  1. Anyone know if tickets are still available? On Rovers website it can't find any? I would be surprised if we sold out, but then we always do have a good following in London...
  2. We have posts discussing the next five games but in the spirit of one game at a time let's talk about Luton. By the way I will settle for five 1-0 wins now, not being greedy or anything. There are plenty expecting us to hammer an outfit which was in League 2 when we were sending expeditionary forces around the nether regions of League 1. And to be honest, having watched a bit of Luton's recent games I have to agree Luton look to be vulnerable for a thrashing at Ewood the way they play. Assuming Tosin's knock is recovered and Rothwell has no more guts left to throw up I would play both and go Walton Wing backs Bennett and Downing Three at the back Adarabioyo Lenaghan Williams Midfield Johnson Hotby Offensive midfield Rothwell Dack Gallagher DG up top Reasoning is Luton play a flat back four zonal marking so there are plenty of opportunities to get round them, in between them and half chances are gifted plentifully which I would entrust Graham with more than anyone else. Luton also have a flat line across the edge of their area which they don't come forwards to block from so having scored from outside the area in each of our last two games there is a definite opportunity to make it three goals from distance in a row for Rovers. Also worth noting Luton defence are neither the quickest nor strongest. They do rely heavily on having an excellent keeper. Going forward Luton tend to play through the middle and strike on sight of goal. That would favour having the back three working together for Rovers. Not making a prediction beyond expecting an open game.
  3. So there is an evening with Matt Jansen on Friday 27th of this month. Tickets are £15 and £10 for the 1875 crew. anybody going ?
  4. Upcoming away game at Reading. 800 Tickets Sold for this one, with on the day ticket sales not incorporated. What do we think, can we improve on last years performance at Reading? Should Travis come back into the side? Or should Buckley continue?
  5. Well pals a very importantmatch to us we are on a bad position on table but we only need 3 more points to be on top again... I know that much of you aren't happy with the development from our Rovers by far but let's face it what did you spect against many of the stongest rivals in this division...i think we had showed actually that we have a enough competitive squad and that we can aspire to top 10 this season... Millwall is the first of some much more doable matches i belive on my colors and i know we can do it. We only need to pass the ball constantly and quick enough keep focus the complete 90 minutes and they will be lost... We have better offensive and midfield I spect another great macth from Downing and a victory from our Rovers by 2-0 #ImRoversTillIDie #COYBB #TheMexicanRover
  6. Again, fair prices from the baggies, top priced ticket at £20 is very good. Whos on that one?
  7. I thought this thread had been started, but I can't find it. Apologies if I missed it Nice game to have to test where we are at. A win here and things will be looking bright. I still have concerns about our strength in depth in some areas, but I think we have a better 11-14 than last season. Huge pity Cunningham can't play, I was getting used to us having a 75% Irish backline A few dilemmas for Mowbray now, the left back position one, but the the main one being does he start Graham. Any word on what Breretons injury is? I would go with the following. I just think Bell is so shot in confidence and ultimately ineffective , that I would chance Hart. If the Cunningham signing has in any way kicked Bell up the arse, then maybe him, but I would have big doubts. The issue I am beginning to find most perplexing, even in light of improved performances is Armstrong over Rothwell. I don't know if we can hope Johnson and Downing will play every game, but it's pretty clear that the two of them are quality that we have lacked for a good few years, arguably since we went down. Walton Bennett Lenihan Williams Hart Travis Johnson Rothwell Dack Downing Gallagher As for Cardiff. Neil Warnock manages them, they signed Flint. I think we all know what we can expect from them. Will be a scrap.
  8. I couldn't see anything for this so thought would try and get some debate going as it is only just over 24 hours away I am going to go for a dull 0 - 0 I think here. I am going to go for a shock and say that we will for once name the same XI
  9. So, what are peeps expectations for this one? Based off of the Oldham game it's difficult to guess who'll play. Most will agree Cunningham looks better than Bell, but the fact we've shipped Two Goals in all three games so far would suggest perhaps we should be looking to play defensively on Saturday? Graham up top? What would you go with?
  10. Two founder members of the Premier League. Both with 100% losing records to date. Something will have to give Tuesday night. For Oldham, this is a free hit so I expect them to field their strongest side and come at us. Even a L2 side might embarrass or current defensive nightmare so I half expect Rovers to be caught napping in this one. For us, injuries permitting, but whatever back 4 is intended for Saturday has to start against Oldham just as a "Hello, I am Greg and I'm a left back" sort of exercise. Wouldn't be averse to pairing Travis with Buckley in the centre and giving Chapman a run-out. Would be nice to see Brereton start.
