Sheffield Wednesday have only scored 36 goals this season (only 12 away from home) which is the second lowest in the Championship and their last six matches have yielded six points. As a team they have only scored 12 more goals than Szmodics. The only statistic in which they better us is goals conceded and the difference there is only four. They will come full of commitment and fight. If we match that I expect a comfortable win. As ever the first goal will be huge.

Sadly in our season the word comfortable is not one I would associate with a a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. This lot have been unlucky and the new manager has given them hope. And they are fighters. I hope Leeds or Sunderland  Rovers turn up not Bristol City Rovers.

I think it may be 1-1. And we might end up happy with that after a close shave.

Hyam, Brittain and Szmodics were all signed under GB. Plus Chrisene and Moran who can on are GB signings.

We need a decent budget in the summer to sign a quality striker and keep improving the squad in some areas. Similar transfer budget to what we had in the first summer under GB like 5 to 7 million pounds. Any way that's discussion for another job

    correct

Sunderland lack direction on and off the pitch. Mowbray complained about the lack of experience in the squad which I think is younger than ours is. Mowbray was always going to the sack since the summer cos they were rumours he would be sack that summer.

They need to start over again and have a different plan but actually give the head coach some say in transfers which I don't believe the head coach does there unlike our model which does.

    From Sunderland  AFC News

“As much as there’s pressure on Dodds and the players to finish the season on some kind of high, there’s arguably even more pressure on owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and sorting director Kristjaan Speakman.

The pair have arguably landed the club in this predicament with some poor transfer planning and managerial decisions.

Sunderland lack quality across the pitch and experience overall, and with a manager to hire in the summer, it’s certainly making for a critical pre-season on Wearside.”

FYI The owner has  a 64% ownership. Oh and he is 26.

Probably thinks he is playing 3D FIFA.

  3. Fine result at the perfect time for us. Attackers have confidence and defence playing well.

We need that winning feeling around the dressing room. Confidence fuels momentum. Hope we can give some of the hopefuls  a run for their money now.

We were a hopeful this time last season.

Things are going well for us right now, we're aiming successive promotions and a return to the Premier League for first time since Blackburn won the League Cup.     It's been a mess for the most part, some 15 years of doing next to nothing watching Marcus Evans single handily attempting to sink a once proud club name without trace and a succession of absolute dire managerial appointments, one after the other, attempt and fail while we had to watch the parade go by.

But things are different now.   I could never place McKenna on a plateau with Robson and Ramsey but he's the best without question since George Burley and made us competitive and scoring goals almost freely.     Mark Ashton has made a big difference too but many fans were sceptical since he was hated at Bristol City but in all fairness, he's been part of a revolution that has really taken off and a vital piece of the jigsaw as to where we now find ourselves.    The new ownership was always a risk but right now people are just trying to focus on the positives.

Trips to Blackburn in the past were usually eventful.    The final day draw 30 years ago that saved our season, winning in the F.A. Cup when you were League Champions etc and tomorrow should prove another exciting chapter.      We'll know what is required at kick off time as our nearest rivals will have already played their fixtures.        Some of our players like Broadhead and Moore may have minds elsewhere after the unfortunate Wales failure to qualify a couple of days ago but we have a lot of strength in depth and can call on names from the bench if needed if the game doesn't flow our way.

Seems unfair to call out on a rival fans message board over who's going to win or lose but all you can ask for is an entertaining game with both teams going for it and the referee doesn't need to get involved much.    I know you have some standout players who can cause us and other opponents problems and remember this season we've already been beaten by both Cambridge and Stevenage not to mention Maidstone in a home game.    Were a goal ahead at Cardiff just recently some 8 minutes into additional time and still somehow managed to lose.     The thing with us, we sometimes can't see out games from winning positions or lose focus at critical times.      If Blackburn are to win this you need to take advantage of such vulnerabilities.    We can be got at and exposed, particularly as some key names like Burns won't be featured.     I hope it's a good game, may the best team win really.

Welcome to the pleasure dome. I know too much about Town  My brother is a fan. Funny how all your truly sh#te managers recently were called Paul.

The stars have aligned for you. Owners with a vision and increasing investment. An outstanding manager whose time has come and very good signings for the right positions. I wish you well and that you gain promotion without having to play Norwich in the play offs.

With one proviso. You gift us 1-0 victory in the 80th minute. You don’t need the away points.  We need the home points.

May the most needy team win 😉

A club going in right direction, on and off the pitch. I still believe we will beat them at Ewood 🤷‍♂️

Incredible momentum. They  have bought very well  indeed. And Travis has a point to prove.

Interesting  side note that two graduates of our loan school academy did well for England U21. We certainly paved the way for Elliott.

We don't have many goals in us and Ipswich have plenty. They will run out very comfortable winners in this one.

