Like Paul Hunt did. We all remember his letter he sent to Mrs D.

Paul Hunt also aked for a pay rise at the same time let's have the full story if you're going down that road.  The guy was 100% after his pay off he knew questioning Keane and Anderson was the death knell for him but he stepped up and took the bullet.

No manager is going to do that to any owner. To think otherwise is quite honestly crazy talk

Don't be so bloody clueless man the world isn't full of sunshine and rainbows there'll be all sorts of rows go on between managers/chairmen and owners.

It's stupid and ridiculously naive to think otherwise it's all about having the balls to step up to the plate.  Those in little self preservation societies never will.

Mercer, another prediction from you. have you apply for the TV Show Tipping point yet?

Any manager wait for his bosses to tell him, otherwise you would be fired.

The board of directors of MD or CEO are there to do what is in the best interests of the club and team not themselves.

Seeing as we don't really have that it falls to the manager & his sidekick so they should press the issue as the matter of urgency it is. And let the owners know in no uncertain terms that it's holding their club and team back badly if they don't get on with it.

But what about tracking back, tackling , being fit enough to keep moving off the ball, having the discipline to defend set pieces ? Qualities that the likes of Raheem Sterling have but can Prince Harry make the effort ?

No doubt the player himself is largely at fault here but why did they chuck such a decent contract at him when it was a big risk, he was already injured and nobody else would've touched him ?

Another of TM and his mates little projects here methinks and another that's blown up in his face. If the little plonker won't graft he should've been hauled across the coals ages ago but he's just winging it on his fat contract whilst his arse gets fatter.

Then again he probably sees them spend 5 million on a striker to play wide, sees Samuel walk straight back in and Brereton take up the cameo spot when fit. He probably thinks what's the point.

Another jobs for the boys gone wrong here.

  5. If he is the Mr BRFC some like to make him out to be he should have been on the blower to Pune daily for the past week.  But he won't will he he'll be a good boy and wait in line to be told what to do whilst protecting his million pound contract.

As for Waggot well he's probably sitting waiting for Tony to tell him what to do, in front of a load of pre arranged contract extensions for the pals if the money comes good.

The pandemic should mean its harder to get inflated prices for the likes of Lenihan. Who’s paying £8million in this market?

But who knows. Football is a law in unto itself, so transfers may just carry on as normal (though if it does then the sport deserves to collapse).

Hanley & Duffy went for around 4 million a piece having clocked up quite a few Championship and International games. I know it was a few years back but considering the pandemic i don't see Lenihen being worth double at the min.

He's still in the 4-6 mill bracket i reckon Rovers would cash in at that price.

what I am saying is that by playing poor clubs will try for your players, once negotiations start anything can happen,

Have to agree with this agents acting on behalf of the club/player/themselves will go to any lengths to start balls rolling.

Remember Nixon constantly peddling the Rhodes to Bolton/Wigan line claiming Rovers couldn't pay the last installment and wanted his wages gone asap ?  Outright bullshit.

It's really odd that even a bot or 12 year old Coventry fan would dream up the Travis thing. He certainly won't be going there but like Rhodes a good Championship side might have his card marked and the water is being tested.

It feels like, we are the only club the daft prices don't apply to, unless we are buying of course.

We can't buy Gally and BB for £5/6m and sell much better players like Dack, AA or Trav for less.

    Bonkers.

I believe Gally was in the 3 million plus add ons range so that maybe about right but the Brereton deal imo stinks, a lot.

If ever a player should have been in the 1 to 2 million before add ons range it's him.

Maybe Nyambe, but not a chance with Travis imo

Remember we are talking before add ons, we got Armstrong for 1.75 initially.

Travis has no more standing that Nyambe at the min, other than being a midfielder probably less experience.  He doesn't have the Raya or TC pedigree either.  I could see a package for a decent fee but initially it could be very realistic it all depends on who and how many might have concrete interest.

Then there is his contract to take into account.

  10. 3 million bought Raya,  3  million bought Tom Cairney...

Let's just think about that when putting actual sale prices on some of these lads.  I could easily see Nyambe or Travis going for that of a bit less before add on's.

Armstrong and Dack will have the premium prices but maybe not as daft as some would think.

    Exactly.

Players like Samuel, Bennett, Williams, Bell etc should be the ones shown the door and the long term strategy should have been to upgrade on those, not flog our best players that we should be building the team around.

Some if not all of those should have been moved on before now but that's not how he works. I think some of the 'i build football clubs' spiel is a covering line for him keeping all the pals together.