  11. After the debacle of Charlton I'd like to see us go with something totally different from the norm, lets face it we're going to get mullered anway. 4-4-2 - Walton, Nyambe, Tosin, Lenihan, Bell, Rothwell, Travis, Johnson, Downing, Brereton, Gallagher. Subs - Leutwiler, Mulgrew, Bennett, Chapman, Armstrong, Dack, Graham No doubt it will be the same tired players, trying to play in whatever weird formation TM has them working on this week. 3-0 Fulham, so happy i booked trains for this when the fixtures were released ?
  12. Don't know if I'm stepping on the toe's of anyone wanting to do the match thread but I thought I'd do one to get the conversation started. Not long till kick off now, doesn't seem that long ago since the last season finished and the manager currently has us in a weaker position (defensively) than what we were in last season. We have a tough start to the season so for me this is already a must win game, considering our home form is what kept us from being in a relegation battle last season. As far as our starting 11 goes, it's hard to predict right now considering we could still sign 3 first team players. In an attacking sense the manager will have somewhat of a headache but I imagine Graham will start ahead of Gallagher and I think Dacky, Armstrong and Rothwell will still be nailed on starters, though I would like to see more of Chapman. I imagine Johnson and Trav will play holding midfield. Trying to guess our defence right now is almost impossible. Will he still play Bennett at right back? (please god no) Hopefully it will be Nyambe following some stand out performances in the African Cup of Nations. Lennihan is nailed on to start at centre half, along side who is anyone's guess. Left back is a position I felt strongly about improving and I'm sure many of us felt the same but obviously the manager doesn't agree (how? I have no idea), so it's looking like Bell will continue there. All this is based on the presumption we will play 4231 but strong rumours we might go back to the dreaded 5 a the back and false 9 experiment that brought about our worst results last season. It's a great formation if you have the personnel to pull it off but I don't think we do. When I've seen other sides who have played this formation they appear to fully commit to it and I think that's a must if you want the players to fully buy into the idea. I just don't see it working. I just hope the manager keeps it simple this season and plays players in their best positions instead square pegs in round holes and just to fit in his favourites, if he does this he will find the fans on his back pretty sharpish, me included. Charlton will be a tricky test, no games are easy in the championship, they've lost key players in Bielik and our main defensive target in Bauer to Preston and Joe Aribo to Rangers. With regards to incomings, they don't appear to have added any proven quality to their first 11 so currently it's looking like Bowyer is going to have a real job on his hands to keep them up because they're very much weaker than last seasons side who didn't exactly walk it into the Championship following a late promotion push. Also, their absolute bastard of an owner has neglected the club, openly admitting that he has no real interest in owning them (scumbag), so it doesn't appear likely that they're going to add anymore quality to their ranks either before our game. I know its the first game of the season but this has to be a must win, a draw and a cagey match is most likely but we need to go for it if we have any intentions of doing something this season. The manager can't have the same mentality as he had last season, he frequently referenced Sheff United who had a manager with a very positive and attacking mindset, he needs to adopt the same to push us on this season. Prediction 2 - 1 Rovers (Dack, Graham) and typically we will be hanging on for a win.
  13. With the dingles starting there season at home on Saturday 10th August, it looks like we'll be at home on the opening weekend (3rd August) Also looks like a home game on Boxing Day, away on New Years day, and away on the final day of the season if it falls on the same weekend as last season. Fixtures released next Thursday (20th) at 9am.
  14. The Fa cup 1st round starts this weekend ,many lower non league clubs will be looking to cause some upsets .There's not many bigger ties than Chorley FC v Doncaster Rovers FC ( somehow Bt and BBC chose not to show live coverage?). Top of the league Chorley have sofar won 49 grand in prize money alone gate receipts will make this 60-70 grand. The FA have doubled there prize money this year BBC 2 are showing live highlights of 6 games Sunday including this match ,all 12 teams receive £12,500 If you would like to go and support the Lancashire lads v Yorkshire here's the details Ko 12,45pm Sunday 12£ adults 9£ Concessions 5£ 12-16 years Under 12 free Tickets on sale from club shop from 10am til 5pm everyday * Doncaster sold nearly 1000 sofar so this promises to be a very tasty cup tie atmosphere Ring 01257 230007 for more details
  15. I thought this match deserving of it's own thread. Ordinarily I wouldn't agree but as it's a final and against the Troglodytes then winning becomes all that matters. On paper we should win. We have the quality and experience and stuffing them at anything matters. As of this morning there were less than 600 tickets sold.
