negotiating. We had no choice on the fee for Bellamy but still made a profit, and made a £2.5m profit on Kuqi who we got for nothing last year. I'm sorry to see Kuqi go, but realistically he was now at best 4th choice and to get that sort of money for a squad player is too good to turn down. Overall we made a profit on transfers. It's been mentioned that we needed a new right winger and left back. In directly we have got those. Gallagher has returned from loan at Stoke and right wing is most likely to be where he can force his way into the side if he plays well enough. Emmerton has signed a new contract and also seems to have been persuaded to play right back. If he continues to play as well as he has done at right back, then playing left back is the only way Lucas Neill will be able to get into the side if everyone is fit. The only disapponting thing for me is that Lucas Neill didn't go during the transfer window. Don't get me wrong I hink he is a great player and strenghens the side and I would be delighted if he signs a new contract - however - I fear that all that will happen now is that he will sign a pre-contract agreement with Liverpool in January and leave for nothing at the end of the season. I think we would have been better off with even £2m cash or a straight swap for Warnock.
