    Summary

Dobing was the son of George Dobing who played wing three quarter for the Salford rugby league team and his brother was a goalkeeper with Chester. Spotted playing at school in Nantwich, he was brought to Ewood and emerged as one of the club's most promising prospects who made his league debut at the age of seventeen. A punchy, pacey inside forward who could shoot with venom, particularly cutting in from the right hand side he was also a complete player who could play as an out and out centre forward if required. A regular under 23 international, apparently being groomed for England it remains a mystery why he never fully blossomed. Sold to Manchester City because the club found him a difficult character to handle he prospered and at Stoke had a ten year career in which as he grew slower he moved deeper to provide know how and panache. Once on the Lancashire ground staff he could possibly have made the grade as a leg spinner. When he retired he lived in Swynnerton and developed a business selling crockery to hotel chains.