  16. The conclusion of our 2018/19 season sees us face Swansea, recently relegated from the Premier League and previously labelled as Swansalona at their prime, which I used to always enjoy. We get cheap tickets, which some people think is a good idea - and others think is an insult to season ticket holders. They really can't please anyone. Rovers have won 4 of their last 5 - Swansea have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1, form which saw a late playoff charge from Swansea, but it wasn't quite enough, making this a total nothing game - apart from the battle of the Lancashire Championship Clubs, with the right result we can overtake PNE and finish top. Rovers are favourites to beat Swansea and the bookies aren't often wrong. No new injury updates for Rovers. We might see some of the kids, this may be the last time we see some of our players. Not sure on the Swansea team news, to be honest i'm not really sure on any of their players, but after a quick google they've got former Rover Matt Grimes, Nathan Dyer who feels like has played football forever and Ollie McBurnie who's very bloody good. My Rovers team below: Canadian Nyambe Lenihan Magloire Bell Buckley Travis Chapman Dack Rothwell Breo Davenport and Butterworth to come off the bench. Then pick any other player who will be leaving at the end of the season to come on late. Smallwood? Bennett? Mulgrew? Rodwell? Tony decides.
  17. At Blueboy's request he would like some proper match threads ... He may have a point! Below is a list of our upcoming fixtures, if you'd like to start the thread for each please shout up. 18. Checked the match thread and nobody has volunteered for this one so here goes. I had vowed never to do a Match preview again after chalking up a 100% record of defeats in games I wrote in anticipation of last season so probably as well I saved my literary endeavours for one that doesn't matter. Not even prize money for places are at stake unless someone can correct me. 1965/6 was the first season I followed Rovers in depth and we had a decent Cup run as well as an abysmal relegation. In the 5th round we drew then 2nd Division Norwich away and got a 2-2 draw before winning the replay at Ewood 3-2 after a fright of being pulled back from an early lead to trailing 1-2 until quite late. Roll forward 15 years and I worked with a pleasant guy at Shell who was a passionate Norwich supporter who told me he had been at the Carrow Road game and had see his first incident of football hooliganism when Rovers supporters pelted a guy dressed as a canary with anything they could get their hands on. So much for football mascots... Back to Saturday night and the late late kick off and a chance for somebody to put themselves in the shop window... perhaps... Leeds are not playing Villa until Sunday and If Sheffield United fail to beat Ipswich at 3pm then Norwich will be playing for both promotion and the title. Party pooping time! Something we did a few times when in the Prem but not recently. Of course Norwich will be on a roll in a packed Carrow Road which can get quite noisy as a smallish stadium extended upwards over the years. So not perfect for blooding youngsters but I hope we will see a repeat of u-23s on the bench while saving the nappy job for Swansea. I see no benefit from not restoring Raya and very much hope travis has recovered to give us an otherwise unchanged outfield line-up from the stroll against Bolton. We have shown we can give all of the teams at the top a headache (even Sheff U away until the sending off) and Norwich had their work cut out at Ewood until the clock struck 80 and the most vulnerable defence to late goals met the most potent late scorers. Norwich have now drawn 4 consecutively and not been commanding in any of their games recently. Of course if we see Mulgrove, Evans and Smallwood together- we will let in at least 4, again. Not a game for Charlie unless we win a late corner. I would particularly like to see Rodwell in midfield under the pressure Norwich will exert. We have seen enough from Rovers to know we can get in amongst the Canaries. I don't expect we will get to or past the 60 point mark with a game to spare but I do expect we will make a decent game of it which is the very least the tv audience and the travelling 600 deserve.
  19. Some people here who have visited the game against Feyenoord in 2006?
  20. Norwich City are promoted to the Premier League after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Carrow Road. Norwich exploded into the match scoring two early goals to take control of the game. Rovers got back into the match after Lewis Travis scored his first professional goal for the club. The loss ends Rovers winning run, and confirms Norwich promotion. 21. Easter Monday sees us lock horns with an old foe from t'other side of Bull Hill. I have to be perfectly honest and admit I don't really care too much for them. Almost certainly this goes back to the 70's when a visit to Burnden Park could be intimidating. I was actually chased back to Trinity Street station by some Bolton fans because we had the temerity to beat them in a crucial Division Three game. For anybody of a certain age Derek Fazackerley scored a late winner. I used to meet him frequently on the football circuit and I always reminded him that he was almost responsible for an early demise for me. Another reason I disliked them was because quite often they used to beat us. Players like Paul Jones, Sam Allardyce, Neil Whatmore, Warwick Rimmer, Peter Nicholson, Barry Siddall, Frank Worthington as the names just roll off my tongue and I was envious. Over the years they have a marginally better record with 70 wins to our 63 with 38 drawn. Hopefully we will seal their relegation on Monday and be able to laugh at them from our lofty, smug mid table security. They have really had a season to forget with late payments to playing and non playing staff, a pre season players strike and more recently players refusing to train with some games only being confirmed at the eleventh hour. At this point I ought to give them some grudging praise that they have taken it to within a few games of the seasons end before relegation is confirmed. There is some real concern about their new owner, Bassini who has bought the club from the snake oil salesman that was Anderson. I can't help thinking that it will be out of the frying pan for them. Their nickname is The Trotters which is quite apt really when you consider some of the Del Boy like characters they have had running them. Sadly Jason Lowe is out for the season but aside from him they still have some experienced players to call upon so whilst I'm not expecting a cakewalk I will be disappointed if we don't win by two clear goals. Hopefully our boss is as true as his word and we see some of the excellent young players who have impressed this season in the under 23's. It would be a good time to blood them. For older supporters John Byrom will probably be the most famous ' played for both teams' player. But from memory these weren't too bad: El Hadj Diouf Alan Ainscow Gordon Taylor The infamous (in Darwen anyway) Mark Patterson Scott Sellars Matt Jansen And Big Sam managed us both. Enjoy the game and the Trotters wallowing in their own misery.