    Nonsense

He didn’t drop in the ‘pHiL bRoWn’ trolling bit

Amazing how people stick to the ‘who else is there?’ Line but ignore when there are viable alternatives, anyone decent is dismissed in the following categories:

    ‘Failed at x/y/z’

    ‘Wouldn’t come here’

    ‘Wouldn’t work with Venkys’

Ignoring the fact the same people would have probably said the same about any prospective manager during Bowyer / Lambert / Coyles terms. At some point we have to be brave, no appointment would be a guaranteed success but standing still forever is also a recipe for disaster long term

Somebody assumes something and he is straight in with the old 'you know this how ?' line. Then in true hypocritical fashion runs around confindently stating nobody else will work for these owners whilst not telling us how he knows this.

There'd be an absolute barrow load of applicants for this job managers are mercenaries and the thought of the next pay off is as attractive as anything.  We just live in hope that a decent one eventually slips under the HSH old SEM net and gets their people in the Venky ear. Even they tipped up Mowbray who hasn't been bad and he on paper looked as bad as Coyle.

3 to 5 million pounds for Travis wouldnt buy his left foot. If clubs want our players then better come with double figure bids.

I think 1 will be gone

Aren't the bank of India loans with Venkys London limited?

Surely we should wait for Mowbray to get our budget which I believe will be this week

The overdraft is external debt it's what runs day to day stuff so if that hits its limit it needs paying down otherwise they call it in.

There are going to be more and more of these stories over the summer. For 2 main reasons, agents want their players out of Rovers and we are looking like we have to sell.

If we look at what is happening in India, Bank of India is having liquidity issues and calling in debt. For Rovers, the issue with that is they are more than likely to call in our £15m over draft to be paid pretty quickly (and this is a Rovers debt). For, Venkys the issue is they are unlikely to be able to raise funding for Rovers in their normal way.

So pretty quickly if the worst comes to it we may need to raise £30m this summer in player sales and reduced wages, to keep us afloat for the next season. With potentially £15-20m being needed in the next 6 weeks.

Pretty similar to a few years ago when all of a sudden everybody 'wanted' to leave even if they didn't know about it !

Still at least the agents will get some more business in what is otherwise set to be a difficult climate for them. I'm sure non of the friendly ones ate encouraging it of course.

Based on the rumours they left Huddersfield after a disagreement regarding transfer policy. Do you really believe that they would want to work with our owners ?

Standard Potato answer, rinse and repeat.

Only the Teeside football messiah can do it i hope there's some good bargains in the club shop in the inevitable closing down sale when he retires.

and don't forget Marshall Burke who was a key part of our success under Howard Kendall which very nearly finished with promotion to Division 1 (now the PL).

Mowbray talks about 'slow build and evolution' - feckin hell, Howard Kendall took us from Div 3 to Div 2 and then missed promotion to Div 1 the following season on goal difference.

In two seasons, Kendall worked miracles with virtually nothing to spend.  What he would have given for the then equivalent of some £20million (fees and wages), IMO, spunked up the wall by Mowbray on Brereton and Gallagher.

Kendall v Mowbray - no comparison - IMO, a master v a third rater.  Kendall had the lot - can do attitude, fitness, organisation, tactics, motivation, player trading management etc.

It's not long ago he was on about trying to use the promotion bounce.

All this season he's gone on about the transition to a possession team. Now it's a young vibrant exciting team on the front foot.

If there is one thing we've learned about Tony it's he's a nice humble football anorak.  If there's another it's he doesn't know which way the wind is blowing from one day to the next ?

The reality is, we cannot afford the type of quality players needed to get promoted so either have to unearth some gems abroad, get top quality players in on loan, or unearth some academy gems. If we get all three strategies spot on then we may have a chance.

But what we do have to do is when we find ourselves in a good position with games ticking down is have a bloody good go at it on the front foot.

For a club like us it's all going to be about staying around midtable and getting a winning run going at the right time. We aren't capable of running away with a top 2 spot but we are capable of a late charge into the top 6.

The mentality needs to be right for that though, it isn't imo.

I was randomly reading an article today about Dean Henderson and whether he can replace De Gea (paywalled: https://theathletic.com/1934279/2020/07/20/dean-henderson-sheffield-united-manchester-united/). Oddly enough, a lot of the article is centred around an interview with Ben Benson, as he coached Henderson when he was in Carlisle's academy and he apparently has remained a 'close confidante' of Henderson's ever since.

Not to suggest being Henderson's goalie coach at 14 makes him a good coach, but that's a respectable endorsement of sorts...

Probably similar name dropping as Preston with Beckham.
