    Summary

The son of Isaac Booth, a clerical worker from Audenshaw he started work as an apprentice hat maker. By the age of 16 he was a professional footballer and proved his financial acumen by negotiating a contract with the Rovers that staggered them. They still obtained a bargain because he proved to be a fine, constructive player whose international recognition prompted Everton to pay a huge fee for his services. They in turn obtained a quality player who gave them great service. An expert billiard player he had a lucrative side-line wagering on his ability with the cue. In 1927 he reached the first round of the English Championship. He was also a considerable bowls player and in October 1932 won the prestigious Waterloo Cup.
