After many months of planning, which started before anyone at Ewood had even heard of the VH Group, Blackburn Rovers Supporters Trust was officially created on Wednesday, 11 May 2011. At a public meeting in Blakey's Cafe Bar in Blackburn town centre last week, fans voted unanimously in favour of the proposal put forward by acting chairman Duncan Miller alongside speeches from Jacqui Forster from Supporters Direct and the chairman of the Newcastle United Supporters Trust. The public meeting has been much the focus of the working group's discussions and plans so far, as that was the first hurdle in the long process involved in becoming a fully operational trust, but there is still a lot of work to be done behind the scenes. The Trust now has to be approved by the Financial Services Authority and a host of other things have to be ironed out before an official launch party in the coming months, when people will be able to join the Trust. A few months after this will be an election to decide who will form the official committee. The point of BRST is to give fans a voice. The fans are the mainstay of Blackburn Rovers Football Club and its essential reason for existence, so we believe we should have a say on issues surrounding the club. Such issues do not include things like team selection and who the club should look to sign in the transfer market, but the things that affect the fans' overall experience of being a Rovers fan. The aim, ambitious as it may seem, is to one day have an elected representative sitting on the board at Ewood.
