  1. I voted for Noel. Duff may be a better player, but a 'greatest player' for me is someone who gave me real enjoyment, and I remember as a kid that Noel actually made me want to watch football (at Ewood, but footie in general). He may have beem in a relatively mediocre, but he created a buzz at school when we talked about the Rovers. I met him once - after a hard day on the decorating job (his post football career) he came in the pub in Revidge where I was working. A real gent, no airs and graces at all. RIP Noel, you were bloody good!
  2. Andy Cole has pride of place on the wall next to my desk at work, holding the Worthington cup aloft by one handle (Souey holding the other), being sprayed with champagne. I watched the final in a pub in Ruislip, entirely surrounded by Spurs fans, and really had to watch myself as they started to see it slipping away. What happy memories, and for that I reckon Andy deserves a thankyou when he comes back. He wasn't black, he was blue and white.
  3. Jim's point about the club making an early statement is a good one. But you could argue that it's the fans who have really been put in the dock by our wonderful media. At the risk of giving the story legs, what might be the value of this MB putting out a statement to the effect that regardless of whether the accusations are correct we abhor any racist chanting etc. And, if the accusations are true, as real fans we would support the expulsion of the guilty. Unlike the Parkes fiasco, it would be nice if all those with an interest in the club are on the front foot in relation to the media.
  4. I find it hard to believe Parkes found out via The Sun. Having seen at close hand how the media report on the organisation I work in, they rarely report with accuracy, especially where there is an opportunity to create a story based upon internal strife. But more to the point, Parkes is a realist - I'm sure if we looked at the archives we would find a statement from him each time a new incumbent arrives stating that he realises all new managers want their own team. (I found the situation difficult enough when I was suddenly managing someone who had been a peer.) Thanks for the fantastic and loyal service Tony. I'm sure you will know that we all wish you the very best for the future.
