  1. Parched peas, that was it, bloody hell.

It's funny how something once regarded as delicious would probably make you run a mile these days. I used to love that fair turning up every year, living at the top of fernhurst street as a child looking down on all the lights, noise and screams from the rides was brill.

Only to find later in life (wearing blue serge and a funny hat)that a lot of the blokes working on the rides were sex offenders :o

Just out of curiosity...how did you find such a thing out? Did you avidly search for the info or did these people mention it in passing?

  2. Could you explain how you came by that notion? The current diversion is about a religion (not a race) which specifies ritual slaughter involving needless and pointless suffering and forbids modern humane slaughter methods. It is about hallal and kosher slaughter methods not bushmeat! Please give that some thought before commenting so flippantly in future.

It was just a joke in reference to the number of times a thread has mentioned religion on here, that's all. No offence intended Gord. And for the record, I do agree that these religious slaughter methods are quite appauling. It wouldn't stop me eating the meat though.

  3. Halal, Kosher or whatever else it must be called. In the end it is food, and while there are many religious people who do care, I would warrant that the majority don't give one about how an animal is killed. It is food.

I'll admit the double standards of only buying free-range food where possible

  4. It always puzzled me why a big game is never released in January.

All the kids (and me) get vouchers for xmas but they generally have the games when they come out now and so have nothing to by in January.

A half decent game would surly make a killing as oppose to going up against the likes of Assassins Creed and Call of Duty in November/December

I think it's because people get addicted to the games they got at xmas over January (possibly because of the packed xmas schedule). I know that I wouldn't get a new game until February at earliest having got a game or 2 for xmas.

  5. I am going to the game wearing a black armband. I will also take a letter (addressed to John's spirit and his family) to place by Jack's statue, together with my ticket and coach slip for the game (all with 'RIP John Taylor x' written on), a 'Blues Bar' beermat on which I rested a pint after toasting his memory. I will also hold aloft the LET's from Monday ('Rovers mourn death of fan, 30') and today ('Let's win it for John') during the minute's silence.

  6. Feeling the same way Bryan but it's an emotion that's so hard to put in to words. No offence intended, but surreal and pathetic sums it up for me, too.

Bang on B4E. I almost feel guilty just for having been at the game. It's gutting. Feel pretty hollow.

  7. The Sun newspaper makes me sick, where do they get these vile headlines from about the tragic incident! Johns mum says in the LT that the police told her the bin has hit him on the back of the head following it being chucked around, but the sun makes it out to be game that has gone wrong as if it's done at every home game.

I will never buy that paper again!

    R.I.P John

What was reported in the Sun is what many people believed had happened, so i'm not shocked by their report. But it is rather shoddy journalism if they cba researching what happened to a fan who died at the football! I wouldn't expect any less from a red-top paper.

  8. First time on the mb since the game and I've been inconsolable since the game. I can't believe that a devastated family aren't going to see Joh n Taylor return home from the football. It put the game in perspective. I had to ceck the score later at night. John's death really puts footy into perspective. May God rest his soul x

  9. Me and my girlfriend are considering which restaurant to go to for Valentines day, and one of the restaurants we've talked about is San Carlo in Manchester. Have heard that it is supposed to be good, but after reading reviews on the internet I'm not sure what to think. The reviews of the place are mixed, some says its amazing whilst other says its awful. Nothing in between. But a lot of celebs are going there aren't they, so it can't be that bad? Or are they just treating big paying customers better other people?

Anyone know anything how the prices are like?

Some restaurants I like in Manchester is:

    - Kro2, Oxford Road: Nice food, nice place, decent prices.

    - Cafe Rouge, Printworks: Really nice food, nice staff and decent prices.

    - Moso Moso, Oxford Road: Thai/Chinese food. Amazing food, a bit pricey but worth it! Banquet B is recommended (btw do NOT try the spicy soup as a starter, unless you want to be thirsty of course <img src="http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )

    - Bella Italia, Deansgate and Picadilly gardens: Nice food and decent prices.

San Carlo WAS good, but is a little lacking in atmosphere at times. Plenty of celebs/footballers in there for people-watchers though.

Of the restaurants you mentioned, I'd go with Either Bella Italia or Cafe Rouge. Also try San Rocco which is on the other side of Deansgate to San Carlo and a block further up. It's a little bit tucked away, but very good quality Italian (but the don't do Pizza's grrrrrr).

  10. A truly great post! You have a fantastic way with words!

However, it is hard to actually stay clear of Halal meat in Blackburn and surrounding towns.

My Chinese is and always will be Hollytree but my delivery chinese (when i have had a few sherberts) has now changed to Halal, the Subway chain at the top of Montague Street is, KFC in Burnley is and so on.

Good job i can make a fantastic curry at home eh? (Lamb, spinach and chickpea - YUM!)

Agreed. And get this in the recipes thread! I love lamb curries, but could never make a decent one!

  11. I would have LOVED him to stay, but he evidently wanted to leave and engineered his eventual move away from the club (and THAT's what got on my tits). However, I will recall fondly his goal against Arsenal and the many times where he won us vital points. His attitude stinks at times, but he was an awesome footballer. Should he play at Ewood again, I will gladly applaud a man who was arguably 2nd only to Tugay in terms of footballing ability. I wish Benni well, but if his heart wasn't in it, I didn't want him here.

  12. Overweight/unfit/lazy/frustrating whatever. He was an entertainer and I'll miss watching him. Like Tugay he stood apart from the rest and proved a diversion for us from the ordinary and the mundane. Giving us the opportunity to see such worldwide talent at Ewood Park is a privelige and lasting legacy of the Walker years.

But it was time for him to go and so thats that.

For once, I agree entirely Gord.
