  1. You cant read much into the game but Mainoo moreso off his United form in competitive games is clearly very talented and when beside Rice we are so poor in that deeper area with Gallagher, Henderson and Phillips nowhere near the standard required, he has to not only be in the squad but competing with Trent for a start.

The defence is a huge concern, Dunk is nowhere near it, nor is Chilwell and nor is Maguire when fit. Pickford is not this mythical 100% reliable keeper for England either.

I dont think any of the likes of Toney, Watkins, Gordon or Bowen are anywhere near certain of a place. I feel like in attack we have plenty of good Premier League players but a level or two below the main 4 of Saka, Foden, Bellingham and Kane. They have to stay fit.

Belgium seem to have been written off post "golden generation" but they could do well with such a threat in attack. Not sure they will have a chance of winning it but they could go far. Germany with players like Wirtz and Musiala could thrive as the home team too.

  2. I wonder if its a case of the club refusing to release something official or them agreeing to use a third party who will not ask the pressing questions, for example whether we genuinely will try again for McGuire.

Either way, it further opens our eyes to the clear lack of people working together and the lack of autonomy below the owners. Plenty of uncertainty as to mere suggestions as to what happens next. Just a mess as we all knew.

  3. We often mention the imbalances in previous teams but I suppose the current team has them, one top centre back and then an absence of quality beyond that. The same in central midfield and issues at left back too.

Those issues are heightened by the selections that Southgate does make. Even amidst average alternatives, Maguire and Henderson/Gallagher are still really poor choices.

  4. I dont think people are overreacting to the friendly, numerous people have commented on how the current set of friendlies are totally unnecessary.

Southgate has a poor record in general against big nations. That and too much loyalty towards underperforming players in our weak positions perhaps show he is anything but a quality manager. Lets hope United are stupid enough to take him.

Well, the likes of Waggott and Broughton (and Mowbray before them) are or were only interested in feathering their own nests and doing the bare minimum to keep the gravy train rolling on as long as possible.

Why do the owners let them get away with it? Probably because they can afford it and don't care enough and can't be arsed to put more effort in to try and change things and make us successful.

Broughton and Mowbray in particular would have both benefitted significantly financially and in terms of their CVs with promotion.

  6. The thing with the current squad aswell is that we have Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Kane, Stones, Walker and Rice, those 7 are the ones (especially the front 4) that has us down as favourites to win tournaments.

But then beyond that, theres a massive drop and we are weak in a number of positions. In midfield besides Rice, its either convert a RB in Trent, play a young player in Mainoo who has barely played any football or what Southgate will do, stick with a player in Henderson who is long past it or someone like Phillips or Gallagher who are clearly absolutely nowhere near the standard of challenging for tournaments. At centre back, beside Stones there is a huge drop off again. Maguire, Dunk, Konsa, none of these again are of the level to challenge. And at left back, it will either be go with a rusty Shaw and rush him back which never works, go with the useless Chilwell or stick someone out of position.

Even with some world class players doing heavy lifting, im not sure you can have 3 players that arent up to standard. And thats before you consider the manager.

  7. This whole international window is totally pointless, no one really wants to be there and you have players at the business end of the season at club level risking injury for no reason.

Not really much will be learnt. If we go into games with the best playing Chilwell, Gallagher and Maguire, we will struggle to win.

Not singing the bloody anthem 🙂

Seriously though, deployed left of a front three, doesn't suit him. And the penalty taken by hopelessly out of form Evan Fergusan rather than the redhot new guy??

Knowing our luck this clown (O'Shea) will get a result in the 2 friendlies and get the job full time. It will be Steve Staunton all over again.

Its not fun having Waggot and Venkys running you international team too.

Szmodics missed his penalties v Rotherham and in the Newcastle shootout.

    - McGuire..........doesn't say why we the permanent transfer got cancelled. We know Gregg. They were 'disappointed not to get it over the line'. Down the human error. He seems miffed and blaming the 'directors'.

    - Big difference to the O'brien fiasco....he doesn't take accountability for the McGuire farce.

    - He mentions JDT plenty of times - clearly not over that or anything to do with him going. Said he chose JDT when he came in.

    - Says 'things came to a head' with JDT in Dec/Jan and a change was inevitable (I reckon he knew about the Sweden thing). Does NOT say he chose Eustace. Did claim Kidderminster were the 'Barcelona of non-league football....

    - Says he has no idea what the transfer budget or wage budget is, unlike in 2022 the first window.

    - Ben Rosen found Szmodics apparently. Good job he has left then...

    - Says it was Wharton's agent and Adam that pushed for the move once Crystal Palace came in. States Rovers wanted to keep him until the end of the season.

    - Swerves the question on reinvesting the Wharton money. Read....we aren't going to see any. Talks about investing it across the '4 key areas of the club'. Recommended it gets spent over the 'long term'. States the summer investment won't be affected.

    - Goes on again about young players and style of play.

    - Suhail is gatekeeper to the owners.

The guy interviewing him did a good job. Didnt give him an easy ride.

    Oh my.....we are a mess.

Do you think the interviewer was good? I thought he lacked knowledge and once he had asked a question, he moved on and never probed further for clarity.

The crap about having a tight squad is a necessity because the budget isn't competitive enough to have an average sized squad.

I consider anything other than promotion to the premier league as failure under venkys.

They bought a top ten premier league side. That is the minimum I will accept from them.

My point was that we were in far healthier positions that we could have pushed on from at the two times mentioned compared to having come up with a squad in League 1 that was too good for that level but many of whom were not playere that you could build a promotion push around.

But as ever, the way we are run by the owners prevents us from pushing on.