Our game plan at the moment is about keeping it tight and nicking a goal. That won't work against the better teams (it didn't even work against the lesser teams!).

i agree. They can score from virtually anywhere and usually do in injury time.

I am sure Travis will want to play a blinder for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons has left us which will disappoint him.

I also think we can get something from Ipswich at home, end of the day they are performing well above expectations but the majority were playing league 1 football until recently , we have to impose ourselves early and not let them get confident. They have a really good winger so full backs will need good games

And we certainly don’t want a slow centre back against their forwards. Morsy in midfield makes Travis look like a cherub.

I’ve been as critical as anyone of Eustace and the style of football we’ve played under him up until now, but last night showed that hopefully he will look to evolve the style, as the players showed (again) that not only are they more than capable of playing decent, progressive football, but they also look much more comfortable doing so than the more agricultural style of late.
We went toe to toe with a very good Premier League team and, for the vast majority of that game (the 10 mins either side of ht aside) we did so without resorting to aimless punts and still looked solid defensively and also looked dangerous going forward too.

But it’s also frustrating, because if they had been sent out to play like that in the games at Brum and Cardiff then I’m certain we’d now have at least 3 points more, maybe 5.
Let’s hope he’s learned ahead of 3 massive games next week.

Incidentally, I thought we looked a lot more fluent and balanced after McFadzean had gone off and we went to essentially a 4-4-2.
I’d like to see us start games like this, especially at home, and keep the option of bringing McFadz off the bench to shore things up late on in games after we’re (hopefully) ahead.

To be fair we have been walking on eggshells to get points.

JE doesn’t want to ship goals and take us down. Hopefully this game has boosted our confidence and we have many more options, as everyone showed their capabilities.  An opportunity to play  more off the front foot.

What pleased me so much was that we subbed three pivotal players and brought on three relative unknowns and they rose to the task.

I thought brittain started very well but seems to tire quickly(similar with Dolan)

I think Sigurdsen has struggled to find a position that suits him for us,I like Garret and his tenacity (not going to be a sensational player, but I think he'll be a solid cm at this level) but he's not ready to be a regular starter

Funny to think we played that well without Jrc and Tronstad (who you'd normally think are 2 of our best senior players)

Oh and Adam Wharton, who the commentator mentioned played a blinder against Burnley and must have left a big hole. Not tonight.

Bit of a hard question to answer. I could list a ton of centrebacks and you could tell me no.

All that being said, Harry Maguire took one of the best penalties I've ever seen in the final of the Euros. Bet you wouldn't put him on a list of penalty-takers.

All down to who feels comfortable taking them. How they feel going into it. What the plans were beforehand. We're not privy to all of that, so it is pretty difficult to be critical.

Had Ayari missed you probably would have said you didn't want a 20-year-old loanee taking one. I thought Newcastle took the biggest risk by having a fresh sub take one.

Luck of the draw at a certain point.

Let’s not forget the Championship’s leading goal scorer missed the first. We were always on the back foot after that and clawed back.

But it helps ( remember Jack Walker ).

Jack was a hometown boy who made his money and gave it back to his community club. Perfect culture fit. The money of course helped

Chelsea, Man United, Newcastle, not so much.

Good culture at Ipswich now after a succession of Bobbins managers and owners.

The money men beat the money men.

I am not so sure you could call the Liverpool subs money men.

As a football fan it gave me enormous pleasure to see very inexperienced players lifting that trophy. Very much down to an extraordinary manager. As someone said, not many managers love their players. Klopp loves his players.

I may be wrong but I am getting the feeling that Eustace has a deeper bond with the players than JDT did. He seemed more aloof and was more concerned about his own career path.

What I do know is that money can’t buy a thriving and positive culture in a football club or any organization.

Pears and the centre backs don't pass around at the back but clear the lines and kick more cos we don't want to take much risk at the back and we set up more pragmatic now whilst playing some decent stuff.

Set Plays are put into the box and yesterday we show we can score goals from them.

We didn't do play hoofball as the poster said but we sometimes play balls down the sides of the centre back which turns their defenders and then pushes them back creating spaces for our attacking players.

I was massive fan of JDT but to be honest, it had reach the end cos he didn't want to be here anymore, Its seems like the players lost confidence in him and maybe him in them.

I do think he would have taken us to PL if he had been backed in the summer and I was disappointed he wasn't.

I wish him well in the future.

And Harvey Elliott lifts the Carabao cup.

The kids beat the money men. Building a team of youngsters that can win is a good strategy.

But you need a big Mac or Van Dijyk at the back to give confidence.

Eustace has to get the best out of our youngsters by building the confidence again and getting the senior players hungry again.

I think he can do it once we are out of the brown stuff.
