  1. Obviously it is difficult to comment on the training that goes on behind closed doors but I think it is abundantly clear from the lack of progress and failure to learn from our mistakes that the coaching at Ewood Park is not up to scratch. I do believe Mowbray is a good man manager but really worry that we aren't going to progress with the current coaching setup. From my understanding Ben Benson is the GK coach and he was promoted from the u18s along with David Lowe who became first team coach? Last year it seemed to be our quality of players at that level that pushed us over the line and never did we have a particular style of play. This year whereby we don't have the best squad in the division and need the coaching and development of a style of play it appears our coaching isn't up to scratch. Just wondering if I am talking rubbish or if people agree that our current backroom staff department is severely under par?
  2. I know we do this periodically, but I thought worth a revive to remind us of better days. What's the best XI you can build out of the Rovers you've seen? I would say ---------------------Friedel ---Berg-----Nelsen----Hendry----Le Saux Bentley----Tugay-----Sherwood----Duff -------------Shearer----Bellamy I've been watching since 1992. I guess what's remarkable is Bentley gets in there ahead of Ripley, but he was truly outstanding when on form. And I went for Belllamy over McCarty, Santa Cruz, Cole, Jansen as he won games single handedly for us in a way you very rarely see. Absolutely unplayable when on song.
  3. I’ve just read on Facebook that he’s signed for our academy after joining from Liverpool. He’s been tagged as the Irish Messi and was at Barca before joining Liverpool. Anyone else heard anything about him joining? He’s still only 15 so definitely one for the future but he was hyped up as some sort of Wonderkid a few years ago.
  4. Am I right in believing that we are in the final year of the deal with Umbro? any whispers of another deal or a new manufacturer? I would like a new brand to be honest to freshen it up a bit, I have always thought an Adidas Rovers shirt would look mint!

  6. How many goals do you think that BB will score this season? We still have 15 matches left and I think that he will be given a proper chance a couple of games before the end of the season if we have nothing left to play for. I think that he might actually score once or twice, if the season is nearly over, the other teams are already thinking about their summer holidays and there is no pressure on him to deliver

  9. Saw this on twitter and thought it'd be a good idea for those not on the platform to be involved with. A place to discuss some opinions you believe to be against the general consensus of our fan base. One of mine is that Bennett is probably our most limited player in the normal match day 18. Passion only gets you so far, and I don't think he does anywhere near enough to justify getting as many starts as he does.

  11. ...want Rovers to lose if it meant Burnley not winning the league? With Everton v Man City as the inspiration, a Sky poll currently says that 59% of fans would want their own team to lose if it meant their greatest rival could potentially miss out on something. How about here? Any thoughts? Has it ever happened to you already? It would be a bit weird going to watch a game live and essentially supporting the opposition.
  12. Where do you personally see the club heading over the next 5, 10 or even 15 years? What do you think the aims and objectives of the club should be moving forward over that timescale? How do you see us achieving those aims, or what strategies should the club adopt to achieve them? Maybe this could be a longer term thread and we can look back in a few years. Discuss............. ??? P.s I understand how hard this can be with the present ownership in charge!
  13. Why did we not sign this proper centre back in january window? Think he was very good When he was here.

  15. Lets get revenge for a game we shouldn't have lost heavily. lets stick to the mantra of ,beat the teams above you and you will not go far wrong.
  16. According to TM 'the recruitment plan is in overdrive' so I thought it deserved a topic of its own. We recruited extremely well during the summer I trust Mowbray will do the same come January but I think the key to it being considered a succes would be if we a re able to keep the big guns off dack and keep him motivated to be a Blackburn Rovers player. I reckon a centre back and a left back so bennet can be utilsed further up the field.

  23. This is not a knee-jerk thread. Anyone who posts that is just being plain lazy... - 1 win in the last 8. - 6 points from 24. - A mini crisis mid-season. - A manager making the same mistakes week in week out and sticking with what has worked in the past. No imagination - even in tough away games. - Players who are playing way below what we believe they are capable of. Players who should be in League One still. Not looking like a team and in fact starting to look jaded with the same League One set up but without the results in the Championship. We are not yet, in the main, talking about Mowbray being sacked. He has goodwill/loyalty credit from last season that is quickly running out. He has taken down once already on this division - whether his fault or not - and “here we go again” may well be in the minds of the players. Can he bring in a striker on loan so that the Brereton experiment can be taken right back to basics (while Nuttall is loaned out)? Can he find a way of balancing a midfield pairing which isn’t solely being deployed to protect a poor defence? Is Lenihan up to it? Is his coaching team running out of new ideas? Is it responding to what is happening on match days and looking at the personnel, formation and attitude/approach to games? Or is it just a case of “working hard in training” and hoping that the results come. What do people feel should be Mowbray’s target for the next 6 games? 10 games? Do we need a change in personnel down at Brockhall? How long does the patience last with Mowbray? Will we accept relegation and give him another go at promotion from League One? (I certainly wouldn’t). When does concern become a need for a change of manager? Rodwell has come in after being made a scapegoat at a freefalling Sunderland? They changed manager and things didn’t change. Do we need to get someone like Coleman in here and bomb Rodwell out of the club before we reach the same stage? (Leopards don’t usually change their spots - although he was harshly treated, his attitude was still very selfish - and non-team focussed. This kind of thing filters between clubs and there will be people wary of him, I’m sure. The team spirit that was such a feature of Mowbray’s team appears to have faded during the time he has been here. Coincidence?) Anyway, here we are. What do we change and when?
  24. Just watched the second episode of “Sunderland til I Die” (I’m a bit behind - sorry @Bigdoggsteel) and it’s quite fascinating. It included an interesting exchange between Chief Exec, Martin Bain, and the Youth Academy Manager, Jimmy Sinclair. The discussion was around the value of players on and off the field and came in the wake of huge net losses on player transfers. Sinclair is making a proposal: “....the club’s last 40 signings only three have yielded a profit for the club. So what I’m suggesting or advocating is that - and this might sound fanciful - 75% of the first-team pool should be under 25. That would leave a manager with the potential to play six players in his starting 11 who are older than 25. So any manager can’t say you’re asking me to win the league with kids. They become assets; we are testing our best young talents rather than playing with players that will get us better results but no end product for the club I think the only question marks you would have would be if they can make the challenge without embarrassing us too much. I think it would be healthier for the club, healthier for the young players and cheaper.” This is an interesting peek into the pressures of delivering player value, something which the Ben Brereton thread is nudging as a theme but I feel deserves seperate discussion. It’s hardly a stretch to think that similar discussions have been, and continue to be, had at Rovers and that much of our problems are down to the need to manage the return on investment of players vs buying players who can make an impact now. I think it is a very dangerous game to bring in too many youngsters and Sinclair’s suggestion of 75% is too many. 25% would be better. However, looking at Rovers current squad, 13 out of 22 are under 25, or 60%. Is this a big reason for our lack of prospects and is Mowbray going to struggle for a couple of seasons - assuming we aren’t relegated first? Secondly, if we are to realise the value of buying and developing young players then they need to be sold around 25 or 26 years old or earlier if necessary. Dack would likely be a player who will go first (stating the bleeding obvious). Here is our squad / ages:
