    Summary

Evans came from a wealthy background. His father George was a timber merchant who made enough money to be able to buy the Failsworth Lodge in Failsworth. Lorenzo attended Manchester Grammar for three years before he moved to Preston to continue his studies but played his football in St Annes. He was spotted by the Rovers and brought to Ewood to play in the Lancashire Combination side. Fir his second game he received a surprise call to first team action when Hurst failed to arrive on time having got married in the morning. Unfortunately his afternoon turned into frustration. His wing partner would not pass to him and although he claimed the goal scored it was credited to Jackson instead. The club apparently took note of the events in the game because his St Annes' wing partner Openshaw was signed to play with him in the reserves. He was offered professional terms but he was unwilling to give up his work as an architect and left for Glossop who were happy to let him retain his amateur status. After a season he returned to play for Blackpool where he  partnered  Jubbie Hardman. As a left wing pair they were outstanding with Evans providing raking centre from the touchline. When they were switched to the right Evans played inside and was less effective. A fine cricketer, he played many years for St Annes and led them to Alhambra Shield success. In 1900 he topped the league averages with 36.28 and a top score of 101.