  22. Blackburn Rovers head to Carrow Road looking to upset the party as Norwich City look to seal the deal and get promoted to the Premier League. Rovers come into the match on the back of a sweet 4 game winning run, where as Norwich City come into this on the back of 4 draws. In this video I catch up with Norwich City supporter Harvey Monck and he gives his verdict on Norwich and the players that have stood out for him. We also take a look at the form book and get a prediction from the Cat. 23. Blackburn Rovers made it 4 wins on the spin as they beat local rivals Bolton Wanderers 2-0 at Ewood Park. The story of the day was Ben Brereton scoring his first goal for the club in the 1st half. Rovers had other chances to add to their tally but had to wait to the 2nd half before we made the game safe. The 2nd goal fell to Adam Armstrong who tapped home a scrappy effort which made the points safe. Rovers will head to Carrow next Saturday as they look to be party poopers in Norwich City's promotion push. Rovers did introduce some youngsters in the 2nd half, as they looked to gain some valuable experience for next season. Rovers: Leutwiler, Nyambe, Lenihan (c), D. Williams, Bell, Rodwell (J. Buckley, 65, Travis (Bennett, 46), Armstrong, Dack (Butterworth, 76), Rothwell, Brereton. Unused substitutes: Raya, Graham, Mulgrew, Conway. Goals: Brereton, 30, Armstrong, 50. Bolton Wanderers: Alnwick, Taylor (c), Beevers (Wilson, 11), Donaldson, Ameobi, Noone, Hobbs, Connolly, J. Williams (Murphy, 39), Brockbank (Muscatt, 75), Connell. Unused substitutes: B. Williams, Oztumer, W. Buckley, Magennis. Referee: Andy Woolmer. 24. It will be a Friday, but will it be any good? Rovers sit safe and sound in 15th place, QPR two places below on 48. Whilst mathematically Rangers can still be caught, relegation is unlikely, so a fairly meaningless match in the general scheme of things, but will tinker Tony blood some youngsters? Founded in 1886, Rangers meandered around various grounds in and around White City, they finally settled at Loftus Road. They have had pockets of success, winning the then League Cup in 1967, and finished runners up in the First Division in 1975-6. Head to head we have won 21, drawn 12 and lost 14 against the Hoops. Players common to both clubs in recent times include the beast that was Chris Samba, Junior Hoilett went the other way, current player Ben Gladwin and the Bradley whose name shall never again be associated with our club. Rangers were quite a force in the early/mid 70's, when Gerry Francis was a key player, and later, manager. Owners....don't get me started on owners.....QPR have had their own fair few "issues" with ownership. Chris Wright bought the club in 1996, ploughing £20 million inside the next 5 years. Then F1 glitterati, Bernie the Germanic loving then owner and Flavio Briatore, had a "do", committing another £20 million to cover debt etc. 2007 saw the family of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal purchase a 20% stake in the club. Son-in-law Amit Bhaia made it onto the board. Mittal was reportedly the eighth richest man in the world at the time, and Rangers fans could have been right to think all these wealthy chaps might provide a veritable treasure chest to assist the club to prosper. Unfortunately that didn't transpire, and various debts emerged, and little or no cash invested. Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes (Air Asia) was next to have a punt in 2011, with an investment rumoured to be around £35 million. A loan using the stadium as collateral, paid off other debt, and refinanced new debt. The club continues to be mired in various controversies from the previous owners dealings. Bhatia became chairman of the club in August last year. We beat them at Ewood last November, with a 1-0 win. A double would be nice. QPR average 13,800 or so home crowds this season, so plenty of room to stretch out. Have a lovely Easter away day roaming Rovers, basking in the 25 degree heat...... Here's to 3-points!
  25. Blackburn Rovers take on already relegated Bolton Wanderers in their penultimate home match of the season. Rovers have the comfort in knowing that they cannot go up or cannot go down and will look to make it 4 wins on the spin at Ewood Park. Bolton come into the match after their latest loss to Aston Villa which say them drop to the 3rd tier of english football. Rovers on the other hand come into the match on the back of a 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers. In this video I preview the match, take a look at the form books and see what Cass the Cat has to say about the match.
