Not sure what folk are expecting to happen.

Funding will be approved, and we'll limp on like this forever.

How can you possibly know that it will be approved?

The fact it has to go in front of a court in India surely makes it uncertain by definition.

Certainly a non zero chance it gets rejected on the basis the club has received funds in respect of the Adam Wharton deal...

  2. To see the best of Markanday, I think we'd have to play him in the #10 role.

Unfortunately, not sure he'll ever get that chance.

He's too slow and lightweight out wide when marked specifically by a full back. But when he finds space, he has good technical ability and a great strike on him.

It's a shame he didn't get the chance (for whatever reason) to showcase his ability when on loan in Scotland.

I don’t understand how losing Ennis ,Wharton and Travis plus our manager and bringing in kids on loan and old age crocks plus relatively inexperienced manager who doesn’t know the players and said in his own words we don’t have much time on the training field due to the amount of games puts us in an UNDOUBTEDLY better position.

I should have been clearer, I in no way believe the transfer window was a success, it was the complete opposite.

I meant compared to a week ago, as Jimmy says below!

I can understand what Jones Rover is saying. Without doubt, 6 weeks ago the squad was in a better place. IMO it was a shameful window, topped off by losing AW and never replacing him.

BUT, we are in a better position than we were a week ago. JDTs job was untenable (as I said the night the McGuire transfer fell through), and we couldn’t have limped on with a head coach who simply had lost his spirit and with it I think his ability to turn around this awful run.

Now perhaps we can have some semblance of a fresh start, in the dressing room and on the pitch at least. I’ve a feeling Eustace will be more pragmatic, take us back to basics and number 1 priority, stop conceding goals. He’s a relative unknown from a head coach point of view, but he knows the league and importantly, he knows what the bottom half of the league looks and feels like. I’m more confident of avoiding relegation than I was 48 hours ago.

The club is a mess, the save/send fiasco stinks of sabotage, the AW money will never be seen again and the Indian court issue looms large in the background. But from purely a football point of view, I think we’ve given ourselves a fighting chance.

JDT leaves with my thanks and a huge amount of respect. A good man and a decent coach sadly fallen victim to this charade of football club.

  4. Whilst the club is undoubtedly now in a better position to do well in the short term on the field, I can't help but feel disappointed with the way things have turned out.

Desperately disappointed at the way things ended with JDT, he was a massive breath of fresh air, even till the bitter end when he had his legs taken away from beneath him in multiple transfer windows.

Fans should rightly get behind the new manager, who on the face of it is a solid appointment, but can't help but feel that the real winners this week are Waggott and Venkys. They have potentially escaped a cauldron of emotion being poured their way if JDT had been the manager this weekend.

The statement from JDT says it all really. And clearly GB must be frustrated to a large extent as well - fairly classy message he sent to JDT I thought. Whilst not faultless, I feel he is at least trying his very best to move us forwards, despite also being handcuffed.

Can someone explain the difference between the two?

Cheston does the plus column and Hasan does the minus column?

Same with head coach and director of football: two people doing the job of one

And the club is supposed to be short of money

It is usual, even for much smaller companies, to have both a Finance Director and a Financial Controller / Finance Manager / Head of Finance.

The Financial Controller (or equivalent) deals with day to day finance and will be in charge of the finance team who record and post all transactions etc. The Finance Director will be more strategic and typically wouldn't get involved in the day to day transactional side of things.

What happens on the 12th March when the next hearing is due if the Indian Courts say 'no' to the money being sent over and the next transfer window is 12 weeks away?

Interestingly, the next set of accounts are due by 31 March 2024.

Even though these will cover the 12 months to 30 June 2023, in relation to the going concern of the club, both the directors and auditors have to be happy to sign of for a period of 12 months from the date of approval.

So if the Indian courts say anything other than "yes" by the end of March, things will be very very interesting in those accounts...

With a win we're eight points behind Coventry with 51 points still to be played for. Can't rule out anything both ways, but going all out now doesn't make sense, I agree.

Selling Adam on the final day doesn't make sense either, don't understand why we're rushing the deal with him being on a long contract and with the money not going to be spent now anyway.

Agree with all of the above.

I think the answer re selling Adam now making no sense has to be to do with the fact the hearing in India hasn't happened...

This might be the only way to guarantee the club doesn't end up with cashflow issues. Which is worrying because it means there might be no funds left to reinvest come summer

Maybe, maybe not. But it didn't benefit them to give him to us permanently now, but does benefit us, so if they were sensible they'd have insisted on a token fee. I mean surely it's worth 50k to us to free up a loan spot if we think we might want to name more than 5 loanees on a matchday. Unless there's some special exemption for precontracts to take effect immediately if the player's registration has been suspended due to the Ukraine war.

I think the point is that we can't send any funds to Russia at present!

  8. With the Raya money coming in over the summer, I would like to think we won't be as desperate to cash in on Adam Wharton at present.

Then if we are able to do some good business over the summer (Striker, proper winger and keeper) I'd like to think we would be getting into the playoffs, IF we keep Adam Wharton and keep key players fit (we haven't managed that at all this year).

A lot of ifs there, but hopefully there isn't massive pressure to sell Wharton at present, he's only going to improve, is tied down to a long contract and is unusual in that he is a rovers fan, rather than just keen to move on ASAP (like Phillips).

  9. Tough call, especially if Palace come back with a improved offer. Maybe it could come down to whether Wharton fancies the move himself or the situation re the Venkys investigation and how desperately we need the cash.

Though hopefully we are in a position to stand firm, especially given the long contract we have him under.

Would love for us to get our act together and have a real go next season with Wharton at the heart of the side. Surely he is only going to get better with more experience and be worth more in future...

The loan back will put many off if they are paying that kind of money.

May well depend on the club in question.

Would be beneficial for Adam to stay here and play week in week out - but Palace have injury problems and would want him immediately.

Either way, good to see we are standing our ground at the moment!

he might start regularly but he`s never going to win anything, never going to play european football and if palace have one bad summer in the transfer market will be fighting a relegation battle, especially if eze and olise get sold in the summer,i should have put better club rather than bigger tbh,it would be a bad move for him

What would then stop him making a move to a bigger club, having played in the Premier League already?

You think he'd be better sat on the bench (or worse not even that) at a bigger club?

on adam wharton,15 million is a fair price but he can do better than crystal palace, every chance he could find himself back in the championship in the next few seasons,he`s probably better off staying here and waiting for a big club to bite,if you want to be a 16th place  basher for the rest of your career then palace is the place to go

I don't think we should sell Adam now. However...

I disagree with Palace being a bad move for him. He would play for them, potentially even this season due to their injury problems. Would he do that at a big side?

Also, selling to Palace might be beneficial to Rovers if we get a sell on clause, because Palace could just be a stepping stone for Adam, rather than an end goal destination.

What sort of team did we have out yesterday ? It can’t have been much of a side with the first team/squad playing in London yesterday.

Blackburn Rovers: Michalski, Duru, Batty, Gamble, Montgomery, Wood, Weston, Leonard, Edmondson, Davis, Powell

Substitutes: Olson, Caddick, Stritch, Nsangou, Khan
