Alan75 Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 The slim dream of European football at Ewood next season, was quickly dispelled as Rovers capitulated 3-1 to Liverpool this afternoon. After a goal less first half, Gerrard banged in Liverpool’s first goal of the afternoon on the hour mark, when Santa Cruz gave the ball away allowing Gerrard and Lucas to exchange passes before Gerrard beat Samba in the Rovers defence to set Liverpool up for a home win. With Rovers defence playing below par, Liverpool increased their lead within 15 minutes when Torres headed home Gerrard’s cross to make it 2-0 and on 90 minutes substitute Voronin made it 3-0 when he converted Riise's cross from close range. If there was any consolation, Santa Cruz pulled one back for Rovers before the final whistle. If Rovers have any chance of an Intertoto qualification for Europe, they will have to be on top form when they meet Manchester United next week and hope that over quaifying teams have end of season disasterous finishes.
