  1. We were always more likely to head to league 1 under these lot than back to the Prem and so it came to pass.

Since bouncing back it has always been more likely we'd drop back again than even challenge the top 6 by May and so it'll come to pass whether it's this season or next or the one after.  Next time though it'll be a long hard old slog to even get back into the Championship.

There is only ever one way out of this doom cycle.

FYI, Jackson reported that GB said he'll do a post-transfer window interview during the international break, saying that he wanted to give Eustace some space before addressing it. (Not endorsing that btw, just saying FYI!)

I really can't imagine how he'll try to spin it... if rumours are to be believed that GB's ultimately heading off (I've had a soft spot for GB's seeming competence, but I can't give a fuck anymore either way), it should be SW in the firing line, but he'll probably hide as long as he can. Might as well let GB take another bullet on his way out...

Whatever the format of the interview, I only wish they'll be asked point blank 1) did A. Wharton push to be sold, 2) did we have to make that sale due to Venky's apparent inability to fund the club (and, as a follow-on if they claim FFP, run us through exactly how close we would have been to breaching FFP given budget cuts and also selling the likes of Kaminski and Phillips...)

They may insist Wharton wanted to leave, it wasn't due to Venky's inability pump in more cash, FFP, blah blah blah, but might as well get them on record as lying (will at least get a partial answer to the latter when the accounts come out over a year from now...)

Waggot will just trot out the tired old line 'when a Prem club comes calling' etc etc

  3. I always think setting out to sit back for a draw is asking for trouble but setting out to protect the 0 but showing some intent at the top end is justified.

If anyone knows what i mean.

Anyway i'd snatch the hand off for a point or three however they might come but still think we need to score first.

    Cheers!!

I’m doing the match day playlists regularly now so expect to hear a lot more of it… just got to persuade them to bin the Chilli Peppers so we can run out to it!

I came across loads of comments on a 90's Rave group on facebook going on about Hardcore Uproar etc.

Was good to read it caught the attention of non Rovers fans all over the country, even better knowing so many neutrals were watching our game.  Not seen so many complimentary comments aimed at Rovers for a long long time.

If Broughton is still a Rovers' employee by the end of March then I'll be hugely surprised.

What sort of contract will he be on i wonder ?

It it's similar to Waggot maybe there isn't one as such and either side has to give a notice period.

I don't think Eustace has ever referred to him although i may be wrong but if he's still in situ he'll still be the Head Coaches boss and his first port of call i assume.

Oh ok unless it's something new that's surfaced I saw a few comments last week about this on the forums. I think this was all ruled out as speculation, can't remember who but someone worked through the Coventry timeline and it didn't add up as mcfadz fleck JE and waggot weren't there at the same time as was alleged

It's an odd one as although there'll be connections even if timelines don't add up we have to take into account Broughton was always stating about continuity plans always being in place.  So it's hard to gauge whether he did or didn't have involvement in it all though not much point being here if he didn't.

As always it's the veil of silence that is the real issue but it does smack of returning to the previous way of working.

We're all accustomed to a less than half full Ewood, with next to zero atmosphere, and accompanying 'library' chants from the Darwen End.

Last night showed the other side of Ewood. A big crowd for once, a vociferous backing, and plenty to get behind both in the dugout and on the pitch.

When it's like that, Ewood remains a wonderful place in which to watch our team.

    Great stuff.

That's what Ewood was built for it always comes alive for games like that and is as good as anywhere in the country when everyone is up for it.

Sadly though a decade of middle of the road championship fare and a mostly negative or dour vibes emitting from the inner corridors means more often that not it's a white elephant to modern day Rovers.

Waggot enjoyed his champers hob nobbing with Shearer and his Geordie pals though so everything is fine in his corporate pandering world.

It's quite pathetic they are happy to have it a third full at times and do nothing about it when they know they could half fill it with home fans with a bold effort on pricing.

And it wouldn't affect the billionaire owners wallets one jot nor make much of a dint in the fabled 20 mill per season.

  8. Lineker is and always has been a knob this is a man who went an entire career and didn't get booked, probably because he never made a tackle.

If Mike Tyson was the Baddest Man on the Planet saint Gary was/is the biggest wetwipe.

Anyway from watching it back he managed to refrain from his usual sneering towards Rovers in order to respect big Al who was happily going on about his time here until the tax dodger swiftly changed the subject to Newcastle.

We had our 5 mins in other words.

  9. Yes have to say last night Wharton looked every bit the defender we thought he was going to become a few years ago. Think a lot of it is down to involvement and once he has his favoured position hes found his timing again.

It was way off under JDT when he was a bit part player.

Also in terms of style i really thought we should have been approaching games against Southampton away and the likes of Leics and Leeds at home in similar fashion.

One swallow doesn't make a summer but Eustace's overall management was excellent last night.  Let us just hope this will be replicated every game.

It was quite clear the 3 'coaches' calling the shots were Eustace, Gardiner and Downing.  Lowe cut a forlorn and peripheral figure and, hopefully, his career at Rovers is now over.

To be fair Lowe didn't seem to play much of a part under JDT either he was always slumped in his seat after doing his pre match bibs and cones bit.

Mowbray had them all a bit more involved for some reason but i agree the whole set up needs new ideas now.

In recent months I have not known what Siggy actually brings to the side, what he actually does as a footballer, I was concerned when he came on for the second half. Last night he showed it though, calmness on the ball and a quality of pass, the right weight etc bit of extra quality.

Agree and i was thinking the other night that if a manager like Allardyce came in he'd probably have him doing a role like Diouf did. Get him on the ball in a certain area and just win free kicks etc in positions to deliver into the box.

He's an odd player he doesn't have much pace or skill to beat his man but can still cause problems when he is involved around the box.  Still a bit too much of a luxury player for me who only seems to want to be involved in the final third for the 'look at me' moments.

Get him grafting and he'll be ok.

  12. Always shown signs he can be a steady number 1 behind a more pragmatic defensively organised team.

For me TK should have been reinstated last season and we might still have him now if that was the case but all that has been done and dusted.  Pears showed in his first stint he was ok as long as the team wasn't too open or dealing with too many set pieces and crosses.

JDTs style wasn't be the best for developing keepers in the basic art of goal keeping although it helped their footwork get some overtime !

End of the day they've made us into a development team so players in whatever position are learning on the job and unfortunately are going to make their mistakes, cost us and we have to lump it.  The ones with the real ability right mentality and coaching will come through it though and improve.  Biggest thing in the case of Pears is the change of style and tighter work on all defensive situations.

He needed to improve on set pieces/crosses and still does but nice to see he's adding Kaminski like reflexes to his armoury now as well.

Confidence is the real improvement tool though.

Although no point getting excited Waggot will have him out the door to pay the bills before he's anywhere near the finished article !

  13. I thought Siggy was ok when he came on but he really does need to track back more and more importantly get moving when hes either lost it or passed it to a team mate outside the box.

Was a time or two last night he dropped into midfield, passed then just stood there as the team broke forward.  Got to support team mates at all times going fwds sideways or back in this league if you want to make an impact.

Think it's a mental thing with him it needs hammering home what you have to do, get to grips with that he ca be a more important contributor.
