You're on form today! Need something to lighten the mood after the latest round of unattainable targets we're only prepared to offer 50% of the asking price for, or not even make a bid at all. -

Used to post absolute garbage on here, including the fact he thought the Jack Walker legacy was somewhat over-rated in his opinion and was also quite supportive when Waggott floated the phantom proposals to sell half of Brockhall and build a brand new super duper training complex. Also quite obviously a disciple of analysis and data. One question he never seemed able to answer was your army of analysts spend all their time feeding in your requirements to the computer and come up with suggestions that either ,are out of reach fee wise or in terms of wages. What use is that? Be interesting to see how he does and whether the data led approach works at the lowest level. -

Because your point makes no sense. You're assuming he'll have a bad season next time out due to his age and there's no evidence to date to suggest that will be the case. I'm guessing then, you'd didn't like Kevin Moran or Tony Gale either? -

Lol. At least he's being honest and isn't giving it the " I saw them on TV when I was a kid and have been a Rovers fan all my life" spiel. -

Tbf I'm not even sure if Tavares' injury has been confirmed - I've only seen it mooted he was out for 4 weeks by some bod on Twitter. -

I think with players of that age you have to park the number for a moment and examine how well they've actually performed. Someone cited examples earlier of players who'd been given two year deals in the past who shouldn't have been. I'd argue it was clear that Downing was slowing down mid way through his first deal and shouldn't have got another one and tbh I never rated Ayala in the first place. I wouldn't have given Weimann another deal either as I'm not sure his ability to pop up occasionally in the right place at the right time compensated for the fact his legs have gone. Edit: McFadzean was a lot older than Batth and again imo should never have been given a second deal On the other hand although a similar age to Weimann, Batth's powers showed no sign of waning last season. As such on a one year deal he represents no more of a risk than any other player. Bloody hell, we've spent E3m on Kargbo and Tavares and it seems they can barely make it through a training session between them! -

Don't understand your beef with Batth. Signing him up for another 12 months was an absolute no brainer. I wouldn't have bothered with Weimann personally. -

"Exciting summer" = all our senior players walking out for nothing or being sold for a relative pittance due to their contractual situation. -

Another "race". Wasn't it Nixon who said years ago that when three Clubs were rumoured to be interested in a player there was rarely anything in it, it was just the agent trying to drum up some interest? "The 3 Club rule" he called it. -

Agreed. I dont even think Kaminsky is that great but he's a country mile ahead of our two, neither of whom are anywhere near the standard required imo. -

Not a chance. He didn't even want it. He's comfortable at the level he's at and it paid off.

At a normal Club, Dolan and Batth would have been re-signed without as much as a second thought. It would just have been a by line in passing in the local rag that they'd penned new deals. -

You would certainly hope so! They'd have to be long enough to cover the play offs though. Not that we ever make them. -

Do you pay the wages of loanees until June 30th or merely until the end of the playing season? It seems to be rubbing salt in the wound to have to pay the wages of the likes of Dennis and Woodrow whilst they go on their jollies. -

What a load of nonsense - whilst I'm sure Derby will be offering him more money than we are, who do you think will finish higher in the table this season? Us or Derby?. I'd be astounded if it's us. As for the money he's being offered I'd wager he's been on a ludicrously low wage up to now for a Championship player and that we've offered him that plus a pound or similar to stay simply so we can get compensation, not expecting him for one minute to be interested in re-signing. -

Seemingly Derby are preparing to spend big on a striker. Meanwhile Our DOF has proudly delivered the inspiring message that the days of us parting with a large fee for a player are over. I'd suggest that has a bit more to do with it than the respective distances from his doorstep. -

Shows how intolerable it must have been working for the 3 stooges. What manager worth his salt would actually want to bob along indefinitely, never aiming for or achieving any success, but maybe developing and selling on a player or two if we're lucky? -
150th Anniversary game V Derby County

I know we get the "it's not 1995 anymore" jibes thrown our way occasionally by opposing fans, the rather strange section of our support who are still supportive of Venky's or Tony Mowbray, but I disagree strongly we should play down the Jack Walker era. With all due respect to winning the League in 1911 and 1913 the 1995 Title win is probably the jewel in the crown of our illustrious history and should be celebrated as such. That said, we all know that the Footballing Authorities have shifted the goalposts since Jack's time in order to preserve the status quo for the biggest Clubs and prevent smaller ones from realistically competing for the top honours but with astute management and proper support from fully invested owners there is no real reason why we couldn't one day be a well run Premier League Club along the lines of Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham etc. Whilst we had a financial advantage for a short time back in Jack's day, that was no absolute guarantee of success, he could quite easily have chucked a load of money at it and not got anywhere. It was all about getting the right people in on and off the pitch and creating the right environment for them to succeed. Financial advantage or not, what he achieved was phenomenal and is something to be celebrated not played down. It's a beacon of hope to the sorts of things that can actually be achieved if you get things right.- 31 replies

Because, (according to one or two accounts on here) they went back on promises made to Eustace after he kept us up and he even had to be talked out of leaving and sweetened up with some last minute transfer activity as early as last summer. The fault does not lie with either manager although I would say JDT threw the towel in in very disappointing fashion towards the end of his tenure.
